The Sombrero is a variation based on the Reversed Cross Body Turn from the 6 Turn Pattern System.
The only thing that changes from a standard Reversed Cross Body Turn is the hand position at the beginning of the turn. By holding both hands (starting with right hand up) during the turn it will enable the leader to bring his right hand over her hand and his left arm (or her left arm) over his head while stepping forward.
Combining the move with a Cross Body Turn from the Salsa Beginners 2 Level you can easily go into a Shouldercheck.
Look voor more information at salsaventura.tv/
Within our 6 Turn Pattern system this turn pattern belongs to the Beginners 3 Level.
As you will notice the lady makes her turn (initiated by the leader) on the right side of the men turning clockwise (to her right).
Ladies: Please be sure to travel to the other side. On count 6 your right leg is supposed to go behind your left leg. If this does not happen you will notice you are not traveling.
Men: Please be sure to step BACK after the Cross Body Lead. This might take a while before this becomes comfortable since most men step forward after making the Cross Body Lead.

Just watching Sombrero With Shoulder Check again, after a year of no dancing, apart from solo practice at home. You're like a smooth well oiled machine and make it look so easy. When I've tried it on the dancefloor, it was a lot jerkier, but I'm hoping this video, with its excellent verbal explanation and visual demonstration, will enable me to get it right for when the dancefloors reopen- one day!💃🕺🙂

Didn't realise how useful and important shines are until I made an effort today to learn Box Step/3 Slides and Shuffle Step. I used to look at them and think they were too difficult and not for me. But the excellent clear verbal and physical demonstration on the videos has enabled me to learn these two shines. Now I'm looking forward to testing them out on the dancefloor! Thank you Salsaventura for expanding my repertoire!

For future videos, it would be 100x better if you first showed everyone how to do it the correct way. Then when you repeat the process, show them the many common mistakes you have seen your students make. Thanks for all of your videos, I enjoy watching you guys dance!

Hi, yes, that is the approach we use from Intermediate 1 upward. For Beginners 1,2 and 3 we start from the top with the explanation. Otherwise most beginners will start doing patterns without any explanation. This is mostly out of impatience.
