was planning on making beads by rolling paper / card and sticking. Salt dough should be much simpler. I find experimenting with the microwave gives quicker results to harden salt dough, can produce a number of beads in a few minutes instead of waiting 24 / 48 hours. But its all about the experimentation with time. Start with 10 seconds, check and rotate the beads, then another 10 seconds. Doesn't take long :) Happy crafting

So true. I also plane on trying to make some beads with salt dough mixed with paper mache. I found that covering parts of the paper mache give it a different look and texture when dried in the oven. Let me know how your beads come out.

Thank you for creating and sharing this video. I got a bit confused toward the ending. Please tell me about the drying process for the hard salt dough. Is it aired dried. Is it oven dried? Do you do both kinds of drying one right behind the other? You guidance is greatly appreciated.
@BrambleReid Жыл бұрын
I did both, air dry and oven dry. Air dry takes about one to two weeks, depending on how thick the beads are. Oven dry takes about 8hrs or one day. If you oven dry to avoid cracks start at a low heat.

Not sure if I saw it’s at worlds markets store… but I’m sure there’s much be other stores. Maybe this kind of salt will work. Or you can go over your own salt by rolling it’s with a small wood stick, or something to make it’s more thin the salt.

They are light weight. If you need them heavier you can add rocks and cover them. Try two ways. Cover some rocks with tin foil, then add the salt dough over it. Or just use small rocks without tin foil.

Hi White flour means wheat flour or rice flour?
@BrambleReid2 жыл бұрын
You can use any flour. Plain white flour will give you a solid white colour, perfect for adding colour to. Wheat flour will give you brown flecks, and corn flour will be transparent with the yellow corn flecks. I would recommend making some small baches to see which one you like best.

@@ark194 I dried my beads two ways. One baked it in the over. I found that if the beads dry too quickly they generally cracked, the water was evaporating too fast. I reduced the heat in the oven which helped. When I air dried them, I keeped them near our back door, there was no cracks. When testing I did have some cracks, so I controlled how much water I used, and made them thick and tight when I was rolling the beads.

Hey mam , I've tried the recipe several times , the dough comes out fine but since I don't have oven , i have to air dry it .. so the problem is that the dough never dries completely , i mean sometimes it gets mouldy or sometimes the outer layer of my clay object is dried but not the inner .. so , how can i fix this problem ?
@BrambleReid3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay, my phone was not working.. I just got a new one and seeing messages now. You should be able to sun dry it. Make sure you make the thicker dough not the soft one this means that when you pit the stick through the dough it should be firm not sagging. You can let it dry by the window or out side. If you are air drying it give it a towel or two.
