I don't think Ollie loved Felix. I think he idolized him. I think he was infatuated and obsessed with him. I think he wanted to _be_ him. I think he loved the riches, the vanity, the hedonism, the debauchery, the status. But I don't think he ever actually loved him.

The lunch scene right after Felix’s death is so well done, especially when you consider that each character at the table represent the 5 stages of grief. Elsebeth is Denial, Sir James is Anger, Farleigh is Bargaining, Venetia is Depression, and Oliver is Acceptance. Amazing film.

So my understanding is that Oliver did have a genuine interest in Felix. He also wanted to worm his way into their family for the money. He was content to worm his way in by manipulation, seduction, and charm, but once Felix found out he was lying about his family, he had "no choice" (he did- he could have walked away) but to murder them and take their money that way. I think that's why even though he wanted in, he seems greatly saddened after Felix dies (even if it was his fault). He was willing to destroy their family still though to get the life he wanted.

Bryce's frozen uncomfortable look during the entire grave scene is everything. It says I'm trying to keep a neutral face because I'm on camera, but I am dying inside. lol Fun fact - I read that the final dance scene wasn't in the original script. Oliver was originally supposed to walk through the house then crawl into bad, satisfied. But Barry Keoghan talked to the director and felt like it needed something more than that and they came up with the naked dancing instead. It is like you said, his 'victory dance' after securing Saltburn for himself. And let's face it, we've all danced through the house naked when we're home alone. It felt like a much more appropriate ending.

There’s so much to be said about this movie. I don’t think it’s just for shocking people, all the crazy scenes actually have a lot of meaning to them. Oliver wants so badly to be “old money” but that’s literally impossible for him to achieve since he wasn’t born into it. So this is the shit he does to get as close as he can to what the family represents to him. Like an “I’ll consume you to become you” kind of thing.

He wanted it all at any cost..... it's uncomfortable, weird, sick, fascinating, sad, funny and extremely entertaining. Most people who see it love it and find a weird feeling of empathy for Oliver in the end...... I think that was the mission.

@nxyla123 I would never cheer someone on that did anything even close to this...... my point is I felt sorry for him because he was so broken and had such mental illness and you wonder how someone this young and intelligent could be so sick and what did he experience in his life that encouraged his behavior. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be his friend. But he is just a character in a movie and for this particular situation I found him fascinating of course because of the brilliant acting.

I think Felix was aware of Oliver’s attraction to him and Oliver was watching him but didn’t say anything because he likes the attention he was getting and was used to being desired. For example the bathroom on Oliver’s Side is “ accidentally “ open and his loud moaning implies that he knew that Oliver was watching. Then the fact that Felix got upset when he got with Venitia and the fact that the door was locked a f the mirror was fixed after he got with Farliegh. Also when Oliver asked if he could still be friends and Felix said “ No you lied Oliver and upon other things.” Implying that Felix probably knows all of the weird things that Oliver was doing but just didn’t acknowledge it until Felix was not the person he thought he was.

It's over a decade before Oliver goes back to Saltburn - you see covid masks in the background. I loved this film - can't get it out of my mind- gorgeous cinematography, the acting is top notch, wild twists. As far as the notorious scenes - it is WAY tamer than many movies- other than the final dance, the only nudity is Venetia's butt in he field and a silhouette moment at the grave. No explicit sex- the only "sex" scenes are Farleigh/Oliver, Felix in the maze, and the vampire moment - and we don't actually see any body parts in ANY of them. No explicit violence, very little language. But it gets an R rating for what it does to people's imagination. :) For all of the characters people are... disposable.

"Lucky for you im a vampire" has a double meaning. You have to invite a vampire in your house before he can kill you and your family.

Did you notice the composition of the shots? From the camera’s view everyone is tall looking down on him and he’s looking up to everyone, unless he is about to dominate them. Then he’s on top looking down at them. Even the shot of him blowing out the birthday cake candles. He is so small at the head of the table and everyone else are like pillars around him and his reflection in the table has his image messed up and spreading from his smallness at the cake to sprawling larger down the table, as he is plotting how to get Saltburn. This kind of class warfare are all over this film. I loved your reactions!! It was so funny to watch how uncomfortable you got… and right in the middle… these knowing looks, just waiting for the reactions.

15:00 great example of the truth being the worst thing you can say. Felix is literally indifferent to her, so no, he won't be jealous at all...but was Oliver a 'good guy' for telling her the truth that is terrible, or would the wrong-right thing have been to LIE to her, feed her ego, say oh yeah he'll be SO jealous, and manipulate her into sleeping with him? Interesting questions, no good or correct answer. He SHOULD have played it as "He's a piece of shit, what do you even care about him? WE'RE together right now, forget about him or anyone else, I AM".

Farleigh was kicked out for doing lines cause the whole reason he’s living off his aunt and her husband is cause his mom is a drug addict. At least that’s what I guessed.

They kicked him out because they think he (unintentionally) caused Felix's death. Oliver put a bunch of cocaine in the alcohol so that Felix would essentially OD.

I wasn't sure what to make of this movie after watching it but it sure was intriguing and unlike anything I've seen before, kind of draws you in. (And Barry Keoghan was some great casting!) Interesting to see what Emerald Fennel does next!

For another psychological rollercoaster I recommend Nocturnal Animals! Disturbing, but thought provoking and totally unlike Saltnurn in plot. Jake Gyllenhaal, Any Adams, Aaron Taylor Johnson, it has a great cast!

hahahah love the reactions! great movie to watch with friends :) I will try next : hahahahah I feel that although Felix is seen as a good friend, he is actually egocentric, his life and family show the way he is. Felix usually has friends who are on a lower social scale than him and in some way he wants to show himself as their savior, that is, he wants to show himself to society as a kind, humble person to be admired and recognized for everything. A scene that could confirm this is when Oliver and Felix are in the room at the U and Oliver begins to tell him how disorganized Felix's room is, he gets upset and kicks him out basically because he has shown him a side of himself that does not feed his ego. Likewise, his family is not interested in the beneficial actions and their great impact, but rather in the positive appearances that they bring. Likewise, Oliver, another egocentric person who, on the contrary, appears to be shy and quiet, comes to Saltburn and adapts his internal ego and externalizes it to the point of not wanting to leave Saltburn even if he has to go over Felix. The hurtful words spoken to Oliver in Saltburn, a luxurious place more worthy of his ego, affect him in a deeper way than at the U. And that's why he kills everyone hahahaha Okay no but I loved the movie, Barry right in the heart and I loved your reactions guys as always :3
