Salton Sea Indio Can we still fish for Tilapia Visit the Coachella Canal. After a long time we visited the Salton Sea Indio California to see what's going on the LAKE. Unfortunately the Lake has been drying up for years coz there no plan of development in place yet. This is one of the 5 largest man made lake here in California.

A couple things.. first, the Salton is dead. Second, multiple hook rigs are not needed in the Valle. Third, standing back from the water and casting will get you more fish, if the fish can't see you, you will catch MANY more. Fourth, use as little weight as you can possibly get away with, and fish where fast and slow water meet.. I have caught many many fish from the canal system, many thousands.. trust me or not

Are there any Tilapia left in the Salton Sea? I remember being able to catch limits of 10-15lb corvina close to shore, and even a few from shore, well into the late 90s. As late as the early 2000s I could catch croaker on just a bare shiny gold hook with nearly every cast. Even an occasional sargo(very rare). Tilapia were of course everywhere. Now even the Tilapia are having a hard time existing. I've caught striper, catfish and even a carp from the canals near "the sea" but oddly enough I've never caught a bluegill in there

Not anymore coz water is not beeing pump anymore on the lake. Fsih and game told me that far on the south side may still have tilapia but I havent been there.

Good old days….early in the morning and you had to buy those little live fish from the shops for $1 a pice

Bro, go into Brawley. Pick any canal and you’ll catch some big boys. Also weist lake is a good spot for catching bluegill as bait.

Go south to the imperial Valley lots of canals out there you can catch bluegill channel cat flathead largemouth and smallmouth bass striper tilapia and carp

One of the fish you got was a Blue Gill sunfish, not a Tiliapia. Which is interesting for that area.

what sort of fish do you catch in there ? im assuming thats water thats redirected from a river

You catch tilapia , corvina, croaker before. Now there no more water supply on this Lake. It start to dry up. Yes from Alamo Rivers and agricultural runoff.

If there's so few of these fish here, you shouldn't be taking them. Especially when they're this small. Catch and release so they can get their numbers up.

Yes you're right..they were 2 small trout and gills were damage during the retrieve.....
