Re: Tandem Kayak. I have a Jackson Big Tuna. It is convertible from tandem to solo and is well equipped to fish. We fish in a face to face configuration. It lets us see what one another is doing AND it's great for conversation and if I need to help him with his line, etc. When I'm out solo... the whole front of the boat is great storage. Only down side is that it is a little heavier than a solo kayak.

I use different leader sizes inshore fishing, 20 to 80lbs. The leader varies depending on the rod and reel I’m using. On a 3000 size reel I use 20lbs leaders, 5000 size I use 20 to 40lbs leader, and larger reels I go up from there. I usually use mono leaders, no matter what the conditions are. If the fish are active they don’t seem to care about the leader size. Last November I took some time off and fished everyday for a week with my 8’ rod, 4500 BG, 30lbs braid main line with a 60lbs mono leader. I caught catfish, whiting, Spanish Mack’s, hard tails, a king Mack, 5 slot red’s, a nice bull red, and some school masters on the same setup. I was fishing with lures and live bait and all I ever changed was the hook and sinker. The water I caught the reds in was super clear 20 + feet. I was snorkeling in that same spot before I fished it. Really the only time the water was dirty was when I caught the catfish.

Great video guys. Man, reels can get very expensive. Im on a budget and cant afford a concept reel. Your right about rods and reels, I rather invest in great rods and buy the saltwater approved castking reels. They are affordable and good reels for their price point.

Number one thing to bring on a kayak is WATER, WATER, WATER. I have gotten dehydrated a few times because I only brought 1 or 2 bottles of water with me. At least bring a gallon. Especially here in Texas where temps can get in the high 90s to low 100s by mid day.

I inherited a number of rods and have experimented with braided line and found certain rods cast further with the same line. The flexibility of the rod seems to make a huge difference in casting distance. Can you advise how to know what flex to chose when buying a rod since your in a store not on open water. ?

I was planning on fishing a series of docks in the Indian river in Sebastian on Monday morning. My plan was to wade close to shore and just walk from dock targeting snook, redfish and trout with top water during twilight and then switching to small paddle tails once the sun comes up. But now this cold front showed up and it's raining heavily. Do you think I'll be good with my plan, or should I change something? I heard it's suppose to get cold with this cold front and rain, like in the 40's!

I have a 25 year old "Old Town" Loon kayak. It has served me well, but despite rigging up pontoons (home grown build) I tried standing in the kayak and it was pretty tippy. How do you choose a kayak for fishing. Are the pedal propelled kayaks superior to paddling. What is the most stable and have the most utility. ?

There unfortunately isn't a one size fits all answer to a question like that... the answer is dependent on the user. Factors like balance, paddling ability, weight, etc. all come into play. Best thing to do is to find a kayak shop that allows you to demo their yaks to see which one feels most comfortable.

Yes. We recommend matching the line strength that you're using to be within the range of what is displayed on the rod.

What is the best way to catch redfish if you don't have boat?
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
If in the intercoastal, then wade fishing is hard to beat... redfish often hold in shallow water, so a pair of wading boots can get you in front of a ton of reds. If you don't like to wade, then passes like Sebastian Inlet are home to many reds throughout the year. Hope that helps. Here's a post that shows some shortcuts to finding redfish via land or water: www.saltstrong.com/articles/how-to-catch-redfish-fishing-tips/

In my case, being over 40 I could not read the phone with polarized lenses. I would need my reading glasses. Also in bright weather phones screens can be difficult to see by anyone. I also totally agree, do not try to fish from a tandem unless you are just dropping baits. Casting from a tandem with another fisherman is asking for trouble.

Wow, I really don't like to criticize people making videos but I just have to correct something said here that is VERY wrong. I have been a avid fisherman for 30 years and have fished inshore, offshore, all types of freshwater, salmon, you name it. I can promise you the most important piece of fishing gear is the reel. And it's not even close. Any avid/long time fisherman will tell you there is a huge difference in a $75 reel and a $200 reel. HUGE. Cheap reels DO NOT last long in salt water. Cheaper rods are pretty good these days though. Most $75 rods are pretty decent. Pretty much every $75 saltwater reel is garbage. Never once had a rod fail when catching a fish but have had reel failures that stopped me from bringing some fish in. This is basic fishing knowledge if you fish enough. One more tip, anyone telling you that Pfleuger is their favorite reel, stop listening. Sorry guys, just wanted to get some facts out there. My intent was not to slam the makers of this video.

@Saltstrong

No. The date behind the benefits of fluoro that I had read did not hold true to the actual tests that I have done on fluoro since then. I'm not now saying that fluoro is bad line... just saying that it's not nearly as good as the hype behind it and it's not worth the extra cost from what I've seen in the testing so far.
