Whaler's hull construction method is known as unibond foam core injection molding. The two halves of the hull are bonded together with fiberglass resin and woven fiber. The entire hull is compressed and locked in the mold while being injected with foam. My father was a production engineer for Whaler from 1968 to 1992 when the company was in Massachusetts.

Nice add....The expert forgets to mention that the foam they use today is a so called closed cell foam. This means the foam won't suck up any water when exposed. If you buy a second hand (classic) Whaler it's a different story altogether. In the old days, the type of foam used was open cell foam which is like a sponge when exposed to water. Many of those boats rotted out on the inside. When buying one, you must be on the lookout for soggy bottoms, a boat that's lying deeper in the water because of the added weight of the water ingress. Leave those boats alone because the structural integrity and buoyancy is compromised. All the marine plywood used to reinforce the Whalers in those days will rott from the inside, so the transom is compromised as well. It may be a good idea to weigh the boat before buying it. But, you can never be sure if you don't take it apart, remove the old foam and completely restore/refoam the boat....

Back in the early 1990's a totally destroyed 25' Boston Whaler Outrage was towed into Lauderdale Marina and hauled out.. I started talking to a guy that was taking photos of it.. he told me he and, and his friend had been on the boat that night when it was broadside by a freighter 25 miles offshore. That they dove off the boat seconds before impact and after the freighter disappeared into the distance they climbed back on the still floating boat..managed to hookup their VHF and call the coast guard..

I own a 25 Boston Whaler Guardian and let me tell you, that boat is a beast! 10 foot swells is nothing.

I used to have a 11 sport, my buddy stepped on the back corner from another boat and swamped it. I hit the throttle full and got up on plane, pulled the plug and all the water was sucked out. My buddy was impressed. 20hp evinrude. Only casualties was my smokes.

The steering cable of my whaler broke once, in full sent. Made a 90 degrees turn in a split second with 60km/h…. We were swimming, but the whaler never even budged. Took about 150 liters of water in the boat, but because of the design the water is gone before you know and the whaler is ready to go again. Didn’t even had to use the bilge pump.😊

this built is suoer durable but there is no way to properly relpace wires and any boat related conveniences. super difficult to even run a nav light wire lolll even in the smaller whalers lol

I own a 2018 17 foot Montauk! I killed the battery cause I left the battery on! boat filled with water outboard still way above water! Got a little wet threw a new battery in and she came right up in 10 mins!!
