The problem with the “sinners prayer” is the false assertion that you can “accept Christ”. “I have excepted Christ into my heart“ Where is this in scripture?… This is a false damning gospel and here’s why. In all of scripture, there is no assertion that salvation is predicated upon YOUR permission. Salvation is causality through conviction under the weight of sin. It’s realization. It’s an epiphany of truth. It is not an intellectual decision by which you decide you want God. It’s a realization that without God, you die. It’s desperation under conviction. It’s a request, begging God to save you. It is not you giving God permission for God to do anything, nor is there any scripture whatsoever, demonstrating such an action. What is his name, and what is his son's name?-if you know! John 3:13 NET [13] No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven-the Son of Man. John 3v5-15 is Jesus quoting Proverbs 30v4 about how to be born again using the analogy of water and wind in relation to that verse. Only God has the power over these things, same as being born again. He is also telling Nicodemus who He is. Nobody controls their birth; it is by the will and action of someones father that they exist... the same is true with the spiritual birth. You cannot make Christ your Lord and savior by anything you DO. Christ IS Lord, whether you acknowledge him as Lord or not, and he is the savior to ALL who BELIEVE, not to all who repent of their sins and ask him into their life. david glessman Repentance is running back and turning back to God. Sin is dangerous, but God doesn't condemn you because you have sin. In Christ there is no condemnation. Have you read the story of the prodigal son ? The son ran away and spend all his money, and when he came home. The Father was so happy and call for a party. Was the father angry at him ? Did the father warn him or scolded him? His Father was more excited than the son, even when the son ask for forgiveness, The Father ask the servants to prepare food. The Father also didn't say anything bad about his son. There will be more joy for a sinner who repents then the 99 who needs no repentance. The wedges of sin is death. Romans 6:23. Sin is dangerous but that doesn't mean God will stop loving you. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. God wants you to turn back to him because He loves you not because he is angry. The devil will just say the opposite, God is not going to listen to you, God is mad at you. You need to clearly know what repentance is all about. In Christ, we are to live a victorious live over sin not just asking for forgiveness and go back to our same way old way. Your sins has already been forgiven. As a believer, you are a child of God. A child and the father are in a family but the devil wants to separate this. Perfect love drives out fear. Believer in Christ are to live a life relying on God to lead you. You can only overcome sin when God is on your side. If you keep on trying to go to God and be right on your own doing, you will get tired and frustrated when things doesn't work out. Hi Ephraim, well said. Also well said David. I would add God WILL condemn if you try to hold on to your sin. Sin IS dangerous if you try to hold on to it. It isn't how much sin we have committed, but how little sin we desire in light of God's mercy. It is all about the heart, as it ever has been for our Lord. If you repent and truly want to put sin away, then God of course will hear your prayer for rescue, if the object of your prayer is Jesus Christ alone. But to say the prayer without your heart being humbled and contrite and convicted before our Holy God is not going to do it. Too many preachers ask people 'to just say this simple prayer' without dealing with the sin part of it first. Yes Ephraim -- God loves all of us with an amazing love and no one is beyond that love -- just look at the life of John Newton, as an example. But also remember Romans 8:1 in its entirety, 'There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit' (KJV). The 'no condemnation' comes AFTER you have been born again. When a murderer is found guilty and is in front of the Judge, he is condemned. It is only the grace of the judge that waives the sentence. God has found us all guilty. Romans 3:23. The penalty is laid out. Romans 6:23. But God, in His grace, waives the sentence IF we accept what Jesus did for us on the cross. As far as the 'born again' Christian, I agree. Too many of us are struggling with sin still ... living a life not fully yielded to the Holy Spirit and trying to do things in our own power. Cheers ..
