One correction - You have not mentioned that initially Salvatore says that Assunta was as ugly as a devil and refused to marry Assunta but later when he see her at the church , he agrees .

Assunta here in the video is not ugly as its described in the short stories book ....she is beautiful both at heart and face not like the girl of Grande Marina good looking outside bad heart inside.

One thing was wrong.. when Salvatore went to grand marina.. her mother said rudely that her daughter cannot marry a man who is not strong enough to work like a man. The girl didn't say anything.
