Salvia is a staple for every sunny garden. It asks little more than sunshine and a little drink every once in a while in return for producing a bountiful mass of colorful flower spires from late spring into early summer. Laura, our trials manager, takes you around the display gardens to show you which Salvia's are blooming on June 9th in Michigan.

Perfect Profusion is beautiful! I wish I got that and knew about it before getting the more purple variety; I just have too many purple shades in my yard, lol. Thanks!! I'm going to see if I can grow this somewhere around my yard.

11 months later….check out Laura from garden answer; she shows how to plant, fertilize as well as soil and light conditions. Tons of ideas on combining various plants that have similar growing conditions.

Just planted three varieties (May Night, Blue Hill, and East Friesland), two I believe are nemerosa and one is hybrid...The East Friesland and May Night are doing great so far, not getting as much from the Blue Hill (but I also planted them fairly late)

Just thought I’d add to this for anyone deciding between salvia varieties in the “blue” / deep purple range: Blue Hill is a big healthy mound for me in its second Summer but the flower calyx is smaller and much less impactful in the garden than violet riot. It would look good in a sunny spot in a woodland or native-style perennial garden IMO - it has that more natural look if that makes sense - whereas the violet riot is more of a “wow” border plant when in bloom. Only issue I’ve had with violet riot is already in year 2 it’s starting to splay after heavy rains (the mounds are that large already) - but keep in mind we’ve had REALLY heavy rains in Ontario this spring (2022) so while that’s not ideal, it may not be a common problem.

Deadheading encourages a longer bloom time. If plants get leggy during the season, cut them all the way back to the newly developed foliage. If cut back, plants may rebloom in fall but often the flowers are fewer and smaller.

Bonjour. Merci pour la vidéo. Puis je déplacer un pied de sauge actuellement où c’est trop tard dans la saison ? Elle se retrouve coincée entre des vivaces qui poussent plus vite qu’elle. Est ce que la sauge amistad repart du pied ? J’en ai 3 dans mon jardin qui n’ont que de toutes petites feuilles à la base. Merci de vos réponses.
