This was the song Stevie wrote after she and Lindsey broke up to express how she felt. The song he wrote about the same event was Go Your Own Way. Well, Secondhand News too. They're so powerful because they're authentic just like you said. They truly don't like one another, but will always love one another. What they were going through during the writing, arranging, recording, producing of Rumours was very painful and angst-ridden due to the breakup of such a long term relationship with such deep feelings. Rumours is a standout album among albums still after all these years.

Yes, growing up in the 70s/80s, we just thought all this great music, including from the 60s, was just normal and would continue forever. We had no idea the bounty of incredible music we had was so unique and special. For me, music past the early 90s changed for the worse and has only gotten worse. There are some exceptions, but overall the old stuff is far, far superior and will be listened to for centuries.

Thank You for validating on of the greatest joys of my life. When I was young, I thought this music would last forever. Dreams is skimming the surface of Stevie Nicks. There are so many artists and so many "Dreams" yet to be found in this era. This is what humans are capable of and it is extremely sad what autotuned monstrosities we've chosen to present as worthy of attention these days.

Great reaction, thank you. Glad to see the younger generations discover what we grew up with and appreciate real talent. Next react to their song “Tusk” it’s in a category all its own. Do a live and studio version. Live is better. Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie each have very distinctive voices. You’ll tell them apart very quickly. Great job, more please!

This album ruled the airwaves in 1977 and a few years beyond. Most of the songs saw airplay on both AM and FM radio, on both rock and easy-listening radio. It was everywhere. Their popularity really grew when Stevie Nicks joined the band in '75. They had a follow-up up album in '79, but Stevie embarked on a solo career soon after and Fleetwood Mac never saw the same level of success.

The drama you started to read on was one of the biggest fueling factors in how great Rumours was/is. The lyrics. The passion. The despair. Turmoil. And out of the chaos...came one of the greatest albums of all time. Any "top greatest albums of all time" list always has it in the top 3, toggling back & forth with Abbey Road & Thriller. And Stevie is a voice you will soon realize that is one of one. You'll be able to pick her out anywhere. That soft but strong melodic trill in her voice, sort of a tremble in her notes. So pure & raw. There's a reason she is the 1st woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame twice. First with Fleetwood Mac & then by herself. You should check out Go Your Own Way or Songbird from Rumours. A couple not on Rumours but equally as perfect, are Gypsy & Little Lies. Landslide gives you way more Stevie, & for some Stevie solos if you want, check out Edge of Seventeen or Stop Dragging My Heart Around.

The Buckingham/Nicks era was the third incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. The first one was the original Peter Green era. Peter Green wrote the song "Black Magic Woman" and FM recorded it about a year before Santana. If you have never heard the original version I would recommend it. The next era, albeit brief, was with Bob Welsh. "Hypnotized" is probably the most recognizable track of that period. Then there's the Buckingham/Nicks era when they had their greatest success. You should check out some of each of the different sounds from each era.

@PassionGrows

From 1975 on the 3 singers were Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie. They all contributed to the band . In 1991 the band broke up but reunited in 1997 when they recorded The Dance Live. They released the video of that concert it was an AMAZING performance by the band which threw them back into the game . After touring for The Dance ….Christine McVie decided she was done and retired . The band went on without her and recorded another great album called Say You Will in 2001. They have been touring ever since but never recorded another album. Christine McVie came back after 14 years and joined them on two worldwide tours. Stevie Nicks has had her own very successful SOLO career since 1981s Belladonna. Stevie Nicks was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Making her the first female ever to be inducted twice. Once with the band and once as a solo. Check out STEVIE nicks solo music….Edge of Seventeen, Leather and Lace w Don Henley, Stop Dragging my Heart Around w Tom Petty, Whenever I Call You Friend w Kenny Loggins,Stand Back, Beauty and The Beast, Talk To Me, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, I Can’t Wait, Rock a Little, Fall From Grace, Trouble in Shan-Gri-La, Italian Summer, Moonlight ( A Vampires Dream) and many many more.

This song, Dreams is mostly Stevie Nicks singing. The chorus features all three (Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie). When you heard The Chain, that was Lindsey and Stevie doing a back and forth with Christine adding some vocals in the chorus. In Go Your Own Way, that was mostly Lindsey Buckingham singing, with Stevie and Christine in the chorus. If you want a more Christine-focused vocal, there are slower ballads like Oh Daddy and Songbird, but I think you'll really like You Make Loving Fun. It's one of the more optimistic songs on Rumours.

Enjoyed your reaction, it's hard to explain to someone how it was to turn on your radio every day to hear brilliance, there is almost never an end to 70's music. It's hard getting old, but I wouldn't change growing up in the 70's for a million dollars. My hobby was going to concerts, I've seen almost everyone I wanted to, only a few I didn't get to see live.

Fleetwood Mac, in its "classic" lineup which appears on Rumours, where the song "Dreams" appears, has 3 "lead singers" - Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, and Lindsey Buckingham. Each of these three singers have songs in Fleetwood Mac that they individually sing lead on - and the rest will sing backup vocals with good harmonies. Or sometimes more than one will sing the lead in harmony with each other.

Stevie nicks has said she wrote Dreams in ten minutes in a room under the studio of Sly Stone. The song was in response to Lindsey Buckingham's bitter Go Your Own Way which he wrote after the two broke up. Both songs were hits. Can you imagine having to play those songs live in concert while being on stage with the person the songs are about for the world to hear? This band wrote about its personal heartbreaks, including with each other. That is one reason its fans are so loyal. Brutally honest band.

I was ten years old when Rumours came out. My best friend's mother played it non-stop when I was over at the house. It really takes me back. There is so much music to discover for me too, and I was there, lol. I'm so happy you're enjoying this era of music. I particularly like song "The Chain." I think Stevie Nicks with her unique husky voice and her gypsy-like style captured the attention more than her other band mates. The personal relationships complicated matters, but I think they eventually all realized that their success depended on each other. Stevie Nicks had an incredible duet with Tom Petty when she was solo, "Stop Dragging My Heart Around," and another cool one with Don Henley from the Eagles, "Leather and Lace."

Getting a #1 single in the 70's was far more difficult than it is today. So many genius acts and only so many songs that could be played in a day. No MTV yet, FM was in it's rock infancy. (Some cars didn't even have FM radios in them.) So AM radio, movie/TV soundtracks and shows like The Midnight Special or Saturday Night Live were really the only way to reach a mass audience. The album, however, was #1 it seems like forever.

Mick Fleetwood blew me away at a concert... (can't remember which one, my mom would take me every year they came) he had a drum suit on and gave the most memorable drum solo ever. He is the most underestimated drummers out there. I love his beat

Great band, great album. Takes me way back. Great song. Lots of good music in 1977 and 1978. One of my favorite bands when I was young. Much love.

You're spot on! Watching you listen to it for the first time is much like getting to hear for the first time myself! It's such a rush of nostalgia, love, wonderment-really.

Now that you’ve heard the original, check out Laney Gardners cover of this song. I’ve never heard anyone sound like Stevie Nicks like this girl does.

Stevie is featured quite a bit but Christine was also featured on songs as well. "Everywhere" is an upbeat song she leads in, "You Make Loving Fun" is one of my favorites. "Songbird" is a slow, soft, hauntingly beautiful song that Christine sings, and another very upbeat songs that is a favorite is "Say you Love Me". She has a beautiful voice. Some great songs by Fleetwood Mac do not have the "gals" as lead vocalists. Lindsay leads in the jungle vibes song "Tusk" and the iconic song "The Chain", definitely worth a listen to if you haven't heard it. Unlike Led Zepplin, Fleetwood did not have one main vocalist, I think it added to their versatility as a great band. As for band members, most know the bands members after Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the group. Of course you know STevie and Lindsey were a couple, and Christine and John McVie (bass guitar) were married, and there was the drummer Mick Fleetwood. . By the end Stevie and Lindsey broke up and Christine and John divorced. Although they keptthings going for a while but there were obvious challenges and different affairs that occured making things difficult for different members to come back.

Dreams is Stevie Nicks. The chorus of The Chain was Lindsey. Go Your Own Way was Lindsey. Landslide is Stevie. Silver Springs is Stevie and was supposed to be on Rumours. I haven't seen you react to a song by the other woman in the band yet: Christine McVie.

Rumours (correct spelling) is one of the best albums of ALL time. Stevie Nicks sings this song. She's considered the "lead" singer but they all have their songs.

Before they were in Fleetwood Mac there was an album by Buckinghan-Nicks you really should give a listen too. Check out the track Frozen Love. Mick Fleetwood heard it & they were hired almost on the spot!

They have lots of albums but they go back to the sixties and went through various band members, singers and musical styles. You would not recognize them before this album with Stevie Nicks.

You should sample two of Stevie’s songs from Fleetwood Mac Live: Sara and Fireflies. Both are magical.
