The Droughtlander is finally over! After almost a two-year wait, time-travelling period drama Outlander is back for a sixth season, picking up the story of Claire and Jamie Fraser (Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan) as they build a life on Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina with their extended family.
Of course, this being Outlander, that life is never simple, and the new season not only deals with the aftermath of Claire’s assault in season five, but also introduces a new family - the Christies - who come to live on the Ridge.
Digital Spy caught up with star Sam Heughan to exclusively chat about season six, an important new addition to the crew, and just how he sees Outlander ending…

She is good. Some of them are so awful. I think they also get a little starstruck sometimes.

I liked Caitriona’s answer to the question of how the Jamie and Claire story should end. She said Jamie and Claire should have a Romeo and Juliet type of ending, because one could not live without the other. I totally agree. We don’t know what Diana has in mind, but we’d certainly like to say goodbye seeing them sitting peacefully by a fire drinking some whisky or riding off into the sunset, together.

As S6. Is almost upon us this has to be one of the most relaxed interviews I’ve seen with Sam, with some intelligent questions from a well informed interviewer, on the making of the most remarkable love story since Adam & Eve, Jamie & Claire’s story began by a roaring log fire 🔥 with Jamie’s tousled red hair glowing in the firelight, the look on Jamie’s face was one of wonder and amazement at the beautiful vision of Claire, in that instant he fell hopelessly in love 💘 it’s only fitting that he should end his days with Claire 💞 by a roaring log fire at Fraser’s Ridge! but it’s ‘Outlander’ that’s never been predictable! and there’s a long way to go yet so who knows apart from Sam and Diana 🤔 and they aren’t going to tell! 😊

This was a good interview. Sam is very down to earth. I think intimacy coordinator will be an interesting and good addition to the set given how much trauma Claire experienced last season (no spoilers) and how Sam and Claire can understand and work through this during intimate moments. I wonder if that was part of the thinking in hiring the coordinator, as well as to support the actors in general.

I loved the interview, it was very well played with lots of smart questions and intelligent answers. What is really interesting is how to end this series. I would like to see lots of flashbacks and Jamie's ghost explained in a very sci-fi way with lots of special effects and a story behind it to blow your mind. Sorry Sam the ending to Outlander needs to be as epic as this series has been. I love the idea of a Romeo & Juliet ending, I can't wait to see what you will all come up with. Good luck ❤️

It's fun to hear an actor talk about how they build the mindset for the character and how it changes. I think we, the fans, think the character more real than the actor who spends so much time pretending to be that. You'd think it would be the other way around.

Love watching his interviews 😍. With this one I learned alot more and gained even MORE RESPECT for what they do. Although I and all fans get the excitement and entertainment of the actors and show, it must be stressful at times. Especially to get the right shot and energy with the love, and fight scenes in such trying times! CONGRATULATIONS HIGHLANDER!, and welcome back, ☺💖❣

I love the intimate scenes on Outlander but I don't find them explicit, not even by Starz standards. Romantic yes but there's much more explicit content on other premium cable and streaming services. For instance I just watched Pam and Tommy on Hulu and WOW.

Intimacy coordinator. I knew this was coming. There goes the daring, freshness and absolute realism which is the essence of Outlander. I hope I am pleasantly surprised but this series is now headed for Hallmark movie status. I doubt we even see Sam with his shirt off because....you know...objectifying. Sad IMHO.

Wow! I think the opposite will be true. There are times when it would have made a wonderful difference. There are some moments that are just awkward in the intimate scenes between Jamie and Claire. If I notice it, surely someone whose profession is to coach in this area would be able to smooth moments like that out.
@LS-to9eo

@@lynda.grace.14 I can't think of any "awkward" scenes. I absolutely thought Sam and Cait worked their way through these scenes with their own boundaries and their own desire to make these scenes as "real" as possible. As I think it should be. Just like in any scene, the actors bring their take and knowledge to the scene. An "intimacy coordinator" is not interested in any of that. They are "me too" chaperones. Their lens and job is totally different. Now, can I think of a scene or two that I thought wasn't needed....absolutely. Not sure what episode it is, but where Jamie falls asleep and Claire is hoping for more...and he goes to the window and "takes care of her". That was awkward...and IMHO not needed.
@lynda.grace.14

@@LS-to9eo Let's just say that not everyone will see things the same way. However, I don't think the perceived "reality" of a sex scene should depend on the actors' "knowledge" or "boundaries" any more than a battle scene should be left to a free-for-all with implements that could harm the actors. As for "me too chaperones," well, that perhaps isn't a bad thing--especially for actors doing their first scenes of this nature and not necessarily comfortable in the role. Actors who haven't had great sex might not necessarily know how to best portray it.

@@lynda.grace.14 I respect your opinion. However you enjoy Outlander is okay with me. Let's just say your understanding of a "me too" chaperone and the role of an intimacy coordinator are totally different from mine. Time will tell for me and ... there's always the first five seasons to keep me happy.

Sandra Pasquarella, hello Jersey friend, love you suggestions on how to end ‘Outlander’ has to be something spectacular I agree, have watched S6. four times, some dark twists and turns, and more to come, my only problem still is Jamie/Sam’s unnatural looking wig! It’s distracting me from the story lines, especially when Claire makes her romantic advances, I feel like she wants to run her fingers through his hair like in their youth, but it’s rigid, no life in it at all, Sam’s character isn’t that old yet! I think Tom Christie is borrowing the same wig, Galway and I are in agreement on that! Oh! well who cares what we think 🤔 see you around, take care, 🤗👋
