The 1 and 0 actually are more like I’s and O’s. They signify either open (O) or closed (I - on) circuits. Just visualize what a circuit diagram looks like, the whole thing is compromised of these types of designations

HDDs dont work by putting physical grooves into the disk. they work by flipping the magnetic polarity in tiny regions on the disk which get encoded as either a 1 or a 0 for North or South. this is what allows your to read/write as well as rewrite, if HDDs used phyisical grooves then they could only be written once.

we used to record 8-10TB of video per day between 2 cameras 15 years ago... A house wired with multiple cameras per room could easily produce petabytes... I don't hold stock in any deadman's triggers or even consider them as strategically viable for anything other than posthumous self-incrimination, but it's beyond naïve to think that 20-200TB is an unrealistic amount of data.

In my CS class my teacher explained that HDD's are sold using base 10 to calculate their storage capacity, but computers use base 2 (binary) and the difference is enough to throw off the numbers. Its still dumb that the people who sell hard drives havent figured out they should account for that.

If you want archival data, you want to use archival media. magnetic media can be erased by EM fields, so that's tape and hdd out. flash media is unrecoverable if the controller is damaged, and is subject to bit flipping over time. It takes less than 5 years for it to corrupt. consumer CD/DVD/BR writable are all heat-sensitive dyes encased in plastic that is lost if the metallic layer is exposed to oxygen or heat. The only somewhat viable medium are M-Discs. They look like Blu-Ray discs, but they use sheets of inorganic mineral that the burners actually permanently burn away to make raw bits. They're not susceptible to heat damage, and you can read the data with a microscope one bit at a time, even if it's horribly damaged.

i believe raid 60 is having some drive in a raid 0 config for speed then grouping them in a raid 6 config for redundancy. you end up lose a bit of usable space but should have best speed and redundancy. raid 0 has no redundancy and all speed, while raid 5/6 has good speed and redundancy.

Nerd alert: HDDs store the data on spinning metal platters, yes, but it's not phyical "cuts" like a vinyl record. Sandwiched underneath the coated metal alloy layers we see on the surface is a ~100 nanometer thin "magnetic functional layer" that is charged/discharged by the read/write head. The surface is just basically insulation. A cassette tape is a closer analogy to how the data gets stored. Honestly, it's wild amazing shit when you think about it.

The only way I've ever seen a proper deadman "switch" was in the Book 13 Reasons Why. The lady that it revolved around said she had intimate details of horrible things of people that wronged her and would have someone release the information if they didn't go through with her instructions. The switch is literally just a person manually releasing the information. Something tells me he didn't have someone like that.

Please, n00b, i was playing Half-Life: Counter-Strike 1.6 for 4 years before Counter-Strike: Source was released and as most 1337 CAL competitive players (a very exclusive club of barely 700,000 players, lol) I didn't switch to Source until right before Global Offensive came out!

The biggest files are images made for print and if they are retouched and have layers they get big. Video stuff is only a 75dpi so the TVs are interpolating its a false resolution print is using or was in film days a scan of 450 even more dpi original to give best result. If you try take a TV screen shot and print it it's crappy. Digital photography is hiding something I believe thats why you cant hold a good sharp pause like you could with videos cause its not shot as stills and run together its shot continuously evolving as seen by most pauses. its fluid and kinetic and interpolates continuously I believe and has some kind of insight into the unseen world as you can often see blatant noise in the backgrounds that are like a noise in the same way the wall is used in music it fills the gaps and make it sound full and rounded really its just taking a clean line over the peaks and troughs of music thus real music fans like the peaks and troughs as its real and what we listen to is hard for any vocalist or band to replicate and if it sounds different we think they are shit. The noise in video fills with freak things images but used to crate shadow and light but far es are very clear its not parabola if I wanted to see pictures in my work My mind would make me see the pics I wanted in my mind . I know what making tits in the cloud is like !

The 0/1 thing is how you describe logic levels in circuits. 0 is 0 volts or low, 1 is high (5 volts or whatever voltage of the circuit is). It's all based on boolean algebra
