I'm an Arsenal fan but absolutely gutted for Sam. To miss out on the second half of Emma's last season, to miss the Olympics after missing most of her home World Cup. The only silver lining is that at least Kristie is in the UK now to help her through her recovery.

I think women's anatomy is different than men's much. Maybe this situation get harder to recover women' injury

This is such devastating news. I don't like seeing any ACL injuries happen to any players. I wish Sam the best in her recovery. Hopefully, the medical experts can find a solution to this situation sooner than later....

It's horrible what has happened to Sam, wishing her a speedy recovery. Would love to hear you speak about fan/player engagement on social media and how to ensure players' privacy and safety as the game gets more popular. I'm really looking forward to the pod.

Like you said she plays all the games Chelsea flogged her to the point of not being able to play in the World Cup. There was one point she flew back to eng from home after matches here in Oz and she was playing for Chelsea the very next day. Watch the decline in not really her performance but her ability and enjoyment of the game. For the past two years with all these acls we hear game loading again and again and again but when it comes to big players and big games the expectation is 90+ minutes 2x a week. I’m really fucking mad about this one. We’ve seen a really serious injury coming for sam for months now. It’s not fair.

Chelsea pay her wages - she’s paid to play for Chelsea. Apart from this last Matildas camp in Canada, Sam gets called up for every camp, flying to and from Australia all the time - Matildas haven’t been managing her until a month ago. Usually if she has just come off a plane from Aus, she starts on the bench for Chelsea. But if it’s a massive game she has to start. She’s been more injury free at Chelsea than she was in her career prior. That’s a fact. Chelsea also has far less long term injuries than other clubs like arsenal for example. To blame this on Chelsea when she’s just come off a holiday and this isn’t her first acl is a bit rich.

after Beth England left, Chelsea played the hell out of kerr, no load management what so ever. Chelsea didn't even get her a backup last January. she definitely went into the olympics not a 100%.

So devastating, especially in the Olympic year and with the Champions League.

The fact that the known predispositions to ACL are calf/hamstring injuries makes me sad and mad & hope she wasn’t under pressure or overloading. Especially with Millie out…. Did mine in 2013, it’s no joke. Feel like at least it was done in private she won’t have to watch 4678 teenage stans making edits of her injury on tiktok while they’re on the school bus. Love to my gal Rue ❤

Yikes that cough sounds rough. Feel better soon. Utterly gutted for Sam. We need a lot more research in ACL's in the women's sport. This is just ridiculous. I'm seeing a lot of hyper mobility associated with ACL's and unfortunately most medics are woefully educated about hyper mobility conditions such as ehlers-danlos syndrome and Marfan's.

Hello Shebahn. I commented elsewhere, after the loss to Arsenal, that I was surprised Chelsea had not brought on Agnes Beever-Jones (Aggie) to get some experience, once the game was obviously lost, as they might need her later in the season. Previously, a couple of things I had commented on StuntPegg channel seemed to have happened and I said that was a bit spooky. In this case, it is not as if this injury was not likely, after recent trends, so more like common sense, like your conversation suggested. I wonder if Chelsea would look to loan a player this window, or use Guro Reiten in a more advanced role and get Niamh Charles further forward, like they seemed to do when Guro was injured?

really sad for SK. how about a loan move for someone like Oshoala (a bit out of favour at Barça) as a stopgap for Chelsea?

This is terrible news. The number of ACL injuries in women’s football is off the charts. I ask you to watch Step by Step about Beth Mead & Vivianna Miedema recovery ❤️🩹. One of the best documentary made. Get well soon Sam 🦘

What a shame. She has been hurt for 6 months it seems. Why was she playing with a persistent injury? She should have just been deactivated right after the World Cup. I'm sure playing with a leg injury contributed to her getting an ACL.

Chelsea should now act in the transfer window to get another striker. When Sam comes back from injury there will then be the opportunity to rotate them. Definitely should look at Spanish and possibly the Hacken attack as possible sources?

Awful news I couldn’t believe it when the story broke. Get well soon Sam. Was it this year that her contract is up for renewal? On a completely different topic please can we get Ruesha a job on the new gladiator show. I can just see her bashing someone with one of those big cotton buds lol.

The first of the year & sadly there will be more surely. I hate these injuries and why they happen to massive names in women’s football (and other young players looking to make their name heard) and missing the world cup (well most of it) wasnt at the 2 friendlys against Canada in the Last international break of last year & now this has happened, its sad😢 for sam, Chelsea & the matildas. And im saying this as an Arsenal fan. Sam is one of my favourite players ever & it’s unbelievable this has happened to her & the thing about sam playing her last game under emma hayes just broke my heart😢

to miss most of the world cup and now the Olympics . our Matildas take the Olympics very seriously as they love representing Australia and most hold Cathy Freeman as their hero . i`m an Aussie Arsenal fan but i want Sam to come back better than ever . 💖💖🙏🙏

I guess Sam Kerr can come back the field after 2,5 or 3 months ( middle of April) ..some friend would call me "Leo" or "Levo" during my childhood time. A kind of abbreviation of Levent.

I came off a 14hr flight to hear the news fresh off press about our Aussie Sammy, and I don't know if it was jet lag or just true devastation, but I nearly cried in the middle of a airport ppl most probs thought someone died the way i was carrying on 😂

And Sam will likely miss the Olympics, right? I don't know if Australia qualified, but that would be so sad for Sam!
@dylanmaxey25314 ай бұрын
This bites, they make these women carry too much work loads on the body. At least Kristie will be in West Ham to help her through the hard times. They also need to do better medical research especially given the physiological shape difference of the pelvis and hormone influences. Bonus, Emma Hayes is her coach. Coivd is coming back hard in the USA watch those coughs.
@awol_3334 ай бұрын
It’s likely that she won’t play under Emma Hayes again.

Women are more likely to have acl issues than men, so they need to reduce the length of the games or something
@shreddedguy6794 ай бұрын
its time women accept they need games on a smaller pitch and less minutes 90 is too much for them, cue the 'insecure' comments lol, but the sooner women realise their anatomy isnt made for playing sports like this long term, the sooner the game will be changed to help then play without high risk of ACL injury.
@JoseHernandeZeitgeist4 ай бұрын
it's time to you to stop being ignorant, professionalism just already came to women's football, there's a lot of players and teams that doesn't work with specialized staff to prepare theirselfs and adapt their routines to that efforts football demmands, making emphasis in muscle, tendons and ligaments strengthening to hold more efforts during more time. Also rule has it's influence with how well and how much they can recover their bodies after trainning and maing certain efforts. Just grow up and learn there's no relation between ACL injuries and the size of the pitch, same as there's no relation with the 90 minutes played per match. You don't even know about the physical differences between men's and women's and how it impacts on football.
@mb111114 ай бұрын
Do men not tear their ACL’s too? Is it just women?
@shreddedguy6794 ай бұрын
@@mb11111 they do, but it hardly happens in the mens game, which is not only more games, but 10x more physical, in womens football it is happening literally every second game, every week we are hearing about a new ACL injury to some womens superstar player and the scientific literature on why women are more injury prone is already published, il be happy to link you it if you so need confirmation
@shreddedguy6794 ай бұрын
@@mb11111 it happens 6-8x more in the womens game, its just not good
@mb111114 ай бұрын
@@shreddedguy679 you didn’t answer my question. It doesn’t matter how much something happens. You want women to have smaller pitches and play less than 90 mins. Should men who have suffered ACL’s also play on smaller pitches and less than 90 mins or is it just women?
