The instrument is just called a xylophone, but it’s typically also called an Orff instrument. Carl Orff was a composer and music educator that created the Orff Method of teaching music to beginning learners, it’s widely popular in elementary music classrooms. Those large wooden xylophones are the most commonly used instrument for the Orff method. I feel super nerdy, but I’m in my last semester as a Music Education Major. Lol love you both so much 💗

Orff is a teaching method also known as orchestration. It is teaching students on mini percussion/barred instruments :) Large and wooden is the marimba. Small and metal bars is the xylophone.

Carl Orff is a music educator/composer who's renowned for his innovations in elementary music education! Orff has many methods of music ed that elementary teachers implement into their classrooms, including instruments like the ones in the Orff Orchestra you were in. In regular elementary classrooms you usually just see xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels. I've never seen an actual Orff Orchestra like that where it was basically like a regular band or orchestra but you only played Orff instruments. Neat!
