Samantha and Darrin (Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick Sargent) must put a fake séance together for Mrs. Stephens (Mabel Albertson).
From Season 7 Episode 28 'Samantha and the Antique Doll' - Samantha allows Darrin's mother to think that she has magical powers. A fake séance cures her of this idea.

No no no! The best seance episode was the one with the original Gladys kravets. When Sam convinced her that she was psychic. With the original Darren, Dick York, too. It's hilarious!

They recycled scripts in a lot of sitcoms back then even "borrowed" from other similar sitcoms.

Mabel Albertson, who played Darrin's mother, also played Donald hollinger's mother in the sitcom, that girl.

@@thinkthensend9228 Mabel Albertson was the sister of actor Jack Albertson, who was in the movie, the Poseidon adventure and he was in the TV show, Chico and the man. Mabel Albertson was also the mother-in-law of Cloris leachman, who played Phyllis in the Mary Tyler Moore show.

@@dianetheisen8664 hi Diane. I hope that you and your family are doing well. I'm not too fond of Darrin's mother, either. Mabel Albertson was a popular character actress in the 60's and 70's. This episode was the last appearance of Darrin's parents. I'm always glad to hear from you. A lot of people think that Bewitched was the best sitcom on TV. I tend to agree. Good night, Diane. I remember this being around the time when books about "Mind over matter" were resurfacing. I can't help but think that the writers were doing some "extra curriculum" research for these episodes to add a little more of a realistic touch to the storylines.

If I remember correctly the woman who played mother Stevens also played Abigail Adams the First Lady to President John Adams in an episode of Daniel Boone!!!!!!!!!! Am I right or wrong?

Yes, Mabel Albertson played Abigail Adams in the 1967 episode of Daniel Boone. The episode was titled, take the southbound stage.

One thing always puzzled me. Darrin claims he is from Missouri. You would think his mother and dad would be living there, yet here they are in New York. That was never explained.

I don't think Darrin actually claimed to be from Missouri, I think he was using the idiom I'm from Missouri, which means "prove it". Missouri is the "show me" state.

I believe they moved after Tabitha was born. Because they did have to travel to see Darrin in season 1.

This episode is similar to ABNER KADABRA from season one. I like them both. In the first one, Gladys catches Sam arranging pictures via witchcraft. Sam convinces Gladys that she has "the power". Sam had to scare her out of this belief. In this episode SAMANTHA AND THE ANTIQUE DOLL, Phyllis sees Tabitha use her power to float the doll over to her. Again, Sam has to cover up who she and Tabitha are, so she uses Darrin's mother to deflect what she had just seen I love it when Tabitha comes down stairs to get the doll. She looks around in the direction of the kitchen. She then starts to float the doll to her when Phyllis and her Mom came from the den direction. Tabitha: "Shall I go to my room?" Sam: "That's a nice safe place to be. I'll be up in a minute.?

Yeah, but this time, the writers started recycling their stories. Some of them did well enough with a light dusting.

@@ajs11201 Agreed. The recycling of stories started in the first season and continued. For example, in season one, IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE and LING LING and there are others. BEWITCHED is a fun show, but it is a bit limited in what writers can do within the concept. That can also be said of every movie, book, or TV show that's ever been done. Personally, I find TV programming today to be boring.

That scene was from season 7 or 8, which were the weakest seasons, by far, where the writers basically ran out of ideas and started rehashing old themes. The seance that was done in season 2 (I think) with the original Mrs. Kravitz (Alice Pearce) was far funnier imo. And I'm saying this despite senior Mrs Stephens (Mabel Albertson) being one of my absolute favorite characters on the show.

The first one always reminded me of an ape, the angry expressions he always had with literally every situation (magical and regular). This Darrin may have not been the best actor but he does look better, like the pretty tv faces we see everywhere today
