When you're an developer and know that most things separating all apps but the first is some layout stuff. Sam Beckman you can actually edit any of those 4 apps to looks like identical to the one you like in less then an hour. It's the code behind them that matters most. AND ... making sure it runs (tests)

@@Eddy-ly2ml see the thing about rate, what constitutes a good rate differs between countries. a senior developer in the US make as much as an entire web agency with a full team in my country. that's why people from poorer countries feel like it's ok to lower their rates. i basically earn 5$/h so for me 10 does not seem that bad while in the US even a high schooler might look down on it.

I mean fair enough, but also he's going to a one stop shop. If you are offering your skills as an app developer and you are doing everything yourself, you should probably be able to deliver on design as well.

@@zeragon7 Clearly you don't understand Software Development Life Cycle nor the Tech Industry. He took a lot of shortcuts, and going for design first review. And for the price that most of candidates were charging is underprice for the prototype they developed. If you want backend service and etc... You might need to either pay upfront more or pay monthly basis for Firebase or server.

Please can you differentiate between developing skills and design skills....? I am new to app dev and i am not able to clearly distinguish between them

@@saisiddeshmamidoju1728 a designer could have used Adobe XD or Figma or some design software to design the look and feel of the app, these softwares can also make interactive prototypes that can run on a phone and behave like an actual app. The Developer translates the designs into actual code which runs on a device. Developing a robust, responsive well coded app which does not crash or is slow is not easy. You have to know code design patterns, software architecture principles, coding best practices and the framework APIs and libraries that you are using to code the app.

The average price in Europe for an experienced developer is often around 500€ per day I think. So yeah the price mentioned in this video are incredibly low. Especially that they are supposed to come up with a UX it seems.

But the thing here is that they are offering that in fiver, if they are promising a full app, that one has to have design, if not they have to specify that will be just the logic with a simple design

The developers need to have a guide to deliver the expected results to the client, it doesn't need to be from a designer, although is rlly nice, just a simple sketch on a paper or other app that the client find interesting. Developers that aren't familiarized with UI/UX suck at this part.

I mean yeah, but the problem is not the design itself but how comfortable it is to use. Basically the experience is what counts. I will give you an example. A bad quality video on youtube is easier to watch and process than a sharp image with a terrible sound... Ears ask more from you and your eyes are strong on their own, so you need to invest in audio more for a better experience. Now don't quote me on that but i believe that's the reason sports still have casters constantly speaking and commenting on a background. It started when there was no TV and they were essential for a radio, but then the TVs came but casters are still a thing. And man, just mute a sports match and it becomes boring af. So your app might be the best one in terms of features but if it's not a smooth experience while using it - functionality means less... Like how your ears need to be a priority in a media consumption, your eyes is a priority for using a tool, an instrument, which an app pretty much is if you think about it

I´m a dev and completely agree with you, better to reach devs with an already established design since the mayority have a hard time with the creativity and UI part.

And i do really wonder what backend they are using. If its just an AWS or Azure hosting. He did say in one of the apps, the loading times were slow. So did he leave that up to them?

They would have used app creation software. They didn’t programme it from scratch.

@@faisalnafees8413 nope its a good thing, components not only save time, they bring consistency to your applications... if you have a good testable component that you can pull in and it has a single responsibility without intervening on other components, it's good code and wise to implement.

@Med jed this just isn't true at all. Go use a service like flutterflow and create an app in 14 days. Now imagine the client adopts it but later wants all the buttons to have a shadow and animations. With the way these website builders and applications work, they typically generate code without splitting them into classes - you get a lot of repeated code. This kind of code is an absolute nightmare to maintain. My job is currently to push an update for an app that has been outsourced and developed in a rush meaning it takes a lot longer to add to the top of because instead of just extending classes like you would typically, you're having to manually change whitebutton34 to have the correct functionality. This method is fast and effective. It is not at all scalable or maintainable.

@Med jed oh I see what you mean now, it's smart for them to cut these corners because of the perceived effort, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's smart to hire these people.

Lol why pay 10k when you can pay $200? 🤣🤣 I went on fiver for a logo design. Cost me a fraction of the price I was quoted by a company and it looked perfect. Also this is a good way to get a prototype and to show to investors without potential wasting 10k? Not everyone has 10k to throw at an app so he's showing other options. Also it's hardly exploitation when they're literally setting their own price. Too many people are moving into tech jobs. Makes the market a whole lot cheaper. You want to make 10k for an easy job...go pick up a hammer as no one else wants to do that anymore. 😂 Exploitation 😂

the first guy was one of those guys that you could never help improve their work because they already felt like they were boss at it.

But a month has an average of 730 hours

Working on it for only 20 days now along with my job. It is in the prototype phase but hopefully! once it is done the app will be much more polished.

Sometimes it depends where they are from. If the developer is from a third world country like Africa for example, then that is good money to them when exchanged to their currency since their currency is weaker.

Are they maybe using firebase free tier Apis? It's a real quick spin up for a service with at least three or four endpoints. Definitely not scaleable. I need to know more...

Firebase free cota can handle the job easily, but I think that he don't use external services saving locally the user data.

My guess is you are looking for a fully fledged app with endless rewrites. He probably advertised for a prototype only at a fixed rate. Now that he has selected the developer it is likely they would negotiate a much higher price for a fully fledged developer. As he mentioned a lot of features were missing and the app wouldn't have been built to scale and maybe didn't even have a fully working back end.

You did it much more safe. He has a back-end and no security. people's data but no GDPR. 5 different apps that all look exactly the same, because his "developers" aren't developing jack, just pasting something they found on Canyon. The MOMENT he wanted something custom they'd freak out and wonder what to do b/c none of them can really make things, except maybe Ali who didn't really dev anything, but he definitely expanded. A typical app takes MONTHS to make. How did you feel about the user typing in 5 URL's? NOBODY DOES THAT. He didn't think about how useful his app really is or better things. I've made apps for 11 years at various enterprises and startups. There's a reason you pay more. 13k isn't very bad, especially if you get more than a month's worth of work. He made a few mistakes as a designer, and A LOT of mistakes from a developers viewpoint. 5 bucks says if he shoved his Android app through a profiler he'd have more memory leaks than a cat will have of leftover food in their bowl when they get their less-favorable brand. Edit: I'm used to design processes that range from full Software analysis to redlines to agile game development. Though I tend to write prototypes faster in iOS than I can make in Figma, so I just make a live version as a demo, with minimal logic under the hood, b/c it's faster that way. Now I need to lecture him so that others coming across the video don't get bad idea.
