Sami Yusuf performs ‘Mast Qalandar’ live at the Dubai EXPO.
Experience the exhilarating sound of Sufi qawwali music in this version of the song popularised by the legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and delivered here in a new arrangement by Sami Yusuf and an international ensemble. The lyrics are based on a poem by the Chisti Sufi and musical genius, Amir Khusro, and were later modified by the great Panjabi Sufi poet Bulleh Shah.

@@zigzagtraveller231 well, technically the song based on the Amir Khusrau poem is many centuries old. In a modern culture, it was sung by Ashiq Hussain prior to Noor Jehan. With all that being said, what Sami Yusuf is playing in this video is NFAK’s rendition of it, it completely different arrangement, melody and even lyrics. Just listen to all 3, you’ll immediately notice the difference.

Learn Punjabi and Urdu, you will enjoy the Qawwali. Shahbaz Qalandar was a great Sufi. Lal Qalandar in in Pakistan province, unfortunately Islamic terrorists bombed it few years ago killing 60 people.

Bhulay shah was from Kasoor, Punjab, Pakistan and this qawali was dedicated to Sakhi Shahbaz Qalander, a Saint n sufi, buried in Sehwan Shareef, Sindh Pakistan. It was sung by many among them were Ustad Nusrat sahib n Anida Parveen sahiba the most famous, both Pakistani singers but well known n loved in sub continent. Later on Coke studio also realised its version.
