Is 35 pushing it? Keeping in mind I actually do want to benefit from the lateral strength archery can build? Or should I just start 30 and build up after a few months? Yet go back and forth with each to keep form yet maintain strength?

How does the draw feel at 55? Order one at 55 myself but I haven't used much recurves, only compounds and also is it very accurate at 55?

@@Woden81 the draw is tough, so the stronger your shoulders and back are the better. The biggest difference to keep in mind from the compounds is that there is no relief from the tension at full draw. Accuracy is all up to the shooter, my opinion. The more I practiced and became familiar with the bow, the better I got.

You are correct. The addition of the weather rest adds to the push left as well. All in all the bow handles well as it is, so I do not think sanding will be in its future. all that means is that you need to use a slightly weaker spine to get it flying straight. it's nowhere near something like a self bow or an English longbow where the arrow is literally sitting on your knuckle. sanding will just reduce its overall strength and integrity. might end up snapping if you use something like 60# limbs in a compromised bow. provided you have proper form, you can bare-shaft tune any bow so that it will fly straight even without feathers. I have done this to multiple setups out to 30 meters many times.

@@ScottWinters you too. Just one quick note though. Bows cut to centre will always have the arrows to the left. If you want centreshot, you actually need a bow cut PAST centre. How much past? Half the diameter of the arrow you are using. A micro diameter arrow will require less past centre than a fat arrow

I agree with you, it's all about the archer and not the bow. In my opinion you always get out of anything what you put in. I have looked at some high end bows and one day will give one a go. For now no matter what I shoot I enjoy it to the fullest potential. I think I spend the most time working on me and not so much worrying about the bow I'm using. They all have positives and negatives. I don't think I could ever part with my Samick. To this day I still get out with and just enjoy it. Have a great day my friend! Best regards

At 30 pounds I would start in the 600 spine range with a standard insert and probably a 100 to 125 grain field tip. That should give pretty good arrow flight. to work on your form. Once good with that, you could start tuning your arrows to suit your needs. At 45 pounds you have different options to choose from. I shoot a 500 spine arrow, 8.9 grains per inch, with a 50 grain insert, and 125 grain field tips. That's not a hard and fast rule though. At 50 pounds I tried a 340 spine, 100 grain insert, and 125 grain field tip. They work ok, i think they may be a little weak with a 100 grain insert in them, but that's the fun of it, tweaking until you get it just the way you like. Let me know how you progress my friend. Most of the designers of the Sage went to Southwest Archery and are producing a version of the Sage called the Spider. There is the standard spider and the spider xl, which is the 64 inche version. If you are just checking brace height a regular ruler would work great. If you are trying to set your nock height it might be a bit hard to get that set right. A bow square will snap onto your string and give you a precise nock height measurement. That being said, you could get an approximate measurement and start from there. A bow square just makes it easier. I love my Sage, it's gets some flack around the forums, but for the money you can't beat it. Excited for you my friend. Avinash, most spine charts are going to recommend a 500 to 600 spine for that draw weight. However, spine charts give you an average recommended spine weight. Easton has an online spine chart that covers a broad spectrum of weights and spine recommendations. Before you go out and purchase a full set of arrows I would buy a few different spines to see what works best with that weight. For the cost of a few arrows you could get a real world idea of what is best suited for your setup. Some online retailers sell test kits to get you going on the right path. The kits give you a few different spines to try out. An online search will give you and options for that. You will also need some field tips for the arrows, 85, 100, and 125 are what I would recommend to start with. Doing it this way will save you money and keep you from buying things that may equal a lot of frustration for you just starting out. Again, those are just my suggestions based on what worked for me. Once you have determined what works for your setup, concentrate on proper shooting form, anchor and of course your release. These are going to be key to make any arrow fly straight. I hope that helps you. It's a lot to take in just starting out but take it slow, and enjoy the learning process.

That's interesting. I would try some material in the limb pockets to start with. Very thin leather or felt. I would then check the string and how it aligns with the string grooves. If it was off there could create the issue you are experiencing with the arrow pass. I would also experiment with the nock point. Eddy, it is true that longer draw lengths can create stacking issues with shorter bows, and stressing the limbs repeatedly could cause limb damage / failure. Have you checked with Southwest Archery and looked at their Spider XL takedown bow? It's basically the samick Sage with 64" limbs. The longer limbs help with longer draw lengths and stacking issues. A lot of the designers of the Samick now work for Southwest Archery and brought the design to SA, repackaged it under the new name Spider XL a lot of people call it the Samick 2.0 . It may be worth a look for you. Plus their customer service is excellent and they would most likely be able.to address your questions and concerns. I'm a 30 inch draw length. I'm really pushing the Sage at that length. The Sage is a 62 inch total length bow. I moved to 64 inch bows to accommodate my draw length. At 29 you should be good. Hope that helps. Have a great day. Best regards.

It really depends on what draw weight you intend to start with. If you start with a lighter draw weight you will need to use a higher spine arrow. An example would be if you start 25 to 40 pounds i would use a 600 or 700 spined arrow. If you start higher you can use lower spined arrows, like a 500 spine. I also suggest you use full length arrow shafts. Once you get into it and start learning more you will most likely research and start tuning your arrows to fit your particular needs. 35 would be a great weight to start with. Not sure what your draw length is, but anything over 28 inches is going to add 2 to 3 pounds per inch over 28. If you are Shooting your first bow, dont worry too much about spine, if you are goin into the right direction (Something between 500-800 at 35#) you will be fine for the start. Arrow tuning is a highly commented topic and you'll need experience and time to look behind that, but as mentioned, a 500 with a heavier tip will work. Shoot straight and have fun!

I would start them out at 20 pound draw weight. Also it is not a bad idea to start adults that has never shot a bow at a low draw weight such as 20 - 25 pound draw weight. With a takedown bow like this you can always get the heavier draw weight limbs. I have the Samick Sage bows in 25,30,45 and 55 pound draw weight. That's 2 risers with 4 sets of limbs. They are very nice bows for the money. I hope this helps.

Cyber, I agree Dewayne. It's always best to start with a low draw weight and work up. It's not only better at helping them get the the basics down like form and release, but it's also a more enjoyable sport if you are not struggling with your bow just to be able to draw shoot it. You should be good with a 62 inch Sage. I shoot mine with a 30 inch draw length with zero issues. If I am correct with this statement when you get past 29 inches in draw length the additional 2 inches in bow length help with longer draw lengths. @@mikeford9176I generally use goldtip arrows. But they are hard to get longer than 31 inches locally. I would check out linkboy arrows on Amazon. Long delivery times but worth the wait. What draw weight are you going for with your bow purchase? I tend to favor 32 or 33 inch length arrows and linkboy bare shafts deliver at that length. . Depending on draw weight you can tune them easily by either weight inserts or cutting them down a bit. I have a video post that discusses this topic. I will help you any way I can. If you are just starting out I would go for a 30 to 35. It's easier to get the fundamentals down with lower draw weight. During the process you will build strength and proper form. I wouldn't actually say it's from heaven. Far from it, but for an entry level bow it's a solid shooter in my opinion. For anyone just getting into archery they really should start with a lower draw weight to build up strength, form and fundamentals. I think a fair amount of bows, not all but some, on the market today have stacking to some degree. The video is my opinion of the bow, and not meant to be taken as gospel by any means.
