A performance from the first Farm Aid benefit concert. Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp founded Farm Aid and serve on the board of directors. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

Sammy’s a serious guitar player. I saw him perform live with Van Halen on the 5150 tour in Philadelphia, and I couldn’t get over how well he elevated his guitar playing to Eddie’s standards. I almost couldn’t tell them apart. I was under the impression that Sammy was Van Halen’s singer & rhythm guitarist on the album, but it was plain to see during the live show that Sammy brought a second soliost to the band. Sammy brought a lot more to Van Halen than it might have seemed. To this day, 5150 is one of my favorite albums. 1984 and 5150 are equally the high points of Van Halen’s career, which wouldn’t have happened without Sammy Hagar.

I was sitting in the living room watching this with my sweet mother in 1985. When Sammy said this is for all you tractor driving motherfuckers out there my jaw dropped. I sneaked a peek at Mom and the look of disapproval on her face was something I'lll never forget. She's in heaven now.

Had the opportunity to see Sammy in 1978 in Boston - with Boston as the headline. Sammy blew away the audience , to the point that when Boston came on the chant was Sammy-Sammy....It was embarrassing- almost. Blew Boston off the stage in their hometown!! It was awesome!!!

yes, hi, I am 15, a guy. my Auto Shop teacher said that the speed limit used to be 55MPH on freeway's back in the 70's-80's. then, they reduced the speed limit to 60MPH on the freeways.

I played the show with another band and had the pleasure of bumping into Sammy and Eddie Van Halen at the food tent. This was the night Sammy was announced as the new lead singer of Van Halen. Problem was, he dropped the F-bomb so much TNN went off the air and nobody got the news until the next day. Killer stuff!

Awesome performance by the whole group. They were all rocking, kicking ass, & having a ball. They were cranked up for their hard driving, signature song. If it doesn't motivate you, Well ??? The timing of song was when all Americans were all restricted to driving 55 MPH to conserve gas because of the gas crunch in the early 80s.

On this day in 1921 {September 10th} near Berlin, Germany the Ayus Autobahn highway was opened to traffic. The highway's outstanding feature was its nonexistent speed limit... And 83 years later Sammy Hagar released the album 'VOA'; the first track on the LP was "I Can't Drive 55". The song peaked at #26 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 Singles chart. 'VOA' stands for Voice of America & was Sammy's last solo album before joining Van Halen... Mr. Hagar will celebrate his 66th birthday on October 13th.

Actually the correct statement is: David Lee Roth is a washed up has been. Sammy took care of his voice, Diamond Dave simply can't sing anymore as evidenced by the sing talking I heard at the Van Halen Concert I went to last year (and paid eighty fucking dollars for). Biggest disappointment I've ever had at a concert and I've seen Motley Crue perform with Vince so blown up that he couldn't even complete full sentences of lyrics.

..I agree..Sammy could sing far better than Dave when they were younger...now that they are old.. Sammy can still sing, and Dave can't..but wasn't it worth the $80.00 to see Edward play guitar live?..I would think so..certainly no more opportunity to see him play now.. :(

@@dyer2cycle From what I remember eddie wasn't feeling well (turned out he had food poisoning) that night so his performance was strictly one of those "let's get this done so I can get back to the hotel and try to sleep this off" performances you get from musicians who are sick but don't want to cancel the gig on short notice. He even cut his solo short so they could speed the show up. It was an extremely admirable attempt at giving the crowd their money's worth but it fell short and left a lot of fans disappointed.

What unplugged guitar? Sammy has a radio rig, you can see it plugged in from the side. The mix was just fucking awful on this song, his guitar wasn't loud enough on the middle solo and the other guitarist's vocal was way too loud.
