At this level of racing there have been instances where the top 18 qualifiers in a 24 car field were separated on the time sheets by less than 0.4sec. Grassroots Racing at its Finest! I encourage anyone who cares to share in this experience, to visit your local dirt track one summer evening. You would not be disappointed...

Brings back a lot of memories running 360s & 410s years ago. Never liked running these super slick small tracks . Preferred the longer tracks that you can throttle down on , just powering thru the turns high then carrying the wheels down the straightaway
@Kevin_7473 жыл бұрын
I retired from driving in 1996. You must have never run Eldora. With the right set up and track conditions it was a throttle down track when not driving in traffic.

I never understood why the front wheels are floppy like that ? What is the reason behind ?
@LewisPearceYaussy7 жыл бұрын
That is just how you drive a sprint car. Constant slide corrections. The wheel is not loose.
@Aesh-om2sz7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is floppy, the wheels moves when the driver doesn't turn the wheel.
@jayss107 жыл бұрын
It's not that it's floppy there are a couple of things that are going on that give it that look though. 1. The steering box is usually 6:1 or faster as far as the ratio goes therefor the slightest of movements or slack in the system are seen. 2. Keep in mind the steering gear is located by the driver and it connected by a drag link to the steering arm on the front axle. There is no centrally located rack up front inline with the axle like you do on your street car. So changes in the position of the axle from hitting bumps and such will actually alter the geometry alittle. There other things that can cause it, but those are to two that immediately come to mind.
@Aesh-om2sz7 жыл бұрын
@jayss10 thanks for the explanation :)

why does the wheel move so much. ive only watched sprint cars once before. someone plz inform me
@Howard.Stern.5 жыл бұрын
Gotta keep the wheels loose because of the constant movement of the dirt below. Tight wheels would lock up and cause you to crash or roll over. Loose wheels soften the momentum on the car when you are sliding. Watch something like the Chili Bowl midget racing and you'll see an even smaller track and smaller cars yet massively wobbling wheels as well.
@sanfranciscobay5 жыл бұрын

What is the red lever do? Brake?
@jayss107 жыл бұрын
Most likely the wing slider valve. If you lookup DMI Wing valve I bet that's what it is. The other possibility is a fuel shut off valve, but the color leads me to think it's a wing slider valve.
@raymond38037 жыл бұрын
Jay Dubs and Jayss10: The red lever is definitely the hydraulic wing slider valve. Notice he keeps looking up to confirm it's where he wants it. At 0:07 he reaches below the wheel and his left hand stays there until 0:13. You can hear the engine slowly lean out and gain RPMs. That's not his foot on the throttle, he's slowly closing the fuel valve so it doesn't load up on the start. Some drivers do this because it works, his engine really did jump. What blows my mind is I never see him reach back down to open it back up, after he gets going. Apparently he didn't restrict fuel flow more than what ever injector pill he's running.
@jaybilawchuk22257 жыл бұрын
Sweet. That makes sense yeah. My lifetime goal is to be able to do a lap or two in one of those!!

If you watch after the checkered flag (3:56) when he pushes the red lever forward, you can see the wing at the top of the screen moving forward. It appears he pushes it all the way forward, and then backs it up just a bit.
