I had the absolute privilege of seeing the original cast at the Shubert Theater a lifetime ago. I wept through the whole show, and sobbed through Sammy doing Paul's monologue. Thank you, Sammy for one of the most moving theater experiences I've ever had!!!

Hey Sammy, still missing you around the building, taking walks with you and Ricki. RIP my beautiful friend!

I think with all the other Pauls it is just so much more haunting. Its the voices in his head its him just talking to himself and all the people he talked to its scary yet beautiful at the same time gives it more emotion.

@Joefaragher this was the 3389th performance, the record-setter, and Michael Bennett reshaped it for one time only to include as many people who had done the show as he could.

Markie. I saw ACL 6 times. First time at Shubert I thought this is the dumbest show EVER. I was on vaca and hung over. Friends from a restaurant in Buffalo we all worked at got together to vaca in NYC and insisted we see it EVEN THO I DIDN'T LIKE IT. I relented and it was like I was reborn. Absolutely the best musical I have ever seen. So, did you play Buffalo or Toronto on tour? Saw it both times and even once in L.A. many years later. Congrats on being part of history with that show. Coincidentally buffalo public school system Michael Bennett at Bennett High and me at South Park H.S. He about 10 yrs b4 me.LOL.

This monologue must have been changed in later productions because I remember Paul alone on the stage.

I was supposed to be in that show but I was out of town and then it was too late. CRAP! Anyway, I wanted to see it several years ago but they have it locked up tight. I had to call Michael's lawyer and then bring my contract to show it was me. After all that the permission never come through to see it. Ridiculous!

No one knows what the hell you are talking about! You were supposed to be in it???? And over the years it was produced on stage across th U.S. Canada and around the world. Where are you that you couldnt see it? And the lawyer never called you back? Wonder why?????
