Sammy Hitzke Fishing

Sammy Hitzke Fishing

Күн бұрын

Ahoy Legends, This week we venture out to one of the most well known spots on the east coast to see if it still produces some great fish. Palm Beach reef. My crew for this trip is the Phantom and Shauno, and between the three of us we were hoping to get stuck into some spotted mackerel that migrate to these areas during the summer months. We opt to use a variety of techniques including spinning metal lures and floating back whole pilchards. After a slow start it isn't long before the reels start screaming! Hope you enjoy the episode!

Hey Sammy, I always use a piece of heavier mono or thick braid tied in a uni Knott as a float stopper. You can slide it up or down as far as you want. Used it for years float fishing with live baits off the rocks of Sydney. You can set it as high up the line as you like and cast the float and pillie if you need with no dramas. Weighted floats work a treat too. You probably know this trick but others may find it useful. Love ya vids mate.

I just use the wind on float stops does exactly the same just don't have to tie a knot lol
@mbnz0174
@mbnz0174 2 жыл бұрын
Agree. For that style of fishing, I'd just use the braid to leader knot as the float stopper and adjust the leader length accordingly. Too easy.

Yeah mate heard of that truck before, it’s a good one. Unfortunately it doesn’t stop the line sliding up through the float when tension is on the line which is what we need for the spotties 👍

Nev Howard told me 40 years ago to only use the tail half and Bury the hook on the lightest multi strand wire. Once I adopted this, I always out fished my mates. Use the head half as burley. I’m with Shaun!

Those are what we call Spanish Mackeral here in the States and they are the smaller cousins of the big King Mackerals. Fun as hell to catch and very tasty too! Right now all over both coasts of Fla the Spanish bite is on full on…….great time of year to cash in and stock up!!!😎👍👍
@cameronsharlen-robertson1068

A lot of people get the species of Australia mixed up with the American(and other parts of the worlds) species. In this case the Spotted Mackerel(Scomberomorus munroi) are a different species to the 'American' Spanish Mackerel(Scomberomorus maculatus). The bigger cousin ie; Kingfish/King Mackerel(Scomberomorus Cavalla) are yet again a different species to what we catch; Spanish Mackerel/Narrow-barred Mackerel (Scomberomorus Commerson). Spanish/Narrow-barred Mackerel are a wider bodied, bigger growing species. Some of the other species that people mix up, but are completely different are: The Australasian Snapper is part of the Sea bream family (or Porgy) but in a complete different genus to that of the American common species like Sheepshead, and Jolt head Porgy. Some of your Sea Bream species look like the emperor (Lethrinus) family found in Aus eg: Grassy Emperor/Sweetlip, Spangled Emperor, but are extremely unrelated. Mangrove Snapper (Lutjanus griseus) vs. Mangrove Jack( Lutjanus Argentimaculatus) are not the same species but are in the same family. With the rest of the snapper or Lutjanus species found in Aus, no identical species are found in the US. Yellowtail Kingfish(Seriola lalandi lalandi) vs. Yellowtail Amberjack(Seriola lalandi dorsalis), basically the same species however are different localities in which ours grow bigger African Pompano/(or what we call a) Pennant Fish(Alectis ciliaris) vs. Diamond Trevally (Alectis Indica) BlackFin Tuna(Thunnus atlanticus) vs. Longtail/Northern BlueFin Tuna(Thunnus tonggol). Longtail are a longer/bigger species. Jack Crevalle(Caranx hippos) vs. Giant Trevally (Caranx ignobilis). Just an all round different fish. A really big mix up is also the "Bonito' or False Albacore (Euthynnus alletteratus) and Mack/Mackerel Tuna(Euthynnus affinis), which are basically the same apart from location and some key features.

@@SammyHitzkeFishing yea Sammy I think we have had this discussion before and theres always someone jumping in and trying to explain the different species between US and Aus. Who gives a shit!
