Peterson openly and explicitly criticizes identity politics on both sides and has hours and hours of lectures on right wing identity politics, from nazi Germany to today's alt-right movement. But the guy comes from academia, which is completely dominated by the left and their identity politics, which I am also neck deep in and can attest to as a seriously pernicious problem. As a writing tutor, I am bombarded with papers justifying the murderous Marxist regimes of the 20th century. I constantly listen to students' arguments on gender theory and race theory and it takes me all of 2 questions for them to see how racist and sexist their papers are. I'm not saying there's no use to extrapolating data based on demographics, but to deny a person's individuality, their agency, and their humanity by telling them how they are oppressed, or oppressive, or incapable of thriving, or racist, simply by being part of a certain group identity is fucking toxic and stinks of an agenda. And to even suggest that Peterson doesn't address certain ideas or criticize real problems just because he wants to make money, well, I'll just say maybe you should try to expand your attention span to something longer than a 2 minute clip before you open your ideological mouth.

I think a lot of people who supported Trump were probably not that critical in their analysis of him, that does not mean however that they are of less inherent value as humans. In a democracy every citizen of age has a right to vote - so in that way, as with many other basic rights and values, we are equal as human individuals. As Peterson however often points out, we are however not all equal in many other regards. A lot of people in this country are ignorant of how our society is constructed and how it functions. Some of us who are not ignorant decide that explaining it is not worth the time and effort and instead seek to capitalize on mass ignorance. Others try desperately, almost hopeless, to further educate themselves and those who are curious to learn more. It is not easy however because people get far too emotional. They conflate their own self value and ego with their own supposed knowledge and opinions. I value intellectual curiosity and critical thinking far more than my own knowledge, opinions and ideas. I am not wedded to my current knowledge or beliefs, in fact, they can always be improved upon and furthered. That is the ideology we must pursue if we are to progress as individuals.

But why are those things "better"? Peterson announced on his Twitter quite a few months ago that he was putting together a list of leftists to debate because he wanted to debate one. He then never mentioned it again. Peterson also backed out of a debate with Richard Wolff. Peterson only debated Zizek because Zizek paid him lots of compliments online before hand and Zizek was only interested in softly disagreeing with Peterson while boosting his own audience. Seder would go after Peterson. Crowder let slip that Peterson has Seder on a black list. Wonder why that is? The IDW are a total paper tiger.

Have to say I agree with you. Trump was elected because he's an iconoclastic (false) prophet. There's a growing perception of deep systemic issues within the American democratic system--it's generally expressed as identity politics on the Left and a general distrust of (corpocratic) elites on the Right. The American system is based upon mutual cooperation and committee between parties (eg. southern Democrats having more in common with northern Republicans than with some members of their own party; further, the basis of having a committee system as a legislative branch). It isn't meant to be a 'Westminster' system wherein the primary check on power is an "Offical Opposition" that aggressively holds those that hold power accountable. Part of the problem has to do with media and how it expresses political issues. Generally, opinionated short soundbites that garner an emotional response are more effective than long-form, or thoughtful, media. The idea of 'wedge' issues is a useful one here--the soul of the system has become one. With regard to the current video, the reason there's no information here is reflected in hyperbolic attacks and general dismissiveness of both the video and the comment section. You'll be rewarded with positive feedback when you make hyperbolic attacks and any dismissiveness towards any deeper point is perceived as justified; it's the way the argument is being framed. A good example of this is that people will frame you as a Trump supporter and/or ridicule you as thinking you're better than them by not taking a side (for them, this is you being simplistic...sadly ironic). It's tribalism 101; they can only communicate with you by worming you into a predefined box...it's an ideological schema substituting programming for thinking. Edit: If you want a good criticism of Jordan Peterson, the narrowness in his perception of leftist academics was pretty apparent in his debate against Zizek. There's also a book *(The Politics of Myth: A Study of C. G. Jung, Mircea Eliade, and Joseph Campbell)* that deconstructs three of Peterson's main influences; the idea being that they were part of a cultural (conservative) zeitgeist reacting against uncertainty and progressive currents at the given time. The book isn't about Peterson...but if you're familiar with those writers Peterson's opinions are somewhat derivative. It's about 20 years old but it's extremely relevant to your cause. Another good book to check out is *Amusing Ourselves to Death* by Neil Postman. It's 35 years old but its read of media is even more true now than when it was published (just substitute 'television' with 'social media'). Hope that helped. Keep fighting the good fight.

I like words have always looked up words that I didn't know when reading, so I have a big vocabulary and I understand what he is saying and I like it. He has a couple different things he talks about - one of them is sex differences, which is totally uncontroversial in psychological literature. It's like footnotes from a Steven Pinker book. He makes it controversial, but it is mainstream stuff. The other is where he is talking about archetypes and common story motifs, and how he thinks there are clues in them about how to live a meaningful life. This is his unique thing. It is not as scientific as the sex difference stuff, but arguably more interesting. Or, you might not be into it at all. When I discovered him a few years ago it was this stuff that I found interesting. To each their own. Hitchens was fun. Both men are better speakers than they are writers imo.
