Finally a s20/ultra in the hands of someone who knows how to utilize it to its full potential. So funny how almost all the other reviewers compare smartphone cameras only based on the jpeg point and shoot images they take. Go into pro mode and really test the lenses/camera before writing/making a review.

Wow, I can't believe I forgot the metering modes! MY bad you guys...here's a quick explanation: Center weighted: This is where the camera only meters the light from the center and immediate surrounding area of the image. Better for back-lit subjects like portraits with the sun behind them. Matrix metering: This is the most common and usually default. It's where the camera meters off the light from the entire image. Spot metering: This is where the camera only evaluates a small spot of light, wherever you select it, and ignores the rest of the image. this is good for really small subjects in very back-lit conditions. Also, let me know if you want an actual video on just metering modes and if I get enough interest I'll make one.

I come from a Huawei P9 plus that gave me a great deal of satisfaction but I just moved on to a Galaxy Note 20. Thank you, thank you, thank you...exactly what I was looking for in a tutorial for the Note camera. There are times when you need to take a quick shot, but there are many times when I want a posed, carefully constructed photo and the pro mode allows me to do it. Of course, a mirrorless Sony does so much more, but when you're taking a walk with your dog and you by chance come upon something worth snapping, the mirrorless isn't practical for me or just impossible to always have around. The Galaxy is my substitute for those times when I don't have a mirrorless with me. Again, thank you.

Stumbled across you looking for tutorials for cannon I recently purchased. Thank you Brent for the instructions on use of Samsung as what I always thought was possible with my camera app you have shown me how to achieve my goals. I have the S10 which has all the same features but perhaps not as broad as the S20. I do a lot of hiking etc and I really don't want to add to my gear. Going to return the cannon eos I just purchased because I hadn't been able to find info previously as to how to take the star trails and silky water shots you describe here.

Awesome tutorial. I just purchased a Galaxy S20 FE 5G since my Galaxy J7 V was going a bit wonky. Your vid helped me a lot by filtering the tinkering time out. I majored in photography late 70s in college. Eventually had my own studio and dark room. Burning and dodging and contrast filters. Developed medium format color too. Once digital started coming out we all laughed. Pixel quality was horrible. So we believed digital would go the way of buggy whips. Now I have some $1700 in photography equipment in storage. If the 3 eyed monster camera only uses 1 eye, what are the other 2 for? Looks I guess.

I always use Pro mode even for snapshots. I want to look them as natural as they appear to eyes. I have yet to use a high end smartphone. I am still using Samsung Note 5 camera.

@@BrentHall I have a small question. All reviews say portrait mode is not as good as iphone because it does not give natural blur effect and does not use the 3x zoom like the iphone. I am getting the phone in a week so I wanna ask you, in the pro mode can I set the focus to the person I am shooting to get a pure natural blur effect on the background? Thanks in advance!!

@@VICTIMDIE Yes, you can do that in pro mode. Just keep in mind that you can't use the tele lens in pro mode, so you will either have to digitally zoom in or use a 3rd party lens if you want a more naturally compressed and blurred out background.

THIS is a GREAT How To video to show Users the advantages of using Pro Mode! I shoot with the Nikon D7000 (Manual Mode ONLY!) on the regular. Oddly enough, if it hadn't been for my Galaxy S9, my desire to recreate a nighttime long exposure traffic shot I saw on a computer screensaver back in May 2019, I'd have NEVER learned the fundamentals of photography and shooting in Manual Mode! I can't believe the S20 is 30" Shutter Speed-capable! Even with the 10" shutter speed, I can grab KILLER Night Long Exposure shots! Your S20 Astrophotography shot is BUTTER! You do killer work Bro, consider me SUBSCRIBED!

Oh that's awesome, I'm jealous! I hope the video helped. And just remember to watch your exposure lengths with the aurora, they can move kind of quick, so sometimes a longer exposure, like 15-30 sec will blur them out a little too much.

Thank you for the info Questions: When entering "Pro" mode, I see only "W" and "UW" lenses options. So no "Pro" mode for the primary or telefoto lense? Also, what is a good cradle to use on tripod for the S20 + with cover on it? Lastly, what is that filter you were pointing at that made the whole scene brighter? Hi Brent, I have installed the FilMiC Pro recently to my iPhone since it doesn’t come with Pro video like your Samsung galaxy s20 does. And it’s been really hard for me to take a video in low light while light emitting from the window. The hardest part is, I’m not been able to focus on both “inside the room” while focusing the subject “outside the window”. I really need a help on that part. So please help me with that bud.

Are you able to set the white balance to a custom one using a white balance card?

The main sensor also has a 64 megapixel high resolution output in auto mode. Does RAW mode utilize the 64 mp ?

Hi Brent, I own a Samsung Galaxy S20+. I want to achieve some nice Astro shots. I know there aren't any Universal settings so to speak but can you give me an idea of what the best settings are for Astro on S20+ Pro Mode ? Thanks bro BTW love your videos bro !

Hi Brent I came across your vid's by accident and I couldn't stop watching because I have a Samsung S20. I love using it to capture family stuff. But I have always been one of those guys who loves to learn about using the gear I'm using. (I shot high school football video years ago) Is there a video where i can be directed to that can tell me where to go when I want to shoot video with the S20 without a hot mic/audio track and just the video? Thanks, your videos awesome and hugely informative.

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that! I'm not quite sure what you mean, but if you're wanting to disable the audio in the phone, I'm not sure you can do that. You'd just have to mute it or delete the audio track in your editing app.

Thanks Adrian, glad I could help! Shutter speed is super important. Depending on the subject's speed, you'll want anything from 1/500 sec or faster. You can also try some panning techniques. I have a few videos action sports photography that would help as well, and one specifically for action sports with a phone, but the techniques are good for any type of camera.

Bought s20+ during the first wave of pandemic, at some offer price and I am like once this ends, I will start travelling again and take tonnes of pics. But now, there's this second wave which hit us hard and am still in the lockdown, can't go anywhere. But hey, thanks to you, watched your video, saved your video, downloaded your video, learnt the pro mode and hoping the lock down to end and hoping I could use all the things you said! But pro mode now works on ultra wide lens. Maybe that's coz of the update, not sure, this s20+ supports the pro mode in ultra wide lens too!

Yeah, lockdowns are a huge bummer for sure! Hopefully yours ends soon and you can get back out there. The S20 phones did recently get an update for the camera which finally allows for the ultra wide in pro mode (about time) but still no telephoto pro mode access?!? Anyways, glad my video helped!

You have played as much on the camera functions as I have on the pro mode! However do you have a video on how to make a still from video footage? I know the phone can do this function, but I am not sure how to do it myself.

I don't have a video on that. I've done it a few times with my bigger cameras, especially with the R5 in 8K. If you wanting to try it, then I'd suggest shooting in pro mode with at least 4K. Then set your shutter speed to a faster shutter, like you would for taking a still shot. That way you'll reduce the chances of motion blur if you or your subject are moving.
