In my last video about the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra I criticised Samsung for being boring. Not in general as I love what they are doing with smartphones in general and are actually more innovative than other brands. But when it comes to the S23 Ultra I did believe that they were going backwards.
I WAS WRONG! The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has suprised me in many ways in this initial review and I am sure it will continue to do so the more I use the phone.

I really dislike your videos! Why you ask? Because every time you make a video I can't resist and I have to watch it. Most KZfaq videos I "watch", most of the time they are just background noise and I'm not actually watching them. But with your videos I have to watch them carefully, because I feel I'm going to miss out on something. While watching your videos I do a lot of rewinding also, to make sure I didn't miss out on something important. The videos you make are very visually appealing. @Kurda Hsen lol...comment like this never stops coming, someone just gave his humble opinion about the performance of a phone and all you could say is that the person is being paid by the brand of the phone...like seriously!... I guess you should go tell that as well to all the tech KZfaqers who has gotten and used the phone for some weeks and did confirmed that the s23 ultra is an excellent and amazing phone with smooth performance, amazing battery life and good cameras as well. I wouldn't have typed all this if i hadn't gotten the phone myself. I have had the s23 ultra for a week now and i was blown away by the amazing performance of the phone, " Mind you, this is coming from someone who has used the note 20 ultra and the s22 ultra, but the s22 ultra ( exynos ) was a total failure and disappointment for the period of time i used it that i had to sell it off, the battery life was so bad that it will die by 2 to 3pm in the noon, the phone was always with lags, " in other words, the performance wasn't smooth at all, but all this changed when i got the s23 ultra. I know Samsung hadn't meet up to their standard for the past few years and so people had been so disappointed with Samsung phones, but this has changed with the s23 ultra. I did advise you go get your hands on the phone and play with it for few minutes and then come give your humble opinion about his review.

Another great video Alex, thanks for always keeping it real 💯 On the shutter lag, Samsung has moved the fast shutter setting, which has been on Goodlock Camera Assistant to the Camera menu, so options for anyone who needs it. I personally tend to use burst mode for moving objects by pressing the shutter button and pulling it down.

Finished your video Alex, and... nice review. I really like video footage from new S23 lineup, it is mostly same what I saw from iPhone. But that audio quality... it is absurdly great even outside. Looking forward my S23U copy :) Btw. that double acting scene was nice 👏

This is an A+ phone. All the right moves coming from the S22U. The updated gorilla glass is a bonus, slightly faster charging, noticeably longer battery life (i can keep 1440p and 120hz all the time now), the stutters in one ui 5, better cooling, added microphone at the bottom, better sounding/bigger speaker cutout at the top, bigger sensor/ois/ better video recording for 4k/8k, improved camera/shutter lag, improved front camera, no more weaker Exynos variant, a much-needed upgrade from flawed SD8Gen1, and a less aggressive screen curve, removed the red dot from the laser af for a more stealthy look. Complaints/nitpicking : - The same design (stop being apple) - 65w charging?! (keep up with android) - vivid is too vivid and natural is too flat, can we have a middle ground here - going from 40 mp to 12 mp isn't really "Ultra" - Support/make features from good lock/game launcher default (no one barely knows you can bypass battery charging when gaming helping the phone to stay cooler and preserving battery health) and prioritize speed/quality eliminating shutter lag.

You really nailed it! I feel exactly the same about the vivid color profile. The screen gets way too oversaturated, hard to tell what the output will be when recording or taking photos. And yes, I got a lot of stick for calling Samsung boring. But he wasn't a general statement it was more about desk design specifically.

Another banger video Alex. You have an amazing realistic vibe and give real experience and don’t just read off a spec sheet. So many complaints about what Samsung didn’t do with this device but yet when you look at the big picture they took care of the three biggest problems, battery, video and night capabilities and performance/cooling. Oh and the biggest thing is that now everyone gets to enjoy snapdragon 8 gen2 without the struggles of exynos. Keep up the fantastic work. Currently using my 14pm awaiting the arrival on the 13 my s23 ultra. I got a good price of 800 for my s22 ultra 522gb on a private sale so with the pre order goodies from Samsung I was able to get the s23 ultra for 400 usd at 512gb and two cases and a charging dock not a bad deal.

The front camera *does* use the same microphones to record audio, however, they capture it differently. Putting more of a focus on what's in front of the phone instead of back, to capture your voice over ambient sound. Hence why it sounds a little different and a bit more processed. I much prefer the sound quality when it's shooting from the rear, as it strikes the perfect balance of natural sound and noise suppression. It's really quite remarkable. The S23 not only captures better details in the audio, than the iPhone, but it also somehow, reduces wind noise too. All while maintaining the natural characteristic of human voices. I have to spend so much time in Adobe Audition to do a similar level of noise reduction at that level XD

Thank you Damien for confirming that, definitely agree with you! when I was mixing the audio for this video, using my studio monitors speakers I could not believe what I was hearing. I actually had to do some cleaning on the footage captured by my professional microphone plugged into the camera. But I didn't feel like I needed to do anything to the S23 Ultra's audio. Sure I could have applied some EQ and reduced some of the wind noise further, but it's so good that I decided to leave exactly as it came out of the phone. Mind blowing

got my SG s23 ultra today ; it is on the wireless charger now ( came in at 60% ) ; unboxing was exciting and uneventful ; but 2 things i got the screen protector film and it went on smooth and easy except for getting rid of the air bubbles along the edges they wont go away , instructions say wait over night and then try again ☹ second thing was inserting the sim card ; you insert the sim card tray pin to open it up , no problem , then you are to press in the sim card into the sim tray --- problem , the tray has a thin plastic piece towards the back of the tray that i assume is to hold the sim card securely in place --- wrong , the plastic piece being so new ( assumption ) it had little give to it and instead of securing the card into the tray it just kept popping it out of the tray 😠 ; nothing i did kept the card in the tray ; in frustration , i placed the card secured in the back end since it went into the phone first and just left the other end popped out ; "slooooowly" inserted the tray back in the phone making sure the card did not leave the tray and it snaped right in with no more problem ; once the phone confirmed the sim card was installed , the phone came to life and a message displayed saying the card has been acknowledge for your service provider and will now restart to configure it for your carrier . YEA ! ! ! 🥳 so the phone is working and it is charging --- the wireless charger is fast , phone came in at 60% and by the time i posted this comment it was at 80%

Fantastic video. Watched in 2160p on my Sony Xperia XZ premium. Crystal clear and i can see clearly the letter on your cap, LFC. Although i have the Xperia 1III and 1IV, i still like to watch you tube with my XZ premium. I think the original aspect ratio of this video is 2.00 : 1

That's the one I've upgraded from. I think 6 months ago I would say, definitely! But after the recent OneUI updates my Exynos actually got quite decent in terms of performance, feels much smoother than before. I'd honestly say that unless you really care about things like video recording, then the upgrade is not that worth it. Sure, it's a slightly more refined design but from the S22U the main differences are the cameras, especially for video in my opinion.

Not really, I think you can easily change the colour profile from natural to Vivid and vice versa to get cooler, warmer or more vibrant colours with both phones the same way

I think phones today have become great cameras that also make calls. I am not complaining really because I am very excited about how far smartphones have come in terms of video and other areas. Dear Alex, hi my name is Declan I live in Galway Ireland this is a phone I am looking at seriously 1) with the bloatware on it with the ui5 consuming approx.60gb and no SIM card slot is it definitely better to increase to 1 GB or 512 GB or how 2) how trouble some is the amoled curve screen with a screen protector and a case to protect it because the amoled screen display issues have been acting up with the high pixel levels giving such high pixel levels in order to honestly drop levels from burn issues honest opinion that is all I ask the truth on a phone so dear best wishes from Ireland cheers Declan 👍👍🙏🙏

Im using a 14pro and I'm pondering getting the s23 ultra just to have a Samsung on my roster. The less curved screen is enticing and the fact the the samsung is able to zoom into photos where as the 14 pro has issues with deep zooms.

Honestly if this was the s22 Ultra I would say don't bother, but I can genuinely say that I think you will enjoy it! Sure you might miss things like airdrop especially if you use a Mac, but the trade-offs are worth it

Thanks for your awesome review. Did you test the 8k video recording? That's a deal breaker for me. I won't say it's necessarily better than iPhone in video but the improvement is so drastic that if they continue at this pace, it could dethrone the iPhone.

To be honest, the audio recording has hit a higher quality standard than the video recording. The video quality is great! But it's not quite up to dedicated camera standard. However, the audio recording I would easily put up against my Panasonic or Sony! It honestly sounds like you have a boom, and is very comparable to your sound you are getting in your studio. No longer a thin and obviously "smartphone" signature. Well down. It's also yet another thing they have not mentioned anywhere on their website along with the improved speakers.

I will reserve my battery opinion after a couple of weeks as I learned it with the Fold 4, it takes a couple of weeks for it to adjust, optimise the apps that are not being utilised, updates, etc. etc... I normally take those tests with a pinch of salt as they dont really represent normal usage like taking the phone out, using navigation, making phone calls, etc. I will definitely include this in my next videos though 🙏🏼

You're gonna like my next video I think! Rigth now, to be perfectly honest I still enjoy the Fold 4 more for certain things. But the S23 Ultra is so smooth and the camera is just superb. So it depends what you prioritise. If you care about cameras, S23U is a no brainer as it's probably cheaper right? But for multitasking, gaming and having the ability to write on a larger display like a small tablet, then the Fold is of course much better.

When it comes to s23 ultra it is a great product with no argument. But I am confused. Really enjoying the z fold 4 with no more iPad! life. even on the market for windows laptop in order to get most benefit from the device with windows connectivity! As a travel agency partner I am traveling a lot and z fold 4 helps a lot while on the go with some cons! which are battery life & camera & app optimizations. On the other hand I am a hobby mobile photographer you may look my z fold 4 samples on hknspc this is where the confusion starts! but honestly once you are all in to folding side it is really tough to be happy with the regular form factors. Already activated the bell button and waiting for your next video!

S23 Ultra.....way better cameras and zoom better low light astrophotography as opposed to grossly Overpriced Fold and Flop with no dust protection , so so cameras way too fragile and too lacking $60 for an inferior S Pen with no Bluetooth

I also notice other review were not enthusiastic about this S23 ultra until I came across your video. Totally agree with everything you mentioned, eventhough I don't have the phone in hand yet. Too early to talk about that. In my experience, the phone needs a couple of weeks at least to adjust. Seems ok so far though, haven't experienced any issues and I've been really using it for these videos...

Oh thank you so much, these brands do let me down sometimes. But recently, Samsung have been amazing! I was not happy with them when they released the S22 Ultra. But the tab S8 ultra, the Fold 4 and now the S23 ultra have all been truly superb. Makes creating content a lot easier for me, because I genuinely love the tech 👊🏼

I had the same feeling with apple just tired of it. I had the s22 ultra but apple keep pulling me back, looked at the s23 and I think this is the one that will pull me away. Apple just doesn't seem to bring anything users can use in the everyday life. they both do the same text, call, and email it just seems s23 will be more enjoyable. yes, I traded the 14 pro and I still paying for it. I will miss airdrop, copy and paste from the iMac.

It's nice to keep ou rminds open right? But you're right though, certain Apple features are not easy to replace. Not impossible, but certainly takes a while to get used to. It's easier for me as I have access to both all teh time but I cna imagine how tricky it would be to completely switch to one or the other.

No, the display definitely is better than before, I upgraded from a Note 20 Ultra and that one has already a great display but I could definitely tell the first time I used the S23 Ultra. Right now I have both while waiting to sell the other one and I can for sure notice the difference when I go back to the N20U

Currently fighting the urge, I have. The pixel 7 pro, the note ultra 5g, and a surface Duo and as much as I love the pixel 7 pro I keep going back to my Note 20 ultra 5G on Android 13 because the experience is just so nice and I miss the MTP technology on Samsung pay, maybe not the right acronym

I know the feeling. If this was the S22U I would say, don't bother. But I am actually impressed so far. If you like the Note20 this would be a natural jump for sure. Having said that... the Pixel 7 Pro is an absolute delight to use!

My S23 Ultra has MST technology on Samsung pay. I just made a payment using that a couple of hours ago. It maybe region specific, but do check it out, as this time Sammy is releasing the same phone globally.

@@Kickenwing13 I did it like couple of hours ago using MST in Samsung pay. I have setup my credit card already in it. So I am sure that my S23 Ultra has it, but again like I said it maybe a region specific as I live in India. But this year Samsung said that they are releasing the same phone globally with no differences, so I believe it should be there in the US. But do check it once before you plan to buy it! I don't understand why are the big youtubers skipping most of the needed topics when they are reviewing the S23 Ultra. Even I thought that S 23 Ultra didn't had MST pay, but I was happy to see that feature returning when I was setting up my device. Its sad that these days most of the KZfaqrs don't cover majority of topics when they are reviewing the products and are bias. All the big youtubers are giving S23 Ultra a bad name and trust me I am really enjoying it. In fact most of the big youtubers also gave iPhone 13 mini's battery a bad name and I had no issues with iPhone 13 mini's battery. I was using 13 mini before buying S23 U.

People say they want the S23U to be much more than the S22U. It's smoother & loads quicker such as games. It has better screen on time, can play the highest game settings that even the S22U can't do in a game I've seen online (PUBG or COD I believe it was). The camera, particularly video & night shits were better. It has better heat management so should last longer in the long term. Less lag with the pen. Better chip and RAM. Twice as fast with read and write. Better speakers. The display has same max nits but is a better display.

Really love your innocence and honesty. Most probably the best reviewer on youtube,just plain honesty, and your down-to-earth attitude makes,it special. Before buying something I consider your REVIEWS first before buying tech. I'm due for an upgrade in February 2024.
