yeah its truly amazing the progress phones are making in cameras. I know for most people they arent going to want to fuss with lenses or even settings they just want point and shoot but using samsung as an example I feel like if they offered yet another tier of phone marketed towards photographers I would like to see what an s23/s24 can do if instead of multiple cameras it just had a singular larger sensor and had lenses you could put on almost like freewell but its better because its not lens on lens

You should try motioncam on the S23 Ultra. Open Gate 4K RAW, no processing, no sharpening, no noise reduction. Way more detail and a much more cinematic looking image out of the box. Also much better dynamic range (12 bit readout).

I dont have high end phone , but motioncam on my phone has crazy framedrop. It's that heavy on processor and storage. It can't be used for 1min+ without framedrop even on s23 ultra I guess

incredible as always Steven!!! Just a question! in video mode which it´s the difference between Full and 16:9? I thought full would be better, but I have seen that 16:9 really gets the total of the frame and better colours and contrast, I don´t know why if i select full the contrast it´s lower and the image worse. Which aspect ratio would you choose with s23 ultra with anamorphic lens? And if using a gimbal, It would be better also to turn on the digital stabilization of the s23? thank you!

I think that 3x telephoto lens may outperform s23 ultra. Buut since S23U offers pro mode, it will easily beat iphone.

@@lostalraedy the x3 lens on the 14 pro gave me so much trouble when I tried to use it with external lens attachments. Because the phone relies on the LiDAR sensor to switch between cameras automatically it was really a nightmare with using 3rd party apps…so if they add manual switch to the x3 camera it could be already great improvement lol

Steven with another banger of an upload, i gotta say the sony does pull out v crisp shots, but for most casual uses , the s23ultra doesn't do much worse considering you get a better more stabilised shot without needing a gimbal. love the content, keep it coming

Great video! Two comments: (1) 1.33x lenses for smartphone have quite reduced barrel distortion (and I think they're a better choice for this reason); (2) Beastgrip make, in my opinion, the best anamorphic lens for smartphone

Theoretically yes, but I show the 1.33x squeeze lens in this video for a comparison, and the 1.55x seems to have less distortion. Can’t say anything about the best grip, I have yet to try it 😅

I also got a Galaxy S23U and impressed with video tricks you show. I think I'm going to get not a Freewell case with filters but a simple clip for 52mm lens filters. Already got a Pitaka case and don't want to remove it anymore. As for video, to me the quality with lens is good but cannot be compared with regular camera. Lack of colors, too much distorted edges and less detailed picture are clearly seen here. It's not a downvote for S23U or lenses. But I'd compare this to iPhone as an example or any other smartphone.

I would start with ND 32, 64 when filming during the day with the gimbal to achieve some motion blur, in my opinion anamorphic lens will require a bit more experience and a tripod or gimbal for sure. 🙌🏼 As for the brands, I try different products from time to time, but most of the time use Freewell.

I think for cooking videos Anamorphic lens isnt needed, its better to use ND filter to control the exposure, for landscape videography though if you want to get anamorphic look then this lens would help for sure

I really like wide and ultra wide lenses and distortion also but cropping almost half of standard 16x9 TV screen? Make no sense. Many years ago I bought Raynox ultra wide lens for my Sony 576p camera. I'll try it for S23u and I thing that for horizontaly will be the same but screen will be filled vertically also.😎

Get 1.33x for sure if in doubt. Check my recent video on the new lens system with the iPhone 15 pro max, it’s supposed to work with the Galaxy too, I show 1.33 and 1.55 side by side there

steven Divish, If I could pose a challenge to you, that challenge would be to film something like festival aftermovies. I believe it would be challenging to do this (or try) with a smartphone, because festivals are places with a variety of lights, which we have no control over. I find it difficult with a professional camera, let alone with a smartphone. But what would the smartphone be? Whatever you want to use, be it the S23 Ultra or the iPhone 14/15 Pro Max, based on their latest smartphone camera review videos.
