On a "color circle" orange is the "complementary color" or "opposite color" to blue. They sit opposed to each other in the world of colors. Orange and Blue are, Green and Red are, etc. You can look it up. What that means is that if you put those "complementary colors" next to each other, they have the biggest contrast, and are instantly noticeable. That's why you have Green and Red traffic lights for example...and also why you would have an Orange armband on a watch when swimming in a Blue body of water (ocean, sea, pool, etc.). Why do you think lifebuoy's are Orange, or life rafts are Orange, or lifeguard floats are Orange. It's to have the maximum contrast to open water (which is usually Blue). So having said that, "style" is actually secondary, and it's irrelevant "who copied who". There is a clear primary purpose for the color choice, and all companies can use it.

I pre-ordered mine, $400 in discounts/trade in. I cannot wait to get mine. Personally I like the orange band just for when I go on a bicycle ride, 48 miles total, it's very visible. My current watch though, OnePlus Watch 2 is not as loud (or the Classic 6 I had) as the Classic 6 and the Classic 6 was not loud compared to when I had the apple watch ultra, the vibration and how loud it was, made it so that I never miss a notification. Judging by the size and speakers on the Galaxy Ultra, I'm sure this is the right choice for me, and I'm glad the battery could last up to 100 hours.

My comment for any Galaxy Watch Ultra: For those who are saying that the Galaxy Watch Ultra is a copy of Apple's Watch Ultra, search the Samsung Gear Sport. It looks exactly like that. If anything, it looks more like a Panerai Radiomir. The orange band, the button and titanium are from Garmin, but the button being orang is from Apple, though.

This video explains very well all the well consideration of Apple Watch Ultra and it’s so complete that nothing can be improved from Apple Watch Ultra, that’s why Samsung is using most of the features and design of it.

I totally agree with your main points. I brought up the same ones in posts on various forums, Hermès and Apple were later iterations. Not that Apple's looks are much to emulate. What is worthwhile about the Apple Ultra is the scuba dive capability down to 40 meters, which the Samsung doesn't sport. It just has the static 10 ATM rating. Hopefully Samsung's BioActive sensor and GPS will bring up the accuracy and precision on this generation of watches. Finally, leaving out the killer, signature Samsung feature from the Gear Sport, the turning bezel, is a mistake, at least in cold climates where gloves have to be removed for the UX unless relying totally on voice interaction.

It's not the way the case looks, it's the orange dial and the straps. Not saying who copies who, but both Apple and Samsung now have similar designs and that sucks because it's just less unique. They also went with a much closer Apple-like earbuds this generation too. Kind of lame. I liked the no stem earbuds they were doing.

I don't see why people care, even if they did copy. Also, when it comes to the extra button, Fossil did it before Apple and Samsung and, in my opinion, doesn't get enough credit for it. RIP Fossil smart watches

Nobody is saying that the GWU is an exact rip-off of the AWU but there are SOME things that took clear and obvious inspiration. E.g. - The Ocean band and Trail band look veeeeeery similar to Apples Ocean and Trail bands and even sport the SAME NAME - The Action Button... I mean "Quick Button" that performs "Actions" I'm not even making this up that's what they call it in the settings AND when you click the button, the whole screen goes orange with the name of the action that you have set, exactly the same UI as the AWU. Coincidence? I think not. - The 85db siren. Same feature, same way of activating it (by holding the Action, I mean, Quick Button) and again an almost identical UI as the AWU when using the siren. - The new sensors on the back look almost identical to Apples. Apple has been making some of the most accurate sensors in watches for a number of years meanwhile Samsungs have been terribly inaccurate (Watch the Quantified Scientist for evidence) so it seems that Samsung basically reverse engineered Apples and slapped it on the back of their watch. - The orange accents. Nobody OWNS orange I know but the Apple Watch Ultra had orange well and truly built into the design. Not just the orange watch strap but also the orange action button, the orange ring around the digital crown and even the orange background that shows up when you click the action button. Apple doesn't own orange I know but the fact that Samsung just did the exact same, even down to the orange background when you click the action button is just.....c'mon. Now to be clear I like that Samsung made this watch because it pushes the industry to continue to innovate and get better. It's competition. But I do wish Samsung tried a little bit harder to make it more unique and more "Samsung" rather than just emulating their competition.

The only thing that attracts me to use Samsung watch is its circular screen, as watches are meant to be circular.

Still no excuse to not include a rotating bezel!

Great analysis mate. I hate that tech people that know nothing about actual watches do this. I'm glad you pointed out the horology points and case design. Also, Apple weren't the first to release a more rugged smartwatch, Samsung did the same 2 years ago with the watch 5 pro, this ultra seems to be more of an upgrade and continuation of that model. And as you stated, the Frontier version of the Gear S line was the rugged smart watch of the day, whilst the classic was the mainstream everyday smart watch, so Apple have done all the copying here.

They Galaxy Gear watch made, the one with the camera on the band. Also came in orange.

Even the "black box" on aircrafts are also orange for the exact same reason. It's the most visible colour under water, which helps finding and recovering the device easily. I know the majority of isheeps are not educatable, so it's just pointless argue with them

I’m back to say the quantified scientist channel tested the health features of the Samsung watches and found they are pretty inaccurate. Say what you want about Apple but there wearables are actually reliable and actually work. Samsung can’t seem to put a decent heart rate sensor in their watch. That’s unfortunate.. cheaper isn’t always better 🤷‍♀️

The only thing I would like to be different than the current version of Galaxy Watch Ultra, would be a physical rotating bezel.....

Red displays have been a thing forever, way before Samsung or Apple. Its used for low light situations for preserving night vision and also being less visible to other people. The military has been using the concept of red light on lights and displays forever

The orange collar bands have been a staple for diving watches for decades but you can not use the Galaxy watch as a dive watch it has no dive computer built in also Apple had an orange band on the Apple Watch Series 1
