I've been looking for bigger vertical monitors to replace my LGs, and it looks like that day has come. Here's my setup with not one, but TWO Samsung Odyssey Arks and my review from a day trader's point of view.

Both the Ark and your LG monitors are 4k resolution. So you wouldn't get any more real-estate. To get more real-estate, you need higher resolution. The bigger screensize will just make the same amount of charts larger. The 5k LG 40in ultrawide might be better for you because it has more resolution vertically but it would have less horizontally (when standing vertically). Thanks for putting two of them side by side! I was looking to see if that would be a good fit for my setup. I think I'll just stick to one because of the size though.

Good to see this reviewed from a business/productivity perspective. I have a 6 monitor setup currently (two 16:9 stacked in the middle and four 5:4 old school monitors stacked on the sides), and realize that this would be a downgrade in terms of overall pixels from what I run. Windows is getting better with things like FanzyZones (PowerToys feature) to customize display zones on large displays like this - though it still isn't the same as having distinct separate monitors (e.g: sharing a monitor with a colleague in video conferencing software, or maximizing a video or game to only that monitor). The technology looks like it is getting close though... I'd love to get rid of some bezels and have a single display for my needs.

this is cool! may i suggest putting the monitors on a seperate table that the depth is just enough for the stands that is a little lower than your desk. then have them further away and a bit lower to take advantage of the size... also try to have the top part vertically stright while the curved part comes towards the desk making the edge flush with the table... they are so big you don't have to be so close to the monitors... also you might see less pixel size if they're a little further out... try and see :). Great video edit!!

What would make the monitors more "convenient" to use would be a set of heavy duty monitor arms that attach to the desk. Not sure if they make them for this size monitor though. However you can definitely make these work with the one horizontal and one vertical layout like you have in the background at one point. Nice set-up regardless. Keep up the good work!
@elvnmagi9048
@elvnmagi9048 Жыл бұрын
samsung provides a 200x200 vesa mount for this that still allows it to rotate from what I've read. So you could mount it on a rail spine floor TV stand, the kind with a flat foot or with caster wheels. That or a wall mount or floor mount. On caster wheels, you could roll the stands left and right to put the screens in portrait mode, or one landscape + 1 vertical or whatever. The stands mostly use push pin style poles like a patio umbrella though so height adjustment wouldn't be as easy. Still if you are sitting back at the radius or focal point of the 1000mm curve at ~39.5" view distance your desk could be apart from the stand where rotating in either orientation wouldn't be a problem.
@kaislate
@kaislate Жыл бұрын
With that size panel you should honestly be looking at truss mounting at a certain point like they use for events and concerts.
@elvnmagi9048
@elvnmagi9048 Жыл бұрын
From what I've used and been investigating, I'd use a floor TV stand - the kind with a foot or caster wheels for modularity. My other option would be one of the smaller standing desk models, on it's own as the screen/TV's own stand separate from my peripheral desk. That way you could still use the included stand but the standing desk would allow height adjustment. I think a few models are working on bluetooth connection so you could raise/lower remotely from your desk or hotkey it to a stream deck. Otherwise a wallmount or pole mount but those don't allow for adjustment if you change your mind where you want it.

Awesome video, looks amazing with two Ark monitors side by side😅 The reason why your user interface is bigger on the Ark is because it is still only a 4K monitor, just like your 43” screens. They are both using the same ratio. From what you tell me, you want to scale the user interface to make more room and make everything look smaller on the ark. Maybe your software supports this, like browser windows, where you can scale it freely to suit your taste.

@WhyKlef Жыл бұрын
The scaling as Sergio pointed out but also and as far as I am aware, the moment you split your input source with one of the Tizen other screens (KZfaq, browser, etc...) you HDMI source is being scaled down to 1080p, I haven't tested that out myself but this is what was heard from other reviews and the reason why I ultimately refused the monitor on delivery. Impressive to see two side-by-side nonetheless.

Try 8k resolution Samsung televisions and see if that helps your situation. I believe you would benefit. A setup you should consider is the 8k resolution Samsung televisions on a wall(choose however many you need) with a more focused desk setup. You can walk the wall of televisions showing far more info as each 8k resolution TV is 4x the pixels/data as 4k resolution. If you can do 4 8k resolution 55 inch(probably has to be 65) that's an insane amount of data. I did what you did but going to 85 inches and you just need more resolution. 4k isn't enough. 8k is just getting there.

Like the content man! Just a comment at around the 5:40 mark, you may have the right resolution and scaling dpi but you did actually lose half your pixel count going to 2 4k monitors versus 4 so do have less viewable information potential than previously for unscaled apps like your trading graphs.

Very interesting. I have been using a 43" samsung nu6900 4k 60hz (6100:1 contrast) VA in portrait mode on each side of whatever was my main middle screen (now a 48CX OLED) for years. A stream deck + a handful of stream deck addons for app and window management can do similar to what the ark's OSD window management can do, or better imo, and has been able to for years now. That is, at least within the window environment and what inputs you can put into your pc. Since the ark can't do more than one hdmi input at a time it's multi screen isn't that useful. I also wouldn't opt to use a TV OSD web browser for security reasons and quality of life addon reasons so that's another ark OSD input/window that is out the door. I can set up my side screens to tilt downward very slightly and then use my chair's full head and neck support to tilt the chair back very slightly to a micro "sniffing" position. Over a ~ 39.5" view distance (the focal point of the 1000R, 1000m radius curve), or across the 40 to 48" view distance I use with my 48" oled, that allows a better viewing angle for the tops of the screens across that distance. I'm still interested in an ark as my main media and gaming screen in landscape mode primarily, just not at the current astronomical early adopter price. I really don't need the speakers either as I have a receiver for surround sound at my pc + some high quality headphones, so paying for those speakers for nothing in my case. I could still flip one vertical between my 43" tv "two towers" with gap between them all. (55" in 16:9 landscape, 3840x2160 resolution:~ 47.9" wide, ~27.0" tall viewable). So that's a ~ 48" gap minus the 27" wide screen in portrait mode = ~ 10.5" gap on each side while rotated unless I move the side 43" screens together on their monitor arms). I just wanted to say I've been able to do similar or better windows management and app controls via a stream deck for years, and vertical monitors with that type of control is nothing novel to me. I still think the ark is a great size vs curve radius vs rez. At the ~ 39.5" view distance of the radius/focal point it still gives ~ 61 PPD which is just above what I consider the minimum for massaged text subsampling and aggressive AA t compensate enough vs text fringing and graphics aliasing. So samsung balanced the ark's proportions and specs well. A smaller screen would have a higher PPD but would have lost out of the immense immersion at 1000mm. A larger screen (or sitting to close to the 55 ark) would have been too poor of a PPD, sub 60. So the ark is pretty much the limit imo until we get 8k screens.

Great video! Beyond zooming out of your trading browser (I assume it’s a web browser but idk anything about trading), if you have an nvidia card you can try dsr in the nvidia control panel settings (dynamic super resolution), and run your panels at a higher than 4k resolution and get even more screen real estate that way (I believe you can go up to 8k)! I do this with my 1440p display to get 4k scaling for productivity, while it can sometimes add a small amount of blur to text, you can mitigate this with built in sharpening/smoothening, I recommend giving it a shot for your use case.

Also windows iften scales up high resolution displays by default, and may be displaying content at 125% or 150% scaling, but what you want is 100%. Change this in the windows display scaling settings, should be able to find it in the same place you change your resolution.

Both monitors are the same resolution. The originals being 4k and the Ark being 4k. The Ark has a larger screen with the same resolution that is why everything seems bigger. Its a bigger screen. The curve wouldn't have anything to do with it. 3840x2160 on both monitors. The old monitor might also look sharper since it has more pixels per square inch. But at 4K at either screen size PPI isn't a very big deal.

So I have a suggestion, I find that large displays and especially large curved ones require you to offset the monitors from your table. Hear me out, you need a shallow desk around 15 inches. Now your monitor needs to start below the table line, at least 1/3 of the monitor needs to be below your table in front of you. edit: Needs to angle up towards you To best test this method out is to setup a standing desk in front of your existing desk and stand up. It's much more comfortable and is more much more ergonomic than how you previously had it setup. The same goes for your existing setup, since you're using such large displays. You won't need to crank your neck up and down. Also, two of your vertical displays flanking the sides of the Odyssey Ark in the middle seems to be the sweet spot.

The issue is that, at the same resolution the 40" monitors use, you're essentially taking that image and "stretching it" to a 55" monitor, even when using the "proper resolution and scaling". To fix this, you'd need to go into Window's settings, scale DOWN a bit, until the image was the same PHYSICAL size between the 55" and the 40". That would get you the screen real estate you want. Regardless, great video, the intro was hilarious, thanks for the content and the review.

what you want is a true 5k (not the 5k2k) or 6k, or even 8k monitors that are big TV sized large to get more of the height real estate. I also use 4-6 portrait panels, but 1440p only which is not wide enough. So I was looking into upgrading, but haven't seen what I want on the market yet.

LOL I just finished setting up my dual 49" curved monitors stacked on top of each other for my home office. Took me 5 hours to do because I had to build the L shape desk as well. I want something vertical for my office at work though. This ain't going to be it, but nice set up with them haha

If they continue with the ark line I figure the next version will be better and no the price to feature ratio is not there for this go around.

When the Ark can display multiple external sources ( at the same time) , then I'll consider two or three if them.

I know in windows you can adjust your resolution to what your video card can do, but on a mac I use a program called EasyRes and I'm able to use a resolution that wasn't intended for mysetup. It uses more resources, but it's worth it. It's sad PC's won't allow you to do that. With a beast system, I'm sure your computer could handle 7680 x 4320 (8k). My macbook is running at 1440p and can max to 4k, but it has a built i graphics card and is 6 years old. It's native reso is 1080p.

If you already had 4K monitors, then unless you go up to 8K resolution, by going bigger, you don’t gain any extra screen real estate. Just all bigger and easier to see like you found out…

when you use for example two hdmi cables from your pc to the one connect box, it should be possible to put a second "pc monitor" into this split view, as it's just another hdmi input for the monitor. same for three.
@foff-666
@foff-666 9 ай бұрын
the screen only allows ONE hdmi input at once -- so it can either take up the whole screen, or 1/3's screen -- the 'other slots' can only be internal options like the inbuilt youtube player or browser etc.

I really wish they'd have allowed multiple inputs and did away with that "One Source + 2 Built-In Apps" bullcrap. I use those kinds of features for work DAILY, and not having it, means I won't be buying this monitor. It's such a shame really, because I feel like this could have been a powerhouse.

Microsoft Powertoys will create zones that act like different monitors. You can drag a window while holding shift and it will resize to whatever zone you created whether a 3x1 grid or whatever. This should be included with windows, but it is a free download so... And yes having the same number of pixels but larger will make things larger. You can try setting dpi settings to higher that will make things look smaller (or the same size as on the 42 inch TVs) and thus will be able to display more information. Remember though that less pixels are being used to display information at the same size as the 42 inch screens so although you'll fit more information on the screen it will look less detailed as less pixels are being used. What you were thinking is like going from a 27 inch 1080p screen to a 27 inch 1440p or 4K. Which has more pixels so to draw the same information with the same number of pixels it appears smaller on the screen and you can display more information in the same amount of inches because the pixel density is higher. No worries as I know it's a weird concept to wrap your head around if you're not in the tech space. It's one of the hardest things to explain to consumers who are upgrading displays. Overall the Samsung display is cool, but the limited splitting options like you mentioned in the video makes it a handicapped experience for sure especially for non enthusiasts that don't know software workarounds. The LG DualUp monitor recently released I think is much more useful as far as non standard looking monitors go.

The monitor layout feature is more for having multiple input devices as opposed to solely windows. Powertoys is sick though, very handy when in Windows itself.

sorry but what if I want to use 2 pc? Are you suggesting that streaming at 30hz is a smart move?
@kaislate
@kaislate Жыл бұрын
@@marcofeigenbaum1917 for gameplay 60fps is a pleasant experience for viewers to watch if your game is also being played at 60 fps or higher. It will automatically up your stream quality feel over every other 30fps stream. No, I wasn't referring to any of that in my post, but that should answer your question. If you have a 2 PC setup you should be able to stream 1080p60 or 932p60 pretty easily. Remember everything in the chain has to support that though including the game, the capture card/method, and the OBS stream settings. Then up the video bitrate to 6000 and set the audio to 320 bitrate in OBS. I still can't wait for twitch employees to actually do work and enable AV1. It would save them so much money and it would be less strain on our PCs for streaming.

Nice video! Btw, you only gain screen space if you increase the resolution. If you increase monitor size but keep the same resolution, you will still have the same screen space. everything is stretch to fit the monitor size. The size of the monitor doesn’t matter as you saw.
