Hey Joe. I can't believe I tolerated the ice situation for over a year but somebody told me I needed a whole new front panel costing a fortune. So happy I found your video. Bought the part online and followed your instructions. We have ice again! Thank you is much for posting !

I agree! Very helpful. I found it really hard to try and remove the paddle. Once I realized there were two plastic tabs holding it in place, I slid a kitchen knife between the paddle's plastic and the metal and cut away the two tabs. After I did that, I was able to easily slide out the paddle. ONLY do this if you're replacing the entire paddle-if you're repairing and reusing it, don't do this. I automatically assumed I'd be replacing the whole paddle unit. Luckily, the piece of plastic that clicks the ice button (in the paddle assembly) snapped off clean and I was able to use Gorilla Super Glue to adhere it in place and it works good as new. I wanted to throw it out there for those who don't mind taking a chance and saving dough in the process. Thanks Joe for the quick How To Video.

Thanks so much for posting this video! I was afraid I was going to have to break something to get to the paddles, but did as you said and it popped right out. When I popped out the panel and the paddles, a little piece of plastic fell out. Turns out that the switch on the ice door did not fail, rather the small piece of molded plastic that activates the switch broke off of the paddle. I epoxied it back on, and its now working as designed! What I can't believe is that the manufacturer would trust an essential bit of their $3000 appliance to a cheap piece of molded plastic.

Thanks Joe! Our water wasn't dispensing. Thanks to your video we were able to pull off the unit without damage to the fridge and get to the blown micro-switch that controls the water. Pulled it off, taking pics to be sure the wires are connected again correctly. Thanks to my husband who is a bit of an electronic nerd, he has micro-switches from other electronics parted down to replace it. The aluminum screws used in the original installation were heavily corroded, so we pulled a couple of matching replacement screws that won't corrode from his collection. They evidently hit the connector with a point in production that made it so you can't fix it. Off to Ace to get a new one. Let your daughter know she has an awesome dad helping us DIYers. Saves a lot of money if you can figure out how to fix it yourself! It'll be great to have the water dispenser working again!

Thanks for your video. It helped out a lot. One thing I had to do was to run my utility knife along the joint between the old clear plastic part and the grey part to loosen the calcium. I also had to put a couple of picks on the rear end to lift off the little plastic "pegs" that kept the old part from sliding off. Then, I pried it from the top with a screwdriver and with gentle persuasion, it began sliding off. Took me about 30 minutes total. I didn't bother removing the power to the fridge either. I figured that the part I was removing was just a switch and a display board. Most of it should be low voltage and should not affect the motherboard's functionality. Thanks again.

Hey Joe! Worked great for me! Little tough to pull it out of door, but like another viewer stated, I too felt I was going to break something. I applied steady pressure and increased it as opposed to yanking on it - worked well. I was glad to see the small previously broken plastic lever from the ice paddle fall to the floor - for now I know that nobody had swallowed it! I used a dab of plumbers grease on the five tabs during reassembly. That way the next homeowner won't struggle as much during the initial removal process! Thanks again.

Thanks so much for this video. I had the exact same thing happen to my ice paddle. Now, I just need to research the part so I can order it. I am in the process of pulling the panel off and I am afraid of breaking it because it does not come off easy. Ashley cracked me up in the middle of the video. The hardest part was getting the paddle assembly out of the panel unit. I had to use a rubber mallet and beat it off, it was on tight. Everything works like new now though. Thanks again.

Thanks for the video! Saved me $350 + repair man cost. I followed your instructions and it worked! Part cost $100. Tip for us girls: to take the paddles out was a nightmare, but I used a flat head screwdriver and a mallet and there are actually some slots for the screwdriver to fit in and I gave it a good few hits with the mallet on the screwdriver and I was able to get it out! And another tip, be careful as when it slides out, the part for the crushed ice comes apart too and there are little springs in there. I had to do it twice as the first time I assembled the crushed and cube buttons weren't working. So I took it apart again and made sure the springs were back in place and now everything works again! Hooray! Thanks Joe!

Thank you Joe. Your video gave me the confidence to do this. (Listeners, watch all the way thru, then run video pausing as needed). I appreciated your cautions, and the closeups of the procedure. Nothing was left out. One listener cut the tabs, which, YES, the assembly could be removed, however that destroyed an additional secure measure the mfr created.

Thank you!!! Anyone trying this, note: it takes some strength, so it took me some time-I’m a small framed woman-pay attention to the tabs that hold it in place. You may need an assist . This is not an easy slide in. My fridge is 9 years old, so over time it can get worse to try to disassemble. I suggest taking a picture of your wires before disconnecting. I engaged the child lock as suggested in the video too, just in case the water would have come out. Thank you again for posting-it is great to be able to fix something yourself!

Thanks for making the video saved me probably $400-$500 who knows what they would've charged to replace this . My paddle plastic piece also broke off the ice maker side . I bought whole unit Incase something else fails since mine is about 15 years old . Removing the paddle was very hard I used a metal putty knife . I slid it under the front and hit it with a hammer until it slid off . If you want to save yourself a headache buy the whole part new $200 . The paddle is about $80 plus tax delivery and is not worth saving $80 . A contact may go bad or light or the screen then you have to buy the whole unit anyway .

Thanks so much for this video. My son and I replaced the assembly in about 20 minutes. (haven't had ice for 5 months!) Hardest part was sliding the old component off the display panel once we had removed the dispenser from the door of the refrigerator. We used screwdrivers as wedges and a hammer, then resorted to force- not sure if that is what the comment below if referring too, (about using dimes for wedges) but unfortunately we failed to read that until after we were finished. There is a small hammer type piece that presses a button when the ice paddle is pushed, and that "hammer" is what broke on ours- we saw it fly out and into our drink one day when dispensing the final glass of ice. So it is more then a bit aggravating Samsung, when after spending $72 for the new part, we see that the small mechanism that broke originally is still being made out of cheap plastic! Thanks for your help Joe- glad to have ice again.

you can insert 2 pennies in front of them after prying up w/ a little screwdriver = then slides apart (it's like needing 2 people to turn the nuclear keys apart from one another, the way the tabs seat... so un-seat them to slide). The "green tabs" are referred to in this other piggy-back video: @

Thanks Joe. This is the only good information on replacing the dispenser levers that I found. Couldn't have done it without you. The only thing I can add is that I wasn't sure if it was the paddle levers, the auger motor, control panel or electrical wiring that wasn't working. But now I now that on a working set of levers, you can hear the small switch click as you push either the ice or water lever in. If you can't hear the click, it is likely that the switch is broken and that you have to replace these ice/water dispenser levers. Turning on the ice/water child lock first makes it easier to hear this clicking noise.

Hi Joe... thanks for the video... I found the part at J & J International. Removing the paddles was tough. I ended up using a knife to slide up from the bottom from to pop the two lower catches. And I popped the top catch as well. Then it came up but the bottom latch broke (a little Crazy Glue fixed it). Taking the paddles out again was difficult. I noticed you cut away while you removed them. There's two little dimples at the end that have to be popped out. Once I did that it came out... It's working again thanks to your video.

Thank you! It was hard getting the unit out of the fridge and even harder to slide the clear aplastic paddles out. Took two of us (my wife and I) to punch it out with a mallet since it would not slide out due to calcification. For some reason the water paddle now serves ice and the water paddle is the ice. I reconnected the wires correctly since one is 4 pin and the other is 5 pin so you can't swap them even if you tied.

I fixed the paddle with $0.95 part from Ace Hardware (Hillman thumbscrew 582-D (12) - 10-24 x 3/4") that I filed down the thumbhead to match what was needed, drilled a hole for it right where the arm was broken off. The tricky part is choosing the angle to drill just right. I missed it a little. Someone can do it just a little better next time. Also be sure to put painters tape on everything you want to not scratch so your wife will not remind you about the scratch for the rest of your life. Joe, Great video on how to take it apart. My wife saw it and wanted to put painters tape on EVERYTHING and I am sure this prevented scratches when I took the screw out and then put a very thin knife in the right hand side where the tabs are and then we got it out. The ice lever arm was missing having been broken off. Sears wanted me to spend $45 for the 9-4 sub=sassembly to replace it with perhaps a better design or the same. Maybe they think most of us can't take things apart that were assembled by humans in a plant. We can!. Perhaps I could do better and fix it in just a few hours from start to finish. If I failed to find a clever way to fix the broken arm then I will order the whole thing like Joe did and be done. I took the broken paddle minus the arm and a photo of the missing part from another video and to ACE hardware and asked the ACE man what he could sell me that would allow me to attach something that would do the job the arm was supposed to. I was shown some 10-24 bolts that had thumb heads on them and purchased several lengths for just a few dollars. He said I could grind off what I did not want from the head to make the right shape to match what was there. I used a file to do this. First one has to carefully take the paddle assembly apart with out breaking more things. I took the ice paddle off, taking photos of how the springs were located in the little holes. I then took the metal front and rubber insert off the back of the paddle to keep them from being scratched. I took the paddle and taped it all up with painter's tape and then went in workshop. I put the paddle on the bench and drilled a hole where the arm was that was just a little smaller than the bolt I purchased. I then screwed the bolt in the hole and it self threaded and then I put the sub assembly back together to see how close it would fit. I had to turn the screw in and out to make sure it was at just the right place. I marked what metal needed to be filed off and then took the bolt back out and filed away what I did not want. I put it all together and it almost worked perfectly the first time. There was too much gap in the distance from the arm to the switch point. There needs to be NO gap so the ice will be triggered to come out first before the water switch is triggered. I realize now it would be better to error on the side of pushing on the switch too far too soon since you can then file off some of the metal of the replacement bolt to get it just right. I added a tie wrap to take up the space I chose to put it back together to see how it all worked. The dispenser works but the switch is staying on since the tie wrap is sticking in the little pocket above the switch. I need another way to take away the gap. Now that I have figured out how to fix the samsung broken lever arm with < $2 of parts from ace someone can improve on this and get the angle of the counter drill hole just right and do it a little better. I works but I need to take it out and trim some plastic another day. We are wanting to watch the game that is on. The Hillman thumbscrew 582-D (12) - 10-24 x 3/4" is what I'd recommend. Buy two and you can relax when filing the first one. Right now it is a little sticky. I took photos of the job along the way but must admit I could not work and take as good of video's as Joe did. I enjoyed seeing Ashly ask if we could leave just like my kids would. If someone wants to try this please do let me know and I'll send them some photos. HBFLOTEMERSCH@gmail.com I didn't feel like editing a video to post but took photos of the important parts in case I needed them for someone later.

Thanks Joe, my ice flap was getting stuck when you pushed the tab for ice. Ordered the new part and with your video had it swapped out in about 30 mins.

I wished mine took only 30 minutes. If this ever happens again I'm buying the whole until! LOL

Thanks for the video. Saved us a bunch of money but I'd like to point out when removing the paddle from the mother board we had to use a tiny screwdriver to detach the little tabs at the end before sliding out. Wish I could be more specific but hopefully someone will figure it out. The mallet didn't help. It was loosening those tabs then slides right out.

Joe thank you for posting this...never thought when I went searching that the first video would be from someone I used to work with when we were Spartans. Halfway across the country and half a life time ago.

Thanks for the video Joe. Not sure I would have been able to figure that out on my own. Took about 15 minutes to change out. The only issue I had was getting the old part to slide out It has a small bump on the end of each side that keeps it from sliding out. Had to take a screwdriver and pry it up on the end before it would slide out. Everybody is so happy to have ice again!!

Yes, sliding apart is a challenge --> you can insert 2 pennies in front of them after prying up w/ a little screwdriver = then slides apart (it's like needing 2 people to turn the nuclear keys apart from one another, the way the tabs seat... so un-seat them to slide). The "green tabs" are referred to in this other piggy-back video: @

Thanks Joe! Only tip would be maybe including a comment in your description telling how to clear the error codes that came up after I turned the fridge back on. It didn't take long to Google it myself but it would be awesome to have that tidbit right here too.

This was great, thanks Joe! Pulling off the control panel wasn't as hard as I thought but I was expecting a fight. I would never have had the nerve to pull that hard if I didn't watch this video though.

Joe you were absolutely right, it was HARD to pull off. No way i would have pulled that hard unless i watched you do it first. Rather than pay for and wait for a whole replacement part, i followed another fellow's lead and bent a small sturdy piece of wire to replace the broken "plastic switch actuator thingy". I drilled a tiny hole in the "stump" where the thingy broke off and used epoxy to secure my new wire piece in it's place. I will post some pictures if i can figure out how. Cheers
