Have been using mine since September 13, 2017 and the results have been generally excellent. We take so much for granted in this age but I still marvel at seeing my 360° videos with decent sound of those events I want to commemorate.

What a really creative way of tackling the pros and cons of the new Gear 360! I'm loving my "old" Gear 360 and I wouldn't be upgrading soon.. But the real 4k and live video would be lovely. Great review! Keep it up man

I think the way OnePlus used 360 video for their product launch is pretty interesting where users are able to look around freely but at the same time follow the presenter while he interacts with the audience, giving the experience that the user is really there.

I really want to get a few of these to use at weddings. As a photographer the constant challenge is to anticipate what the meaningful shot will be. Sometimes it's the obvious bride and groom but sometimes it's great aunt Edna sitting in the opposite direction who died a week later (This literally happened to me) Particularly for the reception where you simply can't be everywhere and it's hard to capture the natural moments which mean the most, having one of these on each table or something would be great!

Great summary. I'm getting my new Gear in a few days and can't wait to test it out. As for your point on what we should be using 360 cameras for, my opinion is that they should be used as a window for other people to experience what we experience (as much as possible). I think their future is linked to the success of VR, but being able to record an experience, like walking through a rain-forest, in 360 degrees is always going to be more thrilling for the viewer than using a normal camera. I guess in some ways 360 cameras are best saved for the most 'interesting' experiences. From my experience I also feel that vlogs where a person is talking a lot does not fit well with the format. 360 video is much more about seeing rather than listening.

I liked the BCN 360 vlogs, and I also enjoyed the Pnweekly, although for the weekly as you also pointed out a automatic "follow the sound" system would be amazing. For myself, I guess it would be joyful to take it on vacation, it will be the end of the "did I framed that photo right" lol

I will be getting this camera with my note 8. And one idea I had for 360 videos is I have a boat which we do tubing with. It would be cool to get the reaction of the people in the boat when someone gets thrown. But one concern had was mounting capability. Glad to see it at least has the standard camra screw on the bottom.

It would be really cool if they were to create an outdoor weatherproof security camera version of this product. Wifi enabled would be a must but the could probably even build it into a LED light bulb for power. Cool idea. They are almost there.

For how long can you record video at max res without stopping?

I got the original and like you said I had to rethink a lifetime of photography and video filming. It's weird going to a vantage point and just holding it up instead of the usual spinning around or something. Still, I'm excited to film more and more with it.

Good review (yes i know it is old by now...) ! When it comes to features with 360 it has a lot to do with playback i think: 1. In the instance of the podcast - if the playes could be set to focus on the person speaking (may require 3d sound as well) that would be great 2. Capturing events - maybe leave out the person holding the cam - i.e. a cam that takes images around you (sure you can mount it on helmet, but....)

I am thinking of buying it for some concerts, is it worth it in concert halls as i dont want to buy it just to find out that all i could see are running dots on stage

Although it is not necessary, can you use multiple cameras at once? Switch to different locations...or have multiple cameras set up for the ultimate surround view experience....if that makes sense?

can it be mounted upside-down and will the software/hardware automatically flip right side up? I'm thinking about mounting it under a drone attached to a gimbal.

I'd like to mount a 360 video camera to an RC lawnmower for use with Samsung's headgear and Galaxy 8. What is the range of this camera to the phone or WiFi? If I use the headgear and rotate my head will the screen window turn with me, or must I swipe the phone to get the video to turn to the right or left?

you didn't talk about the battery, I have a 1st generation gear 360 that I use on my motorcycle and I can change the battery. The Gen 2 you can't change the battery kinda sucks.

Think most people bought (or got free) the Gear 360 to use with their Samsung phone. So, to me the only limitation is that everything you capture is ultrawide angle, like using a fisheye lens all the time. I'll use this for a few "360" shots to edit in with traditional stuff. Thanks for the video.

I just got one of these and it will not save any videos or pictures. The camera pretty much freezes after hitting the record button on either the actual camera or in the app on the phone. Any suggestions?

Pocketnow, I must say I see this review as very excellent. I think the content has a lot of potential. Question though, is the 4K video very crisp? Does the 4K footage seem stable? In other words, is is it 30p, 60p, or better? My concern lies with if I am carrying it out and shooting video, will it blur at all or does it have good stabilization abilities?

Cool, how long can you shoot video til it overheats? I've been getting about 20 minutes before the Samsung Gear 360 1st gen overheats and shuts off.

if I google Samsung S8 360 video, I only get Gear 360. There are many many many 360 camera's on the market right now. Can I choose ? Do other, maybe better, more expensive camera's, also work with the S8 ? (and have better results ?)

Does anyone know of a good way to mount this on the head? Most of the GoPro type set ups place the camera by the forehead. Something like this would best be mounted on the top.

Maybe the army (Seal teams) could use a Gear 360 Cam (MilSpec) during special operations especially with the live 360 feed that can be connected with central command. This way they can evaluate the operation real time and they can save lives by observe the environment for the soldiers as an "extra eye".

I am going to be buying this 360, hopefully this weekend. I am new to photography with a significant investment recently into my DSLR and Video set up, equipment and such. I am primarily using all of that for my son's athletics in high school. I do not have top of the line production eqt. but also didn't get simple entry level either, despite being a total newbie. I have barely learned settings like shutter priority, aperture etc BUT do not have nor know what is going to be my software editing programs etc. Certainly that will apply to this 360 as well. I'd love to bounce some video/pictures off you guys for input and mentoring. I will be using this 360 additionally on the side to capture in flight video on medium sized remote controlled helicopters and airplanes. I have a fleet of those with quads as well. While I've video taped flying with all those set ups prior, I've not taken any 360 degree as of yet. It's a remarkable different style when zooming thru the sky on a plane and you're able to see the wings, prop's or jets etc. Taping with my helicopters and getting the large or small main rotor and tail or cockpit and or landing gear etc., depending on model size, is also a very cool perspective. I do fly recreational style 3D, meaning inverted with heli's and planes as well, so my videos aren't just easy slow circles in the sky. I'd love to send you content for advice etc as i mentioned. You would be free to use it on your site as well. This is just an idea if you're interested. I'd love to get your take. In this video you mention people wanting more or different 360 styles. Perhaps taxing, taking off in a parking lot, zipping around the neighborhood or local hills etc may add to your sites volume if you desire. Thanks in advance.

I still see some fish eye in the stitching, they could for the next model, use three cameras shooting a 180 , that could make it less fish eye, and even more awesome 360 videos.

IMO any action cam (does this qualify?) review should consider its potential use as an event recorder for cycling. I.e. something that would function like a dash cam in a car, and record any incidents. The 360 aspect would save the cyclist from having to run front and rear cameras. Run time is often not listed in specs and is critical.
