Samsung Tablet Factory Reset for forgotten password Sm-T580
I tried this method on a tablet that allowed me to switch it off even when a passcode is required to access the phone. If you are not able to switch it off, I might look for a solution to that if this solution did not work for you.

I did a factory reset so I can give my tablet to my son. And it will now allow him to get into the tablet. I even tried getting back in and after I enter all my information I get an error

In order for me to turn the power off, I must have the password. So... this method does not work for me. Even when I attempt to press power, volume, and home button, nothing happens.. it asks me for the password. Very frustrating BUT thanks!

I think at that point you need to drain the battery.
