Join Steve and Fran as they delve into the world of combination washer-dryer heat pumps in this semi-ranking video. While historically skeptical, they're now exploring the latest models from GE Profile, LG, and Samsung to see if these machines have improved enough to change their minds.
Discover the key features of each brand, from GE Profile's well-thought-out design and Microban technology to LG's reliability and advanced features like TurboWash. Samsung stands out with its innovative technology, including a 20-year warranty on the motor and an LCD touchscreen with customizable cycles.
While these combination machines offer convenience and space-saving benefits, we caution against overloading them, especially for large families with heavy laundry needs.

Who are these people that are sitting next to their washer and dryer and jumping up all day Saturday and Sunday every half hour? The GE Combo has given my freedom back. I actually spend less time doing laundry now and it’s far far easier. Our laundry never gets forgotten in the washer and needs to be rewashed (that will negate your speed run laundry frenzy). I finally have a modern machine that does the work for me! You have to clean the lint filter on a regular dryer each time, there is no extra work with these. In fact I never have to clean out my 2 story vertical vent pipe again, which is either do it myself or hire someone to do it for $400. These combos save more than is immediately apparent - time, money, sanity.

And that's not even accounting for the fact that they don't take conditioned air from your living space, heat it up with 6,000 watts of electric heat and *blow it out of a 4 inch hole in the damn wall*! I recently learned that vented dryers have been illegal in Switzerland for like 30 years because of how disastrously inefficient they are and how asinine the concept is to begin with!

We just got our profile as a family of 5, 4 being women. Its a great machine so far. In my opinion the concept of how you do laundry rather than a laundry day just throw a load in in the morning and one at night. 14 loads a week if you are consistent. There's no way with a standard washer and dryer setup you could do that in a laundry day or days. I think it's just adjusting your routine and schedule to optimize the ability and potential of the one and done. And maintenance is key. Just adapt to the machine and I believe these are the future with a change in traditional laundry mindset.

Hopefully, they will perfect it in years to come These combo's are great for apartment living or if you are building a new house and money is unlimited 🤔😊you can get 2 of them in the laundry room. Thanks for another great review until tje next one be safe.

For the GE unit, you really should buy their special tool to clean out the lint in the filter cavity. You should also periodically check the microban seal as that can trap lint in the folds.

We were interested in one of these because we are doing a bathroom remodel. The no vent and 110v would have knocked almost $4k off of the project. But, after looking at all the reviews that we could find, we opted for the LG tower. The all in one units just require too much maintenance. ie... clean the filters, pumps, and condenser. And like you said in this video, it's almost a 2 for 1. We are a retired couple, so we want simple, easy, and something that will last and is serviceable at a reasonable cost and time.

Conserning the more time it takes: 1) How many times you forget or are not available to put the washed cloths on the dryer? 2) With two machines, laundry is mainly done during WE. With that kind of machine, you can spread that nore dutring the week, because it does all the job and it doesn't matter if you leave it for a long time after it's done (unlike with a wasing machine).

Very nice video/discussion of various Washer/Dryer All In One!!! Been watching your video’s since the GE Ultrafast came out and now there is 3 models out from 3 companies. It is nice to see the comparison!! Since you seem to have connections to at least GE with the engineer interview. It has been a year since GE came out and the one complaint has been lint build up on the coils, appears to get around the lint trap. Why has not GE come up with a modified lint trap to do a better job? I have contacted GE and get a standard response with no solution. Lots of $$$ for a major problem due to lint buildup. There are video’s adding seals/foam to keep the lint from getting around the gap’s in the trap, for GE to see where the problem occurs! Thanks

Just an update on the ‘All In One’ washer/dryer combo. We purchased the GE Ultrafast with a riser and it was delivered June 06, 2024. I have been putting it through its paces to see of any problems and happy to say ‘it works’. This is our first ‘Front Load’ washer/dryer and it seems to have a real vibration when doing a high speed spin during the load sensing and spinning water out of the clothes. I am thinking it is a balance issue even though my level shows its level. However, GE is sending out a technician this coming week (June 25th) to check it out and troubleshoot. The customer service agent said she was not a technician, however thought it shouldn’t be vibrating so much. We shall see what the technician determines with an easy fix if there is a problem. Now back to the Ultrafast, it works very well thus far and give the clothes a ‘snap’ to take out the humidity after drying, it does work. The only time I have had to do some more dry on a few items, is when I had some towels with regular clothes. Thus the sensor may not have misjudged due to the different types of material, otherwise when towels are a separate load they come out dry when done ‘do the snap’. I have not had anything go much longer than 2 hours 10 minutes, most have been much shorter. The sensing does adjust the time during the cycle’s. Lint issue: There has been a bit of lint buildup in the far back of the filter, just a small amount getting past the lint filter. I have thus far not seen any lint on the condenser coils of the heat pump. So this is very good thus far, however I am considering putting the foam seal I have seen on other video’s on the back of the filter to keep the buildup down, but then my lint tool has been able to clean it out thus far. My current thoughts on the topic and best to all!

If these combo heat pump units prove to be effective & reliable, I would consider replacing our current W/D set (separate units) with two combo units since the space is already available (subject to affordability, of course). That would reduce the advantage of being able to overlap loads in separate units, plus each load would be handled less. Plumbing and electrical changes would be minimal and easy in my case.

The technician that was sent out was a sub contractor for GE, they do not have an actual GE Service Repair in the area. The technician that came out said from their check out the remaining vibration was from the floor it was sitting on due to it being a ‘Manufactured Home’. Definitely the Home Depot Installers getting the foot pads on the bottom of the washer to tighten everything up did help a lot on the vibration. Yes Home Depot took the feet off the washing machine and put them on the riser. Instead of leaving them alone and installing the included riser feet for the riser. So this alone tightened up the rigidity of the whole unit together. The GE tech sub contractor was able to confirm to my satisfaction that this was the best we can expect. Thus far the One and Done is performing well in the short period of usage and putting it through its paces. Best to all!

Being able to grow a load in when I start my day and have it washed and dried when I get home is wonderful. I do at least four loads a week and to be able to do it during the week and not have to over the weekend, freeing up time to do fun stuff is lovely. They will become the norm, we are just behind the rest of the world. I also know multiple large families that are using one of these and they love it. Its super easy to just make a change, do a load in the morning put it away when you get home and then do a load at night and put it away in the morning - you could do fourteen loads a week without rushing (and no nasty mildew results because you got distracted and forgot to transfer the load). If you aren't removing the lint after every load on a regular dryer you should be using a fluff and fold service because you are just killing your regular dryer and risking fire due to build up in the venting -its basic required maintenance. I just don't get the people who are incapable of doing the regular maintenance on their equipment and then are shocked when they get a new unit and they have to do the maintenance to keep it running (which is in the manual).

Removing lint every time….is not a big deal… JUST like removing lint in dryer before use (unless people are lazy as F)

None of them are the best wait a year or two for new model's that fix the issues and longevity that all these units have.

Drying time on the LG and Samsung aren't the best. Samsung has a 4 hour wash/dry time on a lot of their settings. No good!

It depends on how you use the unit. On my Samsung, I throw some clothes in it in the morning and before I go to bed. It's like people who complain about charging an electric car. Normally, it's done at home while you're sleeping, eating, or watching TV. It takes no time out of your day.

The selling point on combo washer and dryers is they save space, and secondarily you don't have to change the clothes from the washer to the dryer. Those are unimportant features compared to cleaning quality, dependability, longevity, and cost. The combo machines should be avoided in the same way as avoiding buying a combined computer and monitor. When one component breaks you have to throw away and repurchase the still good component with it. It is like a car with unremovable wheels where if you get a flat you have to throw away the car.

You're missing the significantly reduced chances of fire, the significant reduction in energy cost from the dryer alone, and the reduced heating and cooling cost. I assume the cleaning quality is the same as their standalone washers. Let's stop pretending dehumidifiers are a new technology. Given there isn't a 6kW heating element or flame thrower in the case of gas dryers, these things should be fairly reliable.

These things have been on the market for decades! They are very problematic! Just talked to an appliance repair man he advised me to stay away from them! Unless you live in a tiny house or efficiency apartment stay away! Junk!

The other combos have been out for decades. They could not remove lint and were problematic, so much so we didn't sell them. These all in ones have separate filters and should be better.

DONT BUY SAMSUNG… Im not even watching the video, came here to leave my experience. Bought brand new for almost $1000 just 3 years ago. 1. Replaced bearings, completely broken (take the while thing apart, like 8 hours labor), 2. Replaced Inverter Computer (completely burned black spot on the motherboard), 3. Just had to buy new Hall Sensor…. 🤦‍♂️ not even sure if that will fix the newest issue or not….

@YaleAppliance1 So, if you were buying one would it be the GE or LG? I thought you were presenting in order of pros, but you mentioned LG is typically more reliable. I thought I was ready to make a purchase, but I may have to wait until the next video.

Our Samsung washer was so poorly engineered it flooded our house, the warranty was a fraud, and we threw it away after 1.5 years. While it was just a washer, not the combo model, I would only get Samsung electronics. Samsung doesn't know what it is doing, and they don't care, when it comes to mechanical devices. It is a level of incompetency that is rare in modern times. The critically important part of this video starts at 5:55 where Mr. Sheinkopf discusses the warranties. If after 1.5 years with a warranty the Samsung washer can't justifiably be fixed, it will certainly be unfixable after a decade. Being in the business Mr. Sheinkopf is able to put two and two together while the uninformed learn it through suffering.

I have something to add: If your one of those idiots who’s going to complain “like omg 5 hours is way too long to have my 75 pound down feathef comforter WASHED AND DRIED” don’t buy this. What’s wrong with 5 hours to wash a massive comforter? 50 years ago that took my grandmother 24-48 hours and it dried outside. 2 hours sounds wonderful until you run a bacteria black light over it and inside it then one day get lung cancer and just cannot figure out why?? Let’s say one miraculous day a machine can do it in 2 hours flawlessly clean and dry, you know damn well you’ll be asking for the next machine next year to do it in 30 minutes. Genius level engineers who understand the limits of physics in the universe HATE PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!! They truely have no idea how good they have it and are CONSTANTLY asking for more more more. Regarding comforters, there will always be a day of the month your gone 5 hours to work or do errands which is plenty of time for this machine to run a 5 hour cycle, with everything done and ready when you arrive back home with no need to move it over to a 2nd machine for a 2nd cycle, sitting wet waiting till you get back to start the dry cycle, it’s just done. Maybe the reason the other two all in one machines cannot get a comforter dry is because the engineers are listening to whinny clueless idiots who fell like it should do it in 2 hours, and they caved in and wrote software for the machine. It’s nice to see Samsung NOT giving into an idiots demands. 5 hours is nothing to have a comforter WASHED AND DRIED! WITH ONE MACHINE. How often do you wash a comforter?? If it took 5 hours to wash a towel or my shorts then I’d see a problem with 5 hours. If you want this technology to succeed like I do, you gotta put these stupid soccer moms in Thier place about washing king sized comforters. I’d honestly be worried if a machine told me it could perfectly wash AND dry that large of a load in less than 2 hours without using 1000 degree heat.
