That's what I was thinking as well, a test should be done that way because I think it will be the winner by a long shot, but in this test with it unfolded the hours it got were decent amount of hours

From my experience it will probably only give you about an extra hour. That’s what my fold 4 gives me when I use I strictly use it closed.

11 hours SOT with the iPhone, very few people need fast charging when you can get that SOT! Just charge overnight with a 5-watt charger to extend your battery longevity.

@amfrepo Many people don't push the device to the absolute last of the day and plug it in when possible and that is where the fast charging comes in play...also the continuous narrative of battery saving and all that is bullshit..Just because Apple does not do it doesn't mean something is harmful or bad...Surely these conpanies like Samsung and Xiaomi have gained a lot of knowledge over the years on how to overcome any of this problem...

Not necessarily. The variable refresh rate of outer screen goes only to 48Hz, so it's spending more battery in standby

I'm really positively surprised by the Samsung Z Flip 5. With the relatively small battery, it has a good runtime and also does not generate a high temperature. Some with 43 degrees are just too hot in the hands. That's uncomfortable

Wrong. I doubt he let the pixel optimize the battery. It lasts quite a bit longer when it optimizes the battery. I have the potential of 10hrs SOT on my pixel 7 pro according to accubattery.

If you look at the drain during each part of the test the Pixel gets killed during the web browsing test because of its inefficient first gen LTPO display. Later generation LTPO displays have much less battery drain when displaying white backgrounds so hopefully this will be resolved with the Pixel 8 Pro even if the Tensor G3 can't match the Snapdragon Gen 2 for overall power efficiency.

Z fold 5 gains half an hour on the Z fold 4 from your test last year which is quite impressive given its got the same size battery and a more powerful screen. It's nearly 2 hours longer than your test for the Z fold 3 which I have. That in itself is making me think about upgrading.

I would suggest adding the battery cycle count and software version. Because those are the two variables that matter the most.

Such a shame for Pixel, Flip 5 with 3,700mAh battery beat Pixel 7 Pro with 5000mAh and it has stock Android..it's high time for Google to drop out Tensor shit made by Samsung and yeah OnePlus optimisation doesn't seem good too..i understand that there's a difference of QHD+ display but still the difference of 1300mAh is huge too and what about Samsung S23U and Xiaomi? they holded it well..My respect for Samsung has increased as they did amazing job with their foldable phones in terms of Battery optimisation and No words for iPhone.. it's Goat in terms of optimisation and battery life.

The same applies to the S23U, only 30 mins more than Flip 5 with a 1300mAh extra. That is more to do with foldable having more efficient displays so I would not judge that, otherwise, the S23U is also shameful. The S23U only beat the Pixel 40 mins and I would say for a 2021 Tensor versus the latest and greatest SD8G2 in the S23U I would be very disappointed with the S23U and very happy with the Pixel.

Im actually impressed that even with the biggest screen the fold five wasn't even one of the first 3 to die. So if you actually use the mixture of both screens the battery life should be more than enough for one day usage.

Is it true than S23 Ultra has battery drain issues? I'm planning to buy one but comments and tweets and reddit posts say it has battery drain issues. Like it's going from 100 to 92% in standby in about 2 hours. Or after the July update people can't get a full day of battery life out of it.

Yeah. And everyone talks about the bloat on Samsung phones and while Pixel phones have less bloat. Clearly that doesn't matter in a battery test. However, my Pixel 7 pro does just fine as long as I'm not playing games or constantly watching videos on it. That's when I see the battery really start to drain quickly. But with normal social media and browsing, the battery is enough for me. Fortunately, there's more to a phone than just how long the battery lasts. We don't buy phones just based on battery life. It's only one piece of the puzzle. I did have issues with it overheating until I disabled most apps from running in the background and using data in the background.

My last year s22 plus only last 8 hrs in test like these real life i get 5 to 6 hrs sot with gaming with100 % on 5g gps on and aod at default settings charges in 68 min from 25 watt charger first 50 % in 30 min i also have 45 watt which takes 60 min for full charge but in first 30 min charges 70 to 80 %

1) The Fold 5 is open in tablet form, which is a massive drain on battery. 2) New devices take a week to a month to learn battery usage and adjust. CLOSE the Flip and especially the FOLD and then see. The Fold closed is about the same screen size as the iPhone. Why, in tablet mode, is the Fold 5 being tested. Where is the tablet mode with the other phones? They don't have a tablet mode.

Mmm so fold5 appears to be 30min longer lasting than fold4 in last years test run (9hr18min vs 9hr38min). Amazing results considering the big screen. Cant wait till it hits over 10hr with snap 8gen3

Considering the S23U was on QHD and the iPhone being on FHD+, the S23 did better than the iPhone, pushing out more pixels whilst consuming more power.

The iPhone is NOT "FHD+". The highe resolution has almost no impact on the battery life whatsoever. That's why bigger phones always last longer even if they have only 10% more battery but twice the amount of pixels. And yet when you compare them this way, you may also keep in mind that the iPhone still has an 15% smaller battery and still lasts longer.

I watched his past video. The Z Fold 4 battery was 9 hours 16 min. The Z Fold 5 battery only went 9 hours 45 min. The 8 gen 2 chip doesn't seem to be blowing away the fold 4 battery.

Don't forget that when the screen is open on the Z Fold5 it consumes more battery than using it in the normal way like a regular smartphone. So if you don't constantly use it open, the battery life will be even better.

You also have to think that this is "best case scenario", in the real world you have whether you'll be on wifi or cellular, cell tower distance, heat, number of users on the cell tower, thickness of the building you're in, the distance from router or repeater, etc, so this number might be significantly lower

He needs to do the same test on the Fold 5 front display so we can see how much difference there is? I suspect it will be close to the S23U so still behind the best (iPhone).

Relatively it was not bad as only 40 mins behind the S23U with a 2023 chip, when the Tensor 2 is an Exynos from 2021. I think sensible people will say that the Pixel did really well and the S23U was surprisingly less than 8% better!

@@andyH_EnglandPixel didn't do well, regardless of how shiny you shine poop, poop is still poop, I can't support Google when they are undercutting their consumers by using inexpensive outdated chips and providing only 4 years OS update while being the literal owner of Android OS. Consistently performing the worst out of all major phone brands flagships year after year while having 4x more net worth than all android brands combined. Their fold phone was also a flop.

The 14PM won by a little margin over the S23U for discharge test. However, the S23U is significantly faster in charging then 14PM. S23U won overall.

Don’t forget that the iOS updates can throttle down the battery. Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, or if iPhone batteries degrade too quickly. I had my iPhone 13 PM for a year and 8 months, and the maximum capacity is down to 87%.
