The stories I got were generally pretty similar to the stereotypes, infantry on long marches through sweltering jungle that had a 50-50 chance to end in a dead friend or two, sitting in a foxhole/trench while VC or NVA took potshots at whatever peeped out, gunship crewmen taking spall from bullets ricocheting off of fuselage and weapons, etc.

I find that a lot. There are so many anime military girl drawings that are completely unrelated to any IP that look like they’d be so damn good. Honestly there just needs to be more modern military anime in general. What have we got so far, Gate? And I guess you could count jormangand.

I hope there's a lot of Black Lagoon or Jormungad, these genre is SO rare in comparison to Fantasy/Highschool focused produce, where the Kids always the MC not a single adult or at least a Kid who was not born in a very safe country like JP/US or any of the healthy democratic fashion.
