Eren tried to make everyone think he was a villain. Kind of a mask, if you will. He turned himself into the demon lord so that everyone would unite against him, and his friends would be able to live in peace. In the end, while a villain to Marleyans, Eren was a hero to his friends. You could say that he never stopped being a Hero to those who were important to him, but Died a villain to his enemies.

The message that Attack on Titan conveyed to me was very powerful. There’s this overwhelming theme of a price that has to be paid. In order to fight for something, to truly enact your will, you must be willing to pay with your sanity, and if need be, your life.
