What a treat. All monochrome. Thanks for that. Without colour, my mind can do more to create the scenes for me - and I feel less stimulated, which is refreshing. The low-key format and unpressured dialogue allowed much life and contemplation upon life to slip quietly in. Excellent videography and editing. The sound was great - that can’t be easy in urban spaces. Good work, both of you.

Jim really looks like a super nice guy. But he also goes really close hallelujah. As a german it might be in our education that we are actually a little more reserved when it comes to closeness. Jim has also had some really great stories. 👍 What nobody knows is that he uploaded the picture of the african lady and 2020 took its course. 😂 one day i photographed a guy with his girlfriend. he saw his photo on instagram and wanted to have the photo so he could give it to his girlfriend. that was sweet.

As I understand you meet for the first time. Great connection, very easy watching. thank you both for this. I really miss these long walks with a camera, good friend, beer, and food here and there. the time is very difficult for this and we are limited in our usual doing because of the second deep lockdown. despite this lockdown, I'm still taking street/life pictures every single day and of course documenting the massive anti-corrupted government protest during the last 4 months and finally started to put my stuff here on KZfaq channel as a slideshow.

Jim and I already met once before this video but you could say we were still getting to know each other :) Just had a look at your recent slideshow! Very cool... Looks very intense and I can only imagine how it must feel. We have it very relaxed here in germany but things are getting slowly bad here, too.

@@SamuelStreetlife By your meets and interviews with photographers I can say that your contact with new and kinda strange for you people (photographers) are very easy. and that's very important also for us - spectators that the conversation is floating and not too stuck on the standard questions and not interesting answers. Thank you for taking a lot at my slideshows. I always wanted to make them for my life photography projects, behind the scenes for movies and the band photography I'm doing a lot, but finally, i did the first try with these protests and I'm planning to continue with one video every week, just have no time for this. Almost everything i published with these two videos I took with Ricoh GRii :-) I'm really dreaming about that the lens was f2 and not f2.8. The protests are intense as hell but this a very long story. And about Germany - " things are getting slowly bad" - in terms of a pandemic or political situation? thank you again !!

@24:48 ... I always carry a pair of foldable scissors with me. Once I have taken out the roll of exposed film with the leader and some slack still sticking out of the cartridge, I cut off the leader in preparation for putting it on the development reel. That way I also make sure I don't confuse fresh film with exposed one ;)

what i loved about shooting film is all the decisions are made by you. you decide exposure, you decide framing and focus, you roll your film and process it and then you print it. everything based on your eye and your understanding of light and exposure. I shot leica for years. M6, Mp, M2, M3. I used 2 lenses a 35 and 50 summicron. funny because te more you use it, the more you realize you don't need a light meter. you just know by looking at a scene what aperture and speed you are going to use. i was faithful to neopan which was sadly discontinued. kodachrome and neopan and Tri-x were always in bag. i've tried other rangefinders but i think Leica has always been the easiest to focus. I hated the yashica rangefinder, the Nikon S was hard to see as well and the leica III was horrible. I havent tried the canon but now im interested. sorry, im just rambling... I love film lol

@40:30 About that, i understand your point, but also i can totally understand what people are thinking when you just take their pictures randomly, i have a very conflictional relationship with street photography after spending too much time on flickr, you fall into a weird rabbit hole with groups full of creep shots of the street, and yeah, that is VERY unconfortable to look at, so yeah some people really do weird stuff with the pics they take on the streets.
@helenlundeberg
@helenlundeberg 3 жыл бұрын
Also something I struggle with. I feel like it's almost impossible to not occasionally run into someone who's irritated or uncomfortable with me taking their picture. Most of the time people are either confused or don't care but it's hard to convey the feeling of someone who's taking a picture not because they're creepy but because they're just documenting the beauty/interestingness of their surroundings. I guess if they understood the motives they wouldn't be creeped out. And I'm not talking about Bruce gilden in your face type of shots just simple candid that don't portray people in a negative light. From experience looking very casual and focused at the same time usually helps but sometimes you wanna shoot when there's a few static subjects and it's harder because they feel attacked or something.
