On the other side of Fukushima prefectures lies the city of Aizuwakamatsu. I'll show you ryokans that look like they're out of a movie set, visit a samurai school, make some traditional lacquerware, get purified at a local shrine, and visit a former post town, where daimyo and samurai stopped by on their travels in the Edo period.
You can find info about many of the places I went at samurai-city.jp/en/
Thanks to Aizuwakamatsu for sponsoring this video.

Ryokans / Onsens (Traditional Japanese Inns / Hot Springs). Lots of people asking about where we stayed. The first place was in the Hagashiyama area samurai-city.jp/en/relaxation/1065 and is called Harataki www.yumeguri.co.jp/index.php. The second place was in the Ashinomaki area samurai-city.jp/en/relaxation/1542 and is called Ookawaso www.ookawaso.co.jp/. As far as pricing goes, I thought they were quite reasonable for what you get. I've paid more for lesser accommodations. I think there's more value because it's not as well known as places like Hakone. For all the places we went, you can kind of figure it out by going to samurai-city.jp/en/

we went to Aizuwakamatsu for our Honeymoon from Australia. Best place ever. Even the taxi drivers were super friendly and gave us a picture of a famous Koi from the area with a love heart on it. The Castle was amazing, climbing all the stairs took a little time but the museum inside and the view were worth the climb.

I took an intro to Japan course in college and the more I learn about Japanese culture and its people the more I like them. There is such a level of friendliness and civility, respect for one another and dedication to occupation. They try to live with harmony and respect for nature. It may be a country that is on a downward slide in terms of economic power but morally it is on an upward slide. I feel sometimes the US is on an opposite trajectory. The more our economy grows the less our society and culture does. We can all learn so much from Japan in terms of how to treat each other. How to behave.

Hey Greg! That shell is Abalone, but in New Zealand we call it Paua. You can eat the shellfish minced up with egg and flour and bacon and the shell is very popular here for mainly tourist items. It doesn't look that pretty when it is taken from the sea, its had the outside ground off and its been polished to bring out the colour. It's quite pretty!

That place looks really peaceful. I really liked the lacquerware. The black with the almost neon-like colours look amazing! The town where I'm from, was founded by the Romans about 2000 years ago. So we have a lot of reminders of that in our town. It's one of the oldest settlements within this country.

I'm Native/Indigenous, so there are a lot of areas on our different reservations, that we've been able to maintain, so that when we have tourists, we can give them a good showing of what life was like for our ancestors. We also maintain them for powwows, ceremonial and tradition passing use, and honestly just for us to be able to remember and pass down our culture. Because of the mass genocides, indoctrinations and enslavement through the years, there aren't that many of us left, and fewer who are qualified to pass down our languages, cultures, traditions, etc. Once I have my own KZfaq channel up and running, I plan on showcasing a lot about my different tribe cultures. And B role footage, Greg. You filmed that irrigation channel, for b role footage. 😂

I'm not going to lie. Japanese vacations look SO much more relaxing than many American ones. It feels like everywhere intended for tourists here is lined with flashing lights and casinos and theme parks. Even the national parks are often littered with trash and infested with ilegal campers and questionable activities. The only place you can find botanical gardens is within mega-cities, where the serenity of the garden is interrupted by the hustling and bustling of the large city aorund it )or maybe my hearing is just too sensitive). But Japan seems to place SO much more emphasis on inner peace and tranquility, and that's something it's hard to find in America. If I could travel, I'd totally take a trip to Japan just to try a Ryoken! :)

what a nice video. i just want to jump into a plane and come along. here in the north-east of Germany we do have a couple of historical places. old wooden slawic villages. they are recreated the way they where from over 1300 years ago. and then there is all the history around the great Hanse and it's achievements. Buildings, harbours and whole towns. the history of them is even represented in the town names like "Hansestadt Rostock".
