Men's Haircut: Remove Weight and Add Texture To Longer Hair

Last year we had a huge influx of guests requesting barber cuts; tight fades with very clean skin edges.

Now that some of these guests want to grow their hair out let’s get into two texturizing techniques, one practical and one visual that will enable you to give movement to longer length.

Sam Villa 9-Gap Razor Blade - Why this Blade?
- The ‘U’ shaped grooves in-between the gaps hold the hair around them out of the way
- Only a small amount of hair is removed with each sweep - You are in control of how much weight to remove
- Great for pre-texturizing to remove weight
Sam Villa 6-Gap Razor Blade - Why this Blade?
- The ‘U’ shaped grooves in-between the gaps hold the hair around them out of the way
- Use for texturizing toward the ends of hair
Professional Long Cutting Comb

Why this comb?
- You want a comfortable length with narrow teeth at one end to smooth out your sections
- Black comb for lighter hair/Ivory comb for darker hair - the contrast will enable you to stay on point and see what you are doing

I've never had extensions before but after seeing all the hype around ZALA extensions I had to get some. I ordered the 22inch pony tail extension using the online colour match service that they offer. My extensions came so quick, it was in the nicest packaging and the colour of the extension PERFECTLY matched my hair!! The texture of the extensions are sooooo smooth and it blends with my natural hair seamlessly. IM IN LOVE! I highly recommend getting these extensions and using their match service as its spot on.

I think you need a before and after style to see how this is helpful. We can NOT see the texture and movement it creates to know when we want to use this technique.

You could just let them know you would like weight removed... if you don't think your hairdresser would be offended, you can always send them the link to the video and ask them if they think something like this would work for your hair.

I didn't know 'razors' like this even existed. I thought a razor was that sharp straight edge thing you use after putting on shave cream. Too much bulk in the back has always been a problem for me. It makes the hair disproportional. The only solution any stylist has ever offered me was to cut it back with scissors, or maybe thinning shears (only if I ask for them) which hurts cause all it does it pull your hair out and it's not effective anyway. Are cosmetology students trained in using these razors or is it strictly a barbering thing, requiring more education and more tuition? How do you sharpen the blades on them when they aren't straight?

Hey Joe, thinning or blending shears could be effective if used in a certain way (they shouldn't pull either... might be from a dull shear unfortunately). The blades we are showing are unique and not a lot of stylists use them. You don't sharpen them, the blades themselves are disposable.

Don't ever use a razor on thin hair. Reason is you are basically thinking out thin hair and you don't want to do that. Texture is thinning.
