I've been using Samyang 800mm mirror lens for astrophotography between 2015 to 2017 - before I sell it for a telescope. This video is mainly for share my photo/video captured by this lens. :)
All the footage of Samyang in this video, except the part in "Image quality", has been graded.

That this thing can take a decent shot at the Moon seems a bit of a no brainer... To me at least. What i cant seem to find is how would a Lense of this type to shooting suff like say the Pleiades, or the Orion Nebula?

Not bad! If it had a tripod mount, I'd consider it, but no mount limits it to camera-only.

Pretty compelling shots man. I'm sure a telescope would get better shots, but the advantage of a mirror lens is that you can also take it out with you for nature shots (or any long distance shots). Great footage though man, and love the stacked photos.

absolutely. even though celestron c5 is a relatively "small and light" telescope, it still takes a lot longer to setup and require much bigger bag/case to carry around. For that I do miss carry around mirror lens ;)

Have you tried the cheaper 420-800mm by other brands?

hi. I was also curious about the 800mm, so I bought it a while ago and shot it, but no matter how well I focus, it comes out blurry than the 300mm. Is that how it is? Or am I doing something wrong? Please advise if you have any other tips.

hi. 800mm is soft, incredible difficult to focus, and very easily affected by the atmosphere/weather; 1. if your camera have peaking feature, use it to help focus; 2. depends on the subject, stack the photo if you can;

@@qbgabe12 What about the peaking feature? And when I saw it as a single cut, the picture quality was definitely lower than that of the Sigma 70-300.

@@Awindwithnoname by design, the optical quality of mirror lens is much inferior to all the "normal" camera lens, thus it is why we can buy a 800mm lens under $200usd "peaking" is a feature to help focus, where it will show the area in focus with some color lines on your camera monitor, but it is subject to your camera features

Not sure if you have a Tracker mount or not. But remember everythings moving, and than more so in those elevated ranges. Also these lenses are also typicly at f8, which ain't helping you with freezing motion, hence the blury smeers. The only thing you can do out side of taking yor Lense, and Camera out durring the day to "find" the "Infinity point" on that lens. Its rarely to be found where the manufacturer placed it. Would be to shorten up that exposer time, and than take a few thousand more shots than you were planing on.
