Malls in Asia have security guards at the entrance who casually inspect for firearms before entering which is standard. Paid parking lots in some malls or hotels sometimes screen car trunks for “bombs”. Even if someone can probably conceal weapons, it still acts as a deterrent so I’ve never heard of smash and grab in malls. More like like, local vendors and people smash and grab criminals like purse snatchers or car break ins. I’ve seen mobs chase and try to get a free punch in on a snatcher they cornered for a beat down. For California, feels like you shouldn’t help or get involved bec the criminal will sue you back. For this jewelry break in at Tanforan, what’s embarrassing is the San Bruno police station is just outside the food court. That’s like having a patient left to die in front of a hospital. I suggest jewelry stores and businesses with smash and grab risks, use paint ball or spray paint to mark thieves. Guns are complicated. If you pull yours, they will pull theirs. If you use yours, they will use theirs. Can you really pull the trigger and end a life or cripple a stupid teen robber over small merchandise?
