San Diego Family Lives Out Of Their Van

For San Diego County's homeless, finding a safe place to sleep just got a little harder. A week ago the City of Vista pulled the plug on a program there. Cornerstone Christian Church opened its parking lot for people to sleep overnight in their cars. But the city said the program would need to apply for costly permits and undergo public hearings to continue. Dreams for Change, the organization running the program, still offers an overnight lot close to downtown San Diego. Reporter Acacia Squires brings us this story of one family taking advantage of it.

She is a beautiful person. She's not blaming anyone and is so positive !! She is dealing with her situation and remaining strong for her children. I Love her attitude. I learned right now from this woman that you can get through bad times. It was her smiling face and happy children. I think when she gets through being homeless, with all her children, there's nothing she can't handle as a mother. My hero!!! God Bless her!!

My family has been living in a hotel for over 2 years. I'm a born again Christian and my children are being raised with God's values. My husband got laid off of work and we just can't seem to get out of this situation. We make the best out of every day and are waiting for God to deliver us from this journey. cruyeda That was already party of her plan perhaps. Filing out of state could take years.... But now since she is in the same town as her husband, filing and being awarded money and health care should take about 6 months for her

I've been homeless before, and she's handling it was better than I ever could. What an excellent mother. She's making being homeless sort of a living experience for them, and still allowing them to be kids. For me, it was a constant panic sort of thing. I was so worried about getting mugged or losing my job or something else stupid.

Many woman do this. When the man is no longer interested in being a husband or a father he runs to a different state. The mother of the children feels sad for her babies and chases after him in hopes that he will either come back to her or be in the children’s lives. She seems devastated but hopeful. I love her willingness to make it as it seems her family has been through a lot.... P.S. Having children or even getting pregnant is not going to make that man stay. I’m sure someone who is in a position to help will see this story and guide her to success.

God Bless this family. Children are adaptable and this mom makes this a great adventure and this keeps the children happy because their mom is their “Rock” I wish the best of everything this world has to offer to this precious family. I'm so confused by this. How does one move across country like that with 5 kids, without an iron clad plan, or 2 or 3. And where the heck is the ex-husband? Did he even know she was coming?

3/6/18.....WHERE do these kids go to school during the school year? HOW about the son who had cancer? WHY did this intelligent well-spoken lady stay in bad relationship & keep having kids? She came across country in a van with 5 kids, so WHERE is their dad that she brought them to see & WHY isn't he helping them? Why are taxpayers supposed to pay for this woman & her kids? Let that abusive dad fork over some $$$.

This is a great mom with a huge heart. How many women and men out there that have a job are complaining every day for every thing and she does not have a job or where to live but she is so positive and dreaming on having a better future. God bless her

She’s a good mom. I can’t say the same for her children’s father. If he really cared for his children, he would of taken them until their mother got on her feet, git a place and job, then return their children to her when she got stable. What a guy.

This is sad instead of giving this woman a job and one of the thousands of vacant homes we have here in California they force this woman to sleep in her car... People always say there's no jobs.. BULLSHIT they're just reserving them for the right person.

I have known several women to pickup and leave one state for another bc of a man and it never work out. It's very disruptive to the children's lives. When you move away from family/friends, you loose network of supporters. Women, esp. mother's should be cautious of such moves. Also, where's the father, now? He has no place of his own? No, family that can help with housing? And, he can't be doing too well, he should have moved to MI.

LV Teach Me ..Respect...People Talk A Good Game And Do Lip Service When It Comes To Children..But At The End Of The Day Only The Grandmother Will Truly Help Her Daughter With Her Children. At The End If The Day..People Care Absolutely Nothing About Women But To Use, manipulate, belittle, Talk, And Put Her down. Look How judgmental and ugly these comments are. You have kids out of wedlock you’re bad..You Are Good If You Have Kids And You And the Husband Are Still Together. children are a blessing but i am so leaning towards not having any. stop following men around and depending on men to take care of you, even if it is the father of your children/husband. have plan before you have kids and stop just having them. we all know you didn't have them alone bu we all know who ends up with the responsibility. i bet their father isn't living in a van. probably in a cozy bed with some woman taking care of him. sad but probably the truth. you and your kids are in my prayers.

Stop having them are you for real’s....You could have use some kinder words Kelly....did you ever think stop to think that maybe one of those children of hers might make one of the greatest difference in this world.. Look at her children their beautiful...they might be struggling right now...but its not for ever with God blessing and good people out there she will get up on her feet....this woman in not ghetto it looks like something went wrong in her marriage and now she is struggling alone without a having the father around to help. We shouldn’t pass judgment so easy it could happen to anyone of us.
