Syracuse stood tall in the first round of the 2021 NCAA tournament, taking down San Diego State. Buddy Boeheim was on fire for the Orange, dropping 30 points while shooting a tremendous 73% from the field and 70% from deep. Watch the extended highlights here.

Syracuse was clearly the better team here. Why? 1. Syracuse has been much more battle tested than San Diego State. Syracuse was facing more challenging opponents in their schedule than SDSU. 2. SDSU has not faced a team like Syracuse before (e.g., SDSU is not used to the 2-3 zone defense). Syracuse on the other hand, is used to playing teams like SDSU (Syracuse has seen defense similar to SDSU defense). 3. March Madness is when Syracuse is at their most dangerous. SDSU faced Syracuse at the wrong time. In fact, this game was the probably the best I have seen Syracuse play during that season. Plus, Syracuse plays better when they have a lower seed than a higher seed. When Syracuse destroyed the Aztecs in that game, I knew Syracuse would beat West Virginia in the next round.

With Buddy B. playing so well, similar to what Larry Bird did to teams when he was at Indiana St. 70 per cent from three works out to 105 per cent from two, hard to beat that

It’s crazy as a Syracuse fan this team went to sweet 16 and only two starters came back and the first 5 substitutes all transferred guerrier Richmond Copeland braswell doleic graduated they would have been a top ten team the next year instead 3 starters and the first 3 off the bench all left and Syracuse is finally starting to get out of the hole that left us in

Everyone always sleeps on Syracuse when they are a low seed the past few years and all they have done is reach the final four in the sweet 16 both times they have been a 10 or higher seed give it up people at 2-3 zone is crazy if you don't play it all year like the ACC does you're not going to beat it the only way cuses loses is if they're not scoring and off that game everytime they lose in the ncaa

teams in the tournament usually don't play against zone , so it shocks them to see a chane in defense!

Basketball is a game of runs. Thats why they play 7 games in the nba playoffs because anyone can have a good and bad game on any given night. I still am not convinced that syrycuse is the better team. The aztecs have never missed so many shots all year. Congrats to the orange though. hope you guys win it all.

The best team won that night...that’s March Madness...if the Aztecs made their normal %, they would be moving on instead of Cuse. Some misses due to the D, others were wide open and just whiffed...it’s a tough loss. And thanks for the SU comments. We could come up whiffing against WV today...only one team will be smiling at the end of this...go Cuse!
