This was my first session of 2020. And I was super thankful for what I landed. They were not legal, but still my pb so far for halibut from the surf on a lucky craft. Thanks for checking out the video!

Legal or not, always nice catching flap jacks in the surf. I feel a legal is coming soon! That area you are fishing at looks pretty nice. Got to drive up on a weekend and join you one of these days. This month has been busy for me, only able to sneak in a few hours in the morning and had to stay local. Aight doggy, keep doing your thing and I will catch you around the Gram.

Man how I miss fishing SD and north county. I never did much conventional fishing in the surf, I preferred the fly fishing. Now, living here on the Texas gulf coast you made me home sick. 22” for a Hali? Wow. Hey, I enjoy the vids love Cali surf fishing.

I have the same 9ft pole with 20lb thin braid on a small reel for casting a lot a times without getting tired

Surfers at encinitas ,Carlbad are so nice but at oceanside lier surferd are super mean . I didn't know that but i heard it depends on the level of education of the cities, but thanks you surfers of encinitas for been so nice to Fisher men

I’ve never had any issues with surfers. Most just mind their own, and some are super friendly and ask questions. I don’t ever fish Oceanside, so I can’t relate there. Just keep doing your thing, stay positive and don’t let others negativity affect you! Thanks for the comment! 🤙🏽

I just switched my luckys and xraps to single hooks and my hookup is no different and I dont mangle the fish with trebles. Also seem to snag less muck in the water.

I feel like I don't get any distance when casting when I use the lure alone, do you use any kind of weight with this to throw it further? (sorry if you've answered this question before)

No worries, and thanks for the comment. Yes, I do add weights to the Lucky Craft 110. Check out suspenstrips. Made by a company called Storm. You can buy them on Amazon. I’m not sure if I have a link in my videos or not. Also, depending on your setup, that could also limit the distance. What are you using? I don’t believe I was using weights in this video, but not too long after that I started to throw weighted lc’s exclusively. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Take care! 🤙🏽

@@amefocus I am buying the sticker weights today great idea! The last time we went we just used our salmon poles. We used a bass pro shop-9' Borealis BLS4000, with braided line. I also have a Okuma-Delta Bay Elite? We're going to Dillions next week crabbing but will be fishing for surf perch too trying to get set up. Thank you for your reply!

Hey, thanks for the support! I mainly throw the lucky craft 110’s, but for the grubs I would say 8-12lb test should be good. Thanks again! 🤙🏽

@@amefocus Thanks for the update. After watching all your video's over the Summer, I made a list of your gear. I've picked up a backpack, LC's, 30g jigs, white curly tail jigs and a couple of Okuma Surf Rods and Shimano 3000 reels. My Compass 360 waders come tomorrow and I'll be chasing hali's from Mission Beach to South Carlsbad. I turned 61 this summer and really look forward to retiring soon and doing a lot of surf fishing. I caught a #17 Hali in 2016 in SD Bay, so I have to beat that someday soon ! Thanks for the motivation and cool videos.

@@amefocus Hey thanks. If you don't mind, what is the brand, line rating and weight rating on your 9'0 rod ? It looks like you can really launch that LC 110 a good way with it. Thanks for any info. Much appreciated for sure.

Sure, no worries. It is a Tica Libra 9’0 heavy 12-20lb. I think the lure rating is 1/2oz-2oz. Are you a member of CSA(California Surf Anglers) on Facebook? One of the moderators, Victor who is from San Francisco has a relationship with Tica rods.

Hey, thanks for the love! I’m not familiar with the coast in your area, but if you can make it to Torrey Pines, the sand crabs are showing up in large numbers right now. Can’t go wrong with Carolina rig and a sand crab on the end! Thanks again for the comment!

Good question. I personally have been using size 30. I’ve heard of people using 25, and others recommending nothing less than 50. I use 30. Not recommending it, but it’s what I use, and I’ll stick with it for now. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

Blueskies it’s a clip that you tie to your leader and then clip to your lure. Makes it possible to simply swap out lures without cutting line and re-tying. Just look up TACTICAL ANGLERS CLIP. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

Wish you could have released halibut a little faster. Clearly was undersized , didn't need to waste time finding measuring tape and then holding it up to examine it for the camera. Good video though.

I have a LC but it is soo light it doesn't cast far enough in the surf to get where the fish are. Do you add weight?

That was Cardiff. I’m not sure if you can fish 24/7. A lot of beaches weee closing at like 6pm. But they may have lifted that now. Thanks for checking out the video!

My brother want to know if it’s OK to fish at all beaches , as long it’s after sunset or when beaches are closing/beach goers go home/ before sunrise?? He just doesn’t wanna get caught from cops/called by neighbor’s.

Yeah, all beaches are open now. I’m not sure about after sunset. Is he in SD? But I’m sure he will be just fine.

Look for, “holes” in the water and structure. And then, chuck an LC until your arm falls off 😂. Just have to get out there as much as you can, and soon enough you’ll land one! Thanks for the comment! Take care 🤙🏽

Do you upgrade the hooks on the 110? If so, what size and type?

I have, but lately I’ve been leaving them stock. When I was upgrading, I stayed with the stock size #6, 2x owner hooks. When I get snagged on structure with stock hooks, when all else fails to break it loose, I just tighten the drag and pull. It bends the hook, but I don’t lose a $20 LC. 🤙🏽 take care!

I personally use 20lb leader. It’s all about the application and preference too. I usually toss Lucky craft lures, so I stick with 30lb braid main line to 20lb fluorocarbon leader. Hope this helps.

Okay, the 115. Yeah, that lure is meant to sink. But, you can launch those things.

I use the 110 and 115. Just depending on conditions. The 110 is a suspending lure. But, it’s a little lighter than the 115. The 110 weighs 5/8 oz. and the 115 weighs 3/4oz. Hope that helps. 🤙🏽

Sammy H okay no worries Sammy! Try a Carolina rig, 1/2 oz egg weight. 2-3ft leader line(6#), #6 hook with Berkeley gulp camo sand worms. That will get you on some bsp(barred surf perch) and maybe something else too! How’s that sound? Let me know! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
