San Francisco offers a $5 million program for homeless alcoholics to receive free alcohol. The city says its "Managed Alcohol Program" is in place to help stabilize drinking patterns.

Ah yes. Because giving alcoholics, alcohol has never turned out badly. Especially ones whom live in the street, may have untreated mental disorders and NEED four walls and roof. So when they get liver disease what healthcare will they use for the hospital? Oh that’s right they don’t have it. In America homeless shouldn’t be a problem! Only my opinion of course. So sad. 😞

You get a Bloody Mary for breakfast, a screwdriver for lunch and a bunch of shots in the evening. When I attended rehab we had group sessions during the mornings, individual during the day and one or two AA/NA meetings in the evening. I would much prefer the former!

Who's idea is it? And who is in position to make it happen? Anybody having problems being homeless when we've had the best economy for the past 10 years will always be homeless. Quit wasting money on people who will never make it even if you do everything for them.

I’m an alcoholic in San Francisco and I support the program. It’s a very small program and should be expanded to support more drinkers. The city makes a lot of money from taxes on alcoholic beverages and highly instrumental in promoting the addiction.

I agree with this idea, you can't force an addict into recovery. Those programs don't work and 9 out of ten violate parole, which cost the tax payers even more. Wouldn't you rather see them safe and off the streets, doing it in front of your kids..? Think about it now. I've written a plan based solely on volunteers and donations..
