Senna is a herb derived from various flowering species of the Cassia plant. For ages, the leaves, flowers, and fruits of the senna plant (Sana Makki) have been used in tea as a laxative or stimulant.
Senna fruit appears to be milder than senna leaf. As a result, the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) has issued a warning against the long-term use of senna leaf but not senna fruit.
The AHPA advises labeling senna leaf goods "If you experience abdominal discomfort or diarrhea, do not use this product. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this product. In the event of diarrhea or watery stools, discontinue usage. Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Not intended for long-term usage."
Pregnant women and moms who are breast-feeding:
Senna may or may not be safe to consume while pregnant. Before using senna or any other laxative, pregnant women who are constipated should see their doctor.
When taken in the correct dosage, senna appears to be safe for breastfeeding mothers. Despite the fact that a little quantity of the herb gets into breast milk, it does not appear to have any impact on the stool of a nursing infant.
