These incredible birds show up in my backyard from time to time. Their call sounds positively prehistoric to me! And they are *big* birds!

And here we have a pack of wild Floridian velociraptors.

They sound like they could rip your arms off, but they are so docile. When they fly, they constantly cackle to each other. It is, indeed, sweet music.

I love sandhill cranes. I live on the west coast of FL, and there have been many a families came through here for the 40 years I've lived here. We have a pair that just had two babies. I love to watch them. I actually had the male pecking on my glass door last week. They are pretty comfortable around people, even cars.

Growing up in Florida, we saw them everywhere. Love that sound!

I just took my puppy out and heard a strange noise. I looked up and there was around a dozen of these cranes circling. Eventually about 20 more caught up to them and they all continued north. Was So cool!

I absolutely love sandhill cranes..they are majestic and beautiful!!!! It is 10pm in florida..a flock of cranes just flew over...loudly calling. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY FLY AT NIGHT!! OMG!!

They seem to maintain a territory even after it's been converted from an undisturbed natural space to something like a shopping center... (Personally, I despise the development of natural lands while so many of America's urban and suburban areas could be redesigned for efficiency.) One of my favorite sounds in Florida, to be sure. I love sandhill cranes, we have 4-5 in the neighborhood and we adore them. One that often comes to our house is a pair. They don't allow us to come too close (and we don't) but they understand we are not a threat and that they are safe here. This beautiful bird will always remind me of home.

Heard these yesterday 7 Aug 2021 in Lake County IL. They are spectacularly LOUD.

I miss hearing these when I lived in Florida. Came up to my Lanai nearly everyday.

They used to wake me up every morning and then one would stand in front of my car door and make me late to work because he knew I wasn't going near his giant ass😂

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing these beauties up close like this in McHenry, IL where they also breed. This past weekend we saw large flocks of them flying over McHenry and it is a sight to see if you haven’t seen them fly. The V patterns are really neat and at times it was hard to see them because they fly very high plus their color blends in with cloudy skies until sunlight hits them. More times than not I heard them first then saw them.

I live by a sandhill crane refuge and right now we have a set of mates hanging around putting on a show they come up while I'm playing guitar like it's intriguing to them or something

Had a few hundred flying over me when I went for a walk with my mom last spring. Truly awe-inspiring!

In mid-late May, a few pairs of Sandhill Cranes start arriving (from Florida/Cuba) on a marsh just outside our acreage here in Northern Saskatchewan (Canada). By late August the skies are filled with the racket of multiple families training their chicks to fly before setting out on their long migration south in mid - late September.

Ha!! I knew it! I saw these guys when I took a trip to Florida last year. Just now, gardening in my front yard in CALIFORNIA, I heard this sound and saw a massive flock of birds flying overhead. I was too late to get the binoculars, but I looked this video up to see if I was right about the call. Sure enough, we just got a flock of Sandhill Cranes flying over our house :) What a treat!

I had a half chow half golden retriever that looked just like your dog. Best dog of all time because it got the best traits from both breeds.

I seen these yesterday at Lake Erie Metro park in Brownstown, Michigan. In the small field next to the road, jumping up and down.

My backyard homies, usually there’s just a pair but I always love seeing them!

We have huge flocks come visit our area. We have one pair that picked our neighbor's field/pond last year to raise their chick (it was later killed by a stray cat) and this year, they are in our field! They aren't nesting this year- I think they are still mourning.

I have been living in Florida for just 5-1/2 years, and when I first saw these birds, I felt like I was in Jurassic Park. I was in disbelief. I'm from Connecticut and never saw birds like this in person. They are beautiful birds and awesome to look at. I hope I can get a picture of them next time.

I had my first encounter the other day with two beauties on my neighbor's yard. I looked outside because of the noise I heard, thinking it was the neighbor drilling something.

I live in Florida. When I first got there, and first heard this, I was like "what the hell?!?!" Like Day of the Triffids or something.

Yesterday some flew over the house. I've been here since 1979 (Just north of Milwaukee) and this is the first time I've seen them here.

Great audio!.....moved to west coast of FL 6 months ago...we always see these in the field behind the house. They walk down the road like the own it...lol. So cool watching them land in tandem on the street in our development. Usually hear them early in the mornings. I've used this audio behind the house and watch them perk up and look all around. lol.

I live outside Madison, Wisconsin, I've seen these walking around a few times, and today while taking my daughter for a bike ride we heard one calling (at first I thought it sounded like someone rubbing rubber together), but then we saw it flying around. It was amazing.

Been getting these in Vero Beach, Fl. Have a little fill lake that was made back in the 40s when they built my neighborhood. There’s a couple that like the lake and we hear this exact call flying through the neighborhood. It’s an amazing sound as they fly from one point to another.

You've definitely captured their sound! It was within the last hour that I heard a continuous sound that I found was coming from a pair of the Sandhill Cranes as they were standing at the end of my street about a yard and a half away. I sincerely thought there was something wrong with the A/C unit next door or somebody's car fan belt was having issues!!! What a sound.

They migrate out of Illinois in the middle of December...huge flocks all following each other so high up and in the COLDEST weather and it doesn't bother them. I have total respect for these animals. They should be returning to our state any day now. I can't wait!
