Got this for my girlfriend’s mom as she’s a photographer. She was editing two weddings off of them and it wouldn’t show up on her mac anywhere. She would’ve had to start completely over but before I broke down the ssd I tried the R-Studio software he recommended. Immediately upon starting up the software the drive showed up and all the files were fine. Thank you!

Oh my god Man, you gave me some hope, I got SanDisk Extreme 1Tb full of family video and pictures that unexpectedly just stop working, doesn't show up in the system at all. Local company that I requested for a quote for recovery sounded about 900$ not even looking at it. I did some electronics myself in the past, and decided to take a look, opened it up and pulled out NVME, inserted it directly into M2 on MB and got no luck. Couldn't find any specs on chips, so decided to throw it in the drawer for some time (for 6 month). Seems like the time has come, thanks to your video, I got some option to try, will get a donor (WD NVME SN750 has the same components as well as Power Management IC) it costs 40$, hopefully that would be the fix. Don't want to go NAND de-solder and dump route (don't have tools for it)

Hi! I would like to ask you, does the SN770/SN570 also suffer from this issue? I myself have a revised 2tb version of the SN570 (with the same nand and controller as SN770) and it works very well for me - low temperatures with great performance. Unfortunately i can see that most WD drives use the same PCB design and now i started to worry about potentially loosing my data someday

I don't do data recovery but I do work with microchips and I was wondering a good way to learn how to solder surface mounted components? I've always stuck with DIP/through hole because I know I can't solder anything else. I have to imagine there is a better way to learn soldering other components which don't include buying a bunch of ICs and destroying them in the process; some kit or something?

@@hddrecoveryservices So turns out the controller of my Sandisk is "damaged". The analysis shows the presence of a dynamic XOR protection on the NAND component (which works), but data cannot be read because of the XOR protection, as the controler contains the key to go through the protection of the dynamic XOR (if I understood correctly). Have you had ever encountered a thing like that? And do you think that putting a new controller would resolve the issue? Or put the memory chips to a clean SSD motherboard. @@hddrecoveryservices I'm not a data recovery expert, only a sysadmin with the hobby of electronics. You need two different supply voltages (please forgive me if I don't remember what these are: 3 and 1,3 volts if I remember correctly). If this is what you need, and you know where these supply voltages must be applied (because you tested a working device) then with a lab power supply (with 2 outputs) you could simply generate these voltages and apply them to the right points (that are the traces that come from the power chip output and go to all the components that need them). Since the power supply chip is probably disconnected somehow, I won't expect it to create any issue with this power coming in from its output. And if it does, isn't it easier to just remove it instead of replacing it? Well, probably for me it's easier because I'm not as good as you at reworking SMD components.
