Not all is as it seems ;) ..look at the money, tech, expertise and PASSION here. If something as seemingly obvious as sand was a problem, they would have addressed it. Clearly the sand takes it's toll, but if you want to be competitive, that is the price you pay. Sand isn't the limiting factor to engine life though, the incline is! Even with surge tanks and dry sumps, how do you design a baffle that will a) stop the fuel from foaming over those rutts and bumps and b) flow well enough? It will either starve for fuel and lean out, or oil pressure will tank and kablamo!

I wonder what would happen if you apply the same rules for turbo and n/a. I mean, both get to start a few feet earlier and so on. Seems that the n/a cars are much faster anyways and don't need these advantages, or am I wrong here?

Im guessing since they tune so lean they know the engine will blow before the turbo sucks enough sand to trash it lol

Pucutun cCan't get 5+ liters out of a 1j or rb. These inline 6s are mostly tb48's, possibly stroked. As the saying goes, no replacement for displacement

Those n/a cars generally run far better than the turbo ones. Those big mud tyres are for,,,, mud.Not withstanding the rules I feel speedway/ drag tyres would be the go. Flotation on the sand instead if digging trenches. Those paddle tyres are those tyres, justwith paddles glued on. How do you rain out a sand event? Rain would settle thedust.

That's part of the competition: To use road tyres on the hill climb. Look at 03:05 it's very possible, but that's the challenge. I read this on the previous videos from someone who was there (possibly the uploader). Don't doubt that these guys (all of these guys) would build the highest performance hillclimbers and overlook the tyres completely, it's the condition to the competition.
