Sandstone Peak, also known as Mount Allen, is the tallest peak in California’s gorgeous Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu, and today, we're going help you check this must-do SoCal hike off your list. With panoramic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the Pacific Ocean and the Channel Islands, this trek along a portion of the Backbone Trail will last you about 3 miles round trip and about 1075 in elevation gain. The best time is always to go early since you are very likely to be alone if you do so. Just ask Magellan about that. There is little to no cell reception, so plan accordingly.
