All University professors teaching jobs are on the line. It's natural to feel threatened. Though much more research can be done by the universities.

Sanjeev could not articulate his solutions and thoughts well. He was talking about possibilities of radical educational reforms however learning is a multilevel process and for a student to turn an expert needs multiple layers of inputs and unlocking the potential of mind only happens through formal learning.

Dear Mr Sanyal you are the kind of young independent thought leadership we needed in Positions of Influence. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Reinventing how Education is delivered. Kindly continue to share with Universities across the Country. Proud of my Bharat and the Gr8 leadership and SMEs PM Modi are choosing and more importantly listening to.

What Sanjay is suggesting is that it is not necessary to memorize things as chatgpt or ai can easily provide you some facts and figures instantly. What he is suggesting is hands on work experience, industry exposure and experimentation. Love this idea and most of the IB schools follow this already even in primary and secondary education levels. Most of the global business schools adopt this way of teaching. I have been to IIIT and also a American Business school and I can clearly see the difference. And about last girls question about teachers loosing jobs because people stop attending classes- no teachers won't loose Jobs. Instead of teaching 8hrs a day, they will be teaching couple of hours offline and rest of the time they should he creating content and teaching online. But the biggest risk in this method of learning is to be self motivated as there wont be much supervision nor scrutiny.

Very well said Mr. Sanyal ... the sponsors of this event forced to wrap up fearing people may get educated in right way ... the lower cost of quality education is the only key to success for us ... as in other countries education got industrialized and expensive there is a huge debt problem and skill shortage ... real experience is learnt on field, so apprenticeship should be encouraged ...

I remember a wonderful session of debate between Mr Sanyal and Sadhguru a long time ago. I've since watched Sadhguru sit with abject hooligans and make the time uplifting and worth my while. It's a joy to see Mr Sanyal do the same. I learned plenty even as this imbecile tried to dismiss online learning when MIT OpenCourseware is a decade old for goodness sake. It makes me proud to see Mr Sanyal stand up to these cowards who would feed their students mud to save their own skin for a few years..and I say that as a fellow teacher from across the ocean.

Higher education needs to be disrupted - this is the most exciting point. Also, research needs to be improved and expanded is right on the mark. But where are world class research universities that can play a role that Stanford played for Silicon Valley? Btw, online lectures need to be paired with teacher led discussion, hands on labs, and so on?

Stanford was financed by the fiat dollar and India can't finance research like the western countries... As most of the west and American allies are financed by credits from the Federal Reserve.

No wonder Kerala is in debt trap. My question is why so late. To lay a one-mile road costs one crore rupees. ISI kidnaps girls and convert them to Islam in Afghanistan and bring them back to Kerala and release. ISI has a big organization in Kerala, and naturally Kerala government in not aware of such things. No problem, the girls lift their shirt and show the ISI stamp without asking for. It is kind of "Hamas" in Kerala to help the State with loans.

No complaints. I have been explaining how to educate 1.4 billion people at very little cost. I am glad that Mr. Sanyal (advisor to Modi Ji) has the same solution. KZfaq, 6G, inexpensive I phone, and a carry-on computer to all. Buy the best lecture materials from MIT etc. colleges. All teaching material on KZfaq is free in India. Set exams are passed by students at selected locations. Those who pass get Certification from the Government. Government can save a lot of money.

Further to what Sanjeev said, students should be allowed to take the class 10 and 12 board exam without registering with a school. Studying in a school should be made optional not mandatory. This will bring down cost of education in class 10 & 12. Also class 10 and 12 board exam should be conducted 2 times a year.
@chka3440

Kids can do that under NIOS with simple registration and nominal fee. The good part under NIOS is there are on demand exams too which means the exam will be conducted once the kid feels confident about it.

15 minutes into it... I am already irritated by that questioner. This guy is only interested in one-upping. You bring in a brilliant guy like Sanjeev Sanyal so that young listeners can get the benefits of his wisdom, this questioner gets an ego surge and tries to prove his "knowledge." This is the problem in academia. Lot of these academics or intellectuals have no wisdom but are full of false ego.

Sanjeev Sanyal’s ideas are provocative and radical but unfortunately it doesn’t consider the phenomena of campus life like in IITs which creates a lifetime of experience through only 4-5 years of campus life. Definitely there can be alternative to classrooms to extend the benefits of education but not sure campus life can be totally eliminated.

Education, both school and university are so expensive that it is not worth the time. These greedy institutions are just taking the piss.. at the end of the day, you gain no additional skill that is job worthy nor that is experiential that will land you a job. People train themselves on the job or by getting into vocational professions and end up building a career. But universities take all the credit for the success. Getting a degree from a reputable institution is like joining an elite club or cartel, if you don't have one you are frowned upon as not being good enough...but Bill Gates and Richard Branson didn't have one... Mark Twain once sad: "I will never let my Schooling interfere with my education " -Jai Hind.

Job guarantee is a tricky thing to promise. Ideally it is up to the employer to decide who they should hire. We can utmost provide more job opportunities. That is all. There are no guarantees in life. They should not be one for employment as well.

It is bad to say, but it is true that Independence of India ruined Bengal as the anti-Bengalis took over India after 1947. Hindu majority areas like Jessore, Khulna, Barisal and Buddhist majority area Chittagong Hill Districts went inside East Pakistan, but Gandhi-Nehru-Patel never objected. Nehru made a treaty with Liaqat Ali to expel the Hindu Bengali refugees from India and stopped their stipends. Nehru declared West Bengal a developed state and refused to allow any central industrial projects for West Bengal. Durgapur steel plant came in exchange for Dhanbad coal fields. Morarji Desai refused to give any contracts for the large private sector industries in West Bengal. He asked all banks and foreign companies to shift their head offices from West Bengal to Bombay area. YB Chavan removed all defense related industries from West Bengal to his home state. Krishnamacharya equalized the freight rates for all industrial inputs all over India thus destroying all natural advantages of all Eastern states. Bhutalingam removed all railway related industries to South India. Kumarmagalam removed a part of the Durgapur Steel plant to Tamil Nadu. Maran closed down Dunlop in West Bengal but kept it alive in Tamil Nadu with government subsidies. CPIM and TMC also destroyed West Bengal with great violence so that most private sector industries went away. The leaders of CPIM are also anti-Bengali, as none of their buildings are named after any Bengali Communist leaders. TMC is all for the Muslim illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

I have question for Sanjeev and that is why India is not aggressively pursuing quantum computer and Artificial intelligence at the level it. Should. India should make it number one priority to invest billions of dollar for research in both those sectors, know that who ever achieve supremacy in these two area will be the ultimate global leaders of the world. We should at lease be in par with China or better. Why is that not the case. I would like to hear that India has invested $10 billion dollars in each of these areas and unleash IIT's behind these and put this technologies on a fast track.

In order for India to make meaningful contributions in the cutting edge technologies, India needs to have a strong academic and private industry and private capital to allow for these types of tech buildup to take root a grow. Without it, if Indian government just throws some money into trying to develop such technologies without the foundation built up, the money will just go wasted in completely non productive directions without any checks and balances or feedback mechanisms to help guide the growth of the technology. For example, quantum computing and AI were theorised by academia, but it only grew meaningfully when private capital with focus of market needs pumped all their resources in developing these technologies. Keep in mind that without profit, such tech developments will be unsustainable. India needs to focus on developing a robust industry base that can allow the next Google, Microsoft and Apple to take birth - not just academic funding, and the cutting edge technologies will follow automatically. And this requires that the public and media stops demonising industrialists and businesses, and start taking pride in our private job creators.

Fdi Investment is lowest in 16 years and slowing growth will follow. India got record fdi in 2o20/22 but that fdi went into it services. Now that pandemic it investment is done and cant keep thinkjng this pattern will continue. Right now unemployment is very high. Even IT hiring is barely happening. This gdp growth is coming from govt capex investment which is good and needs to continue. Things are dynamic and fluid, cant say 7% is given. As manufacturing fdi is barely coming. Indias manufacturing has decreased to 16% of gdp. Gdp will slow as fdi is decreasing dramatically🤘

Nobody expected global IT spending to shoot up. It was one time Pandemic event. India recieved the highest FDI in IT bcoz it has the talent at the best rate. Every prediction doesnt come true bcoz things like pandemic events can happen. But Manufacturing FDI is moving to Vietnam and Mexico and not coming to India. Thats reality and unlikely to change as India has no Free Trade agrrements with US, EU, UK , China , Asean. Other countries have it and supply chain is moving there. @@chka3440
